Xiyagou

Xiyagou Scenic Area is located in a deep valley with a drop of more than 1000 meters around the southern end of Wangmangling Scenic Area, where the Xiyagou cliffside road is known as a world wonder. The area is characterized by steep mountains, deep ravines, and treacherous terrain, with cliffs surrounding it. Due to the natural barriers, the two hundred households in the valley have been almost completely isolated from the world, self-sustaining for thousands of years. In 1962, the people of the valley, unwilling to remain cut off, declared war on the mountains. After thirty years, two generations carved out a 7.5-kilometer-long cliffside road on the western cliffs of the village, creating a miracle in the history of rural road construction in China. The true essence of Chairman Mao Zedong's famous sayings 'The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountains' and 'Man Must Conquer Nature' is truly embodied here. This place has become a source of inspiration and sublimation for the spirit of hard work, struggle, and enterprising. It has been designated as a moral education base in Shanxi Province. The isolation of the mountains has also created a paradise on earth. In this area, the valley floor has crisscrossing paths, flowing bridges and streams, green fields, simple folk customs, and beautiful natural scenery. In the village, there is a large canyon running from north to south, vertically dividing it. The canyon is deep and long, with cliffs like screens and sandstone like vermilion. A clear spring flows down from the walls, with the sound of waves like thunder, cold air pressing down, and misty clouds, making it a spectacular sight.
