Hongyadong commercial street is located on Cangbai Road of Yuzhong District, Chongqing City. It is at the intersection where the Yangtze River and the Jialing River meet. Most of its buildings are “Diaojialou” style, which reflects traditional architectural features of Bayu. It is a great place to go if you want to check out the old streets of Chongqing, appreciate the two rivers, or try local cuisines. At the same time, it is home to a bustling night scene, making it a fascinating attraction for photographers.China · Chongqing

WenShuFang is an antique-style cultural block in Qingyang District, Chengdu, adjacent to Wenshu Monastery. Opened in 2006, the Wenshu Monastery area, where it is located, is one of Chengdu's three major historical and cultural conservation zones, alongside Kuanzhai Alley and Daci Temple. The block primarily features architecture in the traditional Sichuanese residential style, with teahouses, snack shops, intangible cultural heritage workshops, and Hanfu stores nestled among gray-tiled roofs, wooden doors, and courtyards. It is also a popular spot for locals to drink tea and chat. The main streets in the district each have their own distinctive features: Wuyuegong Street is dedicated to intangible cultural heritage, with workshops showcasing traditional crafts like Shu brocade, Shu embroidery, lacquerware, bamboo weaving, and silver filigree, where artisans can often be seen working on-site; Nanyue Lane is a hub for Hanfu culture, with a constant stream of people dressed in Hanfu taking photos against the backdrop of ancient-style gate towers and red walls, and the street also offers Hanfu rental and makeup services; Jinma Lane is the heart of old Chengdu flavors, where time-honored snacks like imperial walnut cakes and Zhang Liangfen from Dongzikou can be enjoyed from one end of the street to the other. When you need a break, you can stop at a teahouse for a bowl of covered-bowl tea. The district also hosts Sichuan opera performances, where you can enjoy face-changing, fire-spitting, and long-spout tea art while sipping tea, fully immersing yourself in Chengdu's unique blend of leisure and liveliness. When touring, you might as well combine this place with the nearby Wenshu Monastery into one route, visiting the ancient temple first and then exploring the alleys, which can be completed in half a day. Travelers planning to take Hanfu photos are advised to allocate more time for makeup, styling, and framing.Chengdu · 75.6km from Renshou

Chengdu Museum is located on the west side of the city center, covering an area of approx. 17 acres with a total floor space of approx. 65,000m² and exhibition space of approx. 20,000m². The main building consists of south and north wings: the south wing's above-ground floors primarily house offices and research areas, while the basement level contains an auditorium (multi-function hall). The north wing mainly features exhibition areas, with the ground floor housing the lobby, screening room, and special exhibition hall. The basement level presents the "Man and Nature" thematic exhibition. Floors 2–3 showcase "Flourishing Chengdu - Ancient History and Culture of Chengdu," floor 4 displays modern history and folk customs, and floor 5 features the Chinese Shadow Puppetry and Marionette Exhibition. The museum boasts a collection of nearly 200,000 artifacts, forming a comprehensive chronological sequence from the Neolithic Age to the Republic of China period. The collection encompasses bronze ware, gold and silver artifacts, brick carvings, stone sculptures, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, furniture, shadow puppets, marionettes, ritual paintings, masks, wood carvings, and more—establishing both quantitative significance and qualitative excellence within a systematic framework. Since its opening, the museum has hosted a series of highly acclaimed special exhibitions, including "The Restless Nostalgia: Zhang Daqian," "The Splendid Emperor: A Special Exhibition of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty," "The Soul of the Silk Road: Dunhuang Art Exhibition & Cultural Relics of the Land of Abundance and the Silk Road," "Summer Palace of the Empire: Treasures from the Peterhof State Museum, Russia," "French Modern and Contemporary Painting Art Exhibition & 'Portrait·Metamorphosis' Photography Exhibition," "Echoes of Civilization: Ancient Treasures from Afghanistan," and "The Road of Qin and Shu: Bronze Civilization Special Exhibition."Chengdu · 73.9km from Renshou

Wenshu monastery is located in Qingyang district. Originally built during the Sui dynasty and rebuilt during the Kangxi reign, it was renamed Wenshu monastery. The monastery houses over 300 Buddhist statues of various sizes, crafted from diverse materials including iron, gauze-covered clay, wood, stone, and clay. Among them is a precious jade Buddha statue from Myanmar. The temple complex features five grand halls - the Hall of the Three Great Scholars, the Mahavira Hall, the Dharma Hall, and the Scripture Depository - connected in sequence, seamlessly integrated with the bell tower, dining hall, and corridor houses on the east and west sides. Combined with other structures, they form an enclosed quadrangle courtyard. The compound also houses a teahouse and a distinctive vegetarian restaurant called "Xiangzhai Hall," making it a beloved leisure spot for local residents. In addition, the monastery houses numerous precious paintings and calligraphic works from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The most renowned include the "Konglin" plaque bestowed upon Wenshu Monastery by Emperor Kangxi in 1702, as well as Kangxi's transcription of the Song Dynasty calligrapher Mi Fu's "Sea Moon" scroll. Other Buddhist artifacts include the parietal bone of Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang, Indian palm-leaf manuscripts, and gilded sutra cases from Tang Dynasty Japan. However, as these are precious cultural relics, they are rarely seen by outsiders. The street in front of Wenshu Monastery, now developed as Wenshu Fang known as the "urban zen forest," features uniformly designed antique-style buildings where many snack stalls continue to operate.Chengdu · 75.8km from Renshou

The Sichuan Museum is located in the Chengdu Huanhuaxi historical and cultural scenic area. Relocated to its current site in 2009, it covers an area of 80 mu and is a national first-class museum integrating collection, research, conservation, exhibition, and education. The museum boasts a rich collection of cultural relics, with particular strengths in bronze ware, calligraphy and painting, stone carving, ceramics, ethnic folk artifacts, and revolutionary relics. Additionally, museum education provides the public with a resource and channel for lifelong learning. The museum pioneered the establishment of a museum education research institute, a mobile museum, and a home-school-museum alliance in China, creating a new model for cultural and educational collaboration. Over the years, it has developed over 200 research courses, launched more than 20 themed routes, and trained 916 "junior on-site guides." The Sichuan Museum is divided into three floors. The first floor is a temporary exhibition hall that hosts various thematic exhibitions year-round, with themes and contents changing periodically. We recommend you follow the official WeChat account for exhibition updates. The second floor is the core area for understanding Sichuan's ancient history, featuring an educational interactive space. It primarily focuses on bronzeware, pottery and porcelain, as well as pictorial bricks and stone carvings. "Ancient Sichuan - The prehistoric period" exhibition outlines the reproduction, cultural integration of ancient humans in the Sichuan Basin and showcases the formation process of early civilization in the region through over 340 cultural relics. "Ancient Sichuan - The pre-Qin period" exhibition presents the epic development history of the ancient Ba and Shu regions through 200 precious artifacts, combined with historical documents and recent archaeological findings, recreating the splendor of Ba-Shu civilization over two thousand years ago. The third floor is the special exhibition and experience area, which also continues the general history exhibition from the second floor, presenting the complete ancient history of Sichuan. We recommend learning about the specific content of the special thematic exhibitions on-site. Meanwhile, you can purchase unique cultural and creative products in the cultural and creative experience area and experience cultural creativity. It also features a space for museum volunteer-related activities.Chengdu · 74.6km from Renshou

Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street

5.6k reviews
Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the long-established core commercial district in Chongqing, located on the Yuzhong Peninsula. Centered around the Monument to the People's Liberation at its heart, it extends along several streets including Minquan Road, Minzu Road, Zourong Road, and Bayi Road. The monument is an octagonal tower-shaped structure, originally built to commemorate the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and later renamed the Monument to the People's Liberation. Its four-sided clock at the top makes it a highly recognizable landmark in Chongqing, and most travelers visiting here take photos in front of it. Shopping and food are the two main themes of the pedestrian street: the area around the monument is densely packed with shopping malls and traditional department stores. When tired from shopping, visitors can turn into Bayi Road Snack Street, where sour and spicy noodles, small glutinous rice balls, and wontons line the street, allowing them to sample all of Chongqing's snacks while strolling. Hidden around the commercial district are Luohan Temple and Nengren Temple on Zhonghua Road, two ancient temples nestled among skyscrapers, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city. At night, the pedestrian street takes on a different vibe: building screens and neon lights illuminate the area, and the square in front of the monument becomes a popular spot for night photography. Every New Year's Eve, many locals gather under the monument to listen to the New Year's bell and count down together—a tradition that has continued for years. The crowd is enormous that night, so those wishing to experience the atmosphere should plan ahead. A short 15-minute walk from the monument leads to Hongya Cave, making it ideal to combine both locations into a nightlife route.China · Chongqing

Kuanzhai Alley

13.7k reviews
Kuanzhai Alley is a well-preserved ancient block from the Qing Dynasty in Chengdu. Originally part of the old Manchu city where Eight Banner soldiers and their families lived, it now consists of three parallel old streets—Kuan Alley, Zhai Alley, and Jing Alley—along with their courtyard houses. With gray brick walls and varied gate designs, the area blends the charm of Sichuanese residential courtyards with the layout of northern hutongs. Each alley has its own character: Kuan Alley embodies "leisurely living," with old teahouses, hotpot restaurants, and private Sichuan cuisine spots tucked away in courtyards; Zhai Alley represents "slow living," featuring cafes and bookshops converted from traditional houses; Jing Alley focuses on "new living," with relatively fewer crowds. A several-hundred-meter-long brick cultural wall, pieced together with old bricks and historical photos, showcases Chengdu's street memories and is worth a closer look. Teahouse lounging is a classic pastime here—order a cup of Mengshan yellow bud tea and listen to the elderly at the next table spinning yarns from their bamboo chairs. You can also request an ear cleaning from a "comfort ear practitioner," whose gentle techniques bring tingling relaxation, making it a must-try for many travelers. For photos, don't miss the arched gateway of "Kailu" at No. 11 Wide Alley, one of the most distinctive courtyard entrances in the area. When lanterns light up at night, bars and snack stalls buzz with energy, creating a vibrant contrast to the daytime leisure—another flavor of Chengdu to savor.Chengdu · 74.7km from Renshou

The ancient town of Huanglongxi is located roughly 40 kilometers from Chengdu and boasts a history of over 1700 years. There are cobbled streets from the Ming and Qing dynasties, along with ancient memorial archways, temples, buildings and houses. A traditional festival is called the Fire Dragon Festival. The event is so well known that Huanglongxi is nicknamed the "the village of the Chinese fire dragon". The village is used as a set for films today, including films like Hibiscus Town (Fu rong zhen). The local snacks of Huanglongxi are also well-known. One-strand noodle, crispy pork legs, pearl tofu pudding and braised yellow catfish are all worth a taste!Chengdu · 39.2km from Renshou

I have always heard about this reservoir and thought that it was only for the farmhouses next to the reservoir. It turned out to be a place for hiking and swimming. You can drive to the entrance of the scenic area, and there are many restaurants that can park for 20 yuan. There are fried small fish on the roadside (20.30 yuan, taste good but a little fishy), and smoked fish (100 yuan per catty, I didn’t buy it because I thought it was too expensive) If you want to go to the mountain, you need to take a boat (you can only go there by boat)! We went during the Chinese New Year. There were no big boats, only small boats pulled by manpower, and the round trip was 20 yuan per person. There were really a lot of people and we lined up for more than an hour. When you get to the island opposite, there will be people soliciting customers. You can choose to walk, motorcycle, or wild boar. Because we went up late, we took a wild boar (the van was really scary when I think about it now) and went directly to the temple on the top of the mountain for 60 yuan. There were only two of us at the time, so it would be cheaper if we could share with others. There is a white pagoda on the top of the mountain, and there is also a temple where you can burn incense. Baoen Temple is on the mountainside, and we met a driver halfway who took us there for 20 yuan. Inside Baoen Temple is the God of Wealth Temple. Going further inside, you can ask for divination. Asking for divination is to rejoice in the merits, and then take your number to the circulation office to exchange for divination paper (2 yuan per piece). The master said that there are no monkeys to see on this mountain. It costs 80 yuan per person to see the monkey island, and a private boat will take you there. In the end, we didn't go, but I heard that the monkeys there like to eat jelly. If you go, you can prepare in advance. Overall, it's good, climb the mountain, blow the wind, and burn incense. It's suitable for family to go together.

The Two Rivers Ferry is absolutely fantastic! The 15 yuan ticket is incredibly cost-effective! Here's a great route for families with kids: After visiting Jiefangbei and Kuixinglou, see Hongyadong during the day. If you're traveling with a 6-year-old and don't want to brave the crowds at Hongyadong at night, the stilted buildings during the day are just as beautiful. Afterward, take the Two Rivers Ferry to Danzishi, disembark, and explore Danzishi Old Street, Nanbin Road, and Xiahaoli. Then, take the light rail/bus or taxi back. The whole route is smooth and relaxing. The boat ride is novel and fun, and the kids especially loved it, remaining enthusiastic about exploring the shopping streets afterwards. At the pier, there's a large bowl of freshly cut watermelon for 10 yuan – watch it being cut right in front of you! It's sweet and refreshing. I highly recommend this route for families!

Wenshu Fang, nestled against the ancient Wenshu Monastery, exudes the rustic charm of western Sichuan folk customs amidst its blue bricks and gray tiles. I strolled leisurely here with my dog, wandering through bamboo paths and red-walled, green corridors; even he couldn't resist frolicking on the stone slabs. There's none of the hustle and bustle of trendy shops, only the jasmine fragrance wafting from teahouses and the gentle sounds of artisans hammering bamboo – the atmosphere is simply divine! Wenshu Fang is a hidden gem of a Chengdu food map! Just step outside and you can enjoy authentic "Dongzikou Zhang Lao Er" sweet water noodles, their sour, spicy, and savory flavors instantly awakening your taste buds. I squatted by the window and ordered a spicy hot pot for my dog, and he quietly devoured half the bowl! There's also freshly ground soy milk and ice jelly on the street corner; even my dog couldn't resist licking the soy pulp clean from the rim of the bowl! Wenshu Fang is incredibly pet-friendly! I took photos with my dog in front of the "Wenshu Fang" cultural and creative shop; he posed on the bluestone slabs against the backdrop of the ancient buildings with their upturned eaves – every snapshot looked like a masterpiece of traditional Chinese style. The shop also thoughtfully provided a water station for pets, so you don't have to worry about your pet getting thirsty.

🏛️ Chengdu Museum — A Wonderful Glimpse into Chengdu’s History & CultureA really interesting place to visit while in Chengdu, especially if you want to understand more about the city beyond its famous pandas and food. 😊The museum has a great collection showcasing Chengdu’s long history, culture, traditions and development. I especially enjoyed seeing the historical artefacts and learning about how Chengdu has changed through the centuries. The exhibits are well presented and the museum is spacious, clean and easy to explore. Even though I’m not usually someone who spends a lot of time in museums, I found this visit surprisingly enjoyable and informative. It’s also a nice place to escape the heat or rain for a while and take a slower, more relaxing break from sightseeing.Definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in history and culture. A good way to appreciate the story behind this fascinating city. ❤️You can drop by if you are planning to go to Tianfu Square area or Huang Cheng mosque area as this place is only in a blink away😊

We were very fortunate to have celebrity teacher Du Gang as our guide, and we avoided the peak admission period, so it wasn't crowded at all. Without a teacher's explanation, it's easy to miss the main points and rush through the exhibits. Teacher Du's explanation was very easy to understand, humorous, and focused. There were so many exhibits that we felt like we didn't have enough time. I hope to have the opportunity to hear Teacher Du's explanation again after the Sichuan Museum finishes setting up the exhibits from the Song Dynasty onwards.

My stay in Chongqing was fantastic! The hotel boasts a superb location, within walking distance of Eling No. 2 Factory and Liziba Viewpoint, making sightseeing incredibly convenient. The rooms were spotless and bright, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and the amenities were complete. The free parking was a great convenience for travelers with cars. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in quick and easy, and patiently answering all my questions. Overall, it offered excellent value for money and is a top choice for any trip. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time.

Perfect for a leisurely stroll, sampling street snacks, and experiencing Chengdu’s culture. We bought some of the tea pastry and tea leaves and shop for some panda souvenirs there. We have our lunch in one of the Sichuan cuisine restaurant in the narrow alley which the food is pretty good. There is a cat souvenir shop named Mao Mao Yao which sells lovely handmade ceramic cat product. We bought some fridge magnets before going back to our hotel.

I'd been there before and had a great impression. This time, on my second day in Chengdu, I chose Huanglongxi Ancient Town. Previously, I'd taken a bus from the Xin Nanmen Bus Station, but when I got there, they said the bus service had been cancelled. Not wanting to take the subway and transfer, I called a ride-hailing service. We encountered road construction and were stuck in traffic for almost an hour before finally being driven directly to the entrance of the ancient town. The fare was about 60-70 yuan. The ancient town wasn't as lively as before, and there weren't many tourists. After wandering around for a while, I felt it wasn't very interesting. I found a teahouse and had some very pleasant tea. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, and the sunlight filtering through the leaves occasionally felt nice on my face. I checked the transportation back; it was either a long walk to the bus station to take a bus to the nearest subway station, Huilong, or I had to call a taxi. I hadn't expected the transportation to be so inconvenient, so I decided to call a taxi directly to Chunxi Road for some delicious food.
