Bao'en Temple in Pingwu, fully named "The Imperially Built Bao'en Temple," was constructed starting in 1440 (the 5th year of the Ming Zhengtong era) and completed in 1460 (the 4th year of the Ming Tianshun era). Covering an area of 27,888 m² with a building area of 3,518 m², it follows the traditional "Seven-Hall" monastery layout and was built using official architectural techniques from the "Treatise on Architectural Methods." It is one of China's best-preserved ancient wooden architectural complexes from the Ming Dynasty, designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit, a AAAA-level tourist attraction, and a teaching and research base for Tsinghua University's School of Architecture. The temple's "six wonders"—the revolving sutra library, thousand-armed Guanyin, myriad dragons supporting the roof, intricate bracket sets and mortise-tenon joints, Ming Dynasty murals, and exclusive use of nanmu wood—hold immense historical, artistic, scientific, and cultural value. They provide significant insights for modern archaeology, research, and the promotion of traditional virtues and gratitude.Pingwu · 2.2km from downtown

Jiuhuangshan is located on the way to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu. This area is home to the Qiang minority group and has many distinctive socio-cultural features which tourists may find interesting. While there, it is imperative to visit the old fort that would have housed residents during past times of turmoil and warfare. To the rear of the village, you will find the splendid Temple of Heaven with its Thousand Buddha Corridor and Hall of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. There is also a Qiang minority cultural exhibition and exciting animal performances. Dotted throughout the scenic area are numerous lovely and unique mountain caves. Among these, the most famous is perhaps the Yuanwang (King of the Apes) Cave. With its colorfully lit up stalactites and stalagmites, the cave is a paradise for photography lovers. Couples traveling together can walk hand-in-hand on a romantic stroll across the Lover's Bridge. Suspended on the gently swaying cable bridge, it is as if you are walking among the clouds.Beichuan · 41.1km from downtown

Shengshui Temple

4.1/5
35 reviews
Shengshui Temple is a thousand-year-old temple located on the right bank of the Fu River in Mianyang, at the southern foot of Tazi Mountain. It was founded during the Tang Dynasty and was named after the "Shengshui" (Holy Water), a clear spring behind the temple that never dries up, during the Zhengtong reign of the Ming Dynasty. The original site of the ancient temple is right under the cliff behind the current Guanyin Hall. On the cliff, there is an ancient cliff inscription titled "Shengshui Longqiu Ji" (Record of the Shengshui Dragon Pool). The "Longqiu" (Dragon Pool) spring under the cliff remains full all year round and was considered a sweet spring in the past. Beside it, there is a Qing Dynasty red sandstone statue of the Rain-Walking Dragon King, making the origin of the temple's name clear at a glance. Most of the existing halls were rebuilt starting in the 1980s: the Heavenly King Hall, Guanyin Hall, Great Compassion Hall, Mahavira Hall, and Sutra Library ascend the mountain along the central axis, while the Jade Buddha Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, and Bell and Drum Towers are arranged on both sides, creating a layered and majestic monastic atmosphere. There are many highlights inside the halls. The Vairocana Guanyin statue in the Guanyin Hall is solemn and exquisite. The four-sided Thousand-Hand Guanyin in the Great Compassion Hall has distinct expressions and gestures. On both sides of the Mahavira Hall stand steles of the "Diamond Sutra." The Burmese jade Buddha in the Jade Buddha Hall was donated by overseas Chinese; it has a warm jade texture and a serene expression. Especially worth stopping for is the "Jixiang Gate" (Auspicious Gate) sculpture art corridor. You can reach it shortly after walking up the steps from the mountain gate. This corridor, which took over ten years to build, stretches for about 200m along the mountain. It uses imagery such as dragons, auspicious clouds, peonies, and fruits to convey auspicious meanings, and uses groups of sculptures to recreate the Eastern Glazed World and the Pure Land. Groups of Arhat statues and nine dragons spitting water are dotted throughout, making it a popular spot for tourists to come specifically for photos. Not far in front of the temple, a railway passes by, and the scene of trains passing by the foot of the mountain is quite unique. The temple is always bustling with incense offerings, and Buddhist ceremonies are often held during Buddhist festivals. The adjacent Luohan Temple is connected to it, so you can visit both at the same time.Mianyang · 5.6km from downtown

It was so much fun! We specifically chose to come after the National Day holiday, and there weren't many people at all. We could enjoy all the rides without any queues, it was so relaxing! Traveling during off-peak seasons is really cost-effective. Many rides could be played repeatedly since there were practically no people around, hahaha!

The entire scenic area isn't very large; you can take an elevator to the 14th floor. The 4D cinema is a separate ticket and not worth seeing, but the night view is decent. The dance and folk music performances are quite professional.

Strolling through Li Bai's former residence in Qinglian Town, Jiangyou, one finds a tranquil and elegant Tang-style courtyard, with inscriptions of poems and prose visible everywhere. From Longxi Courtyard to Taibai Stele Forest, from Mozhen Creek to Taibai Tower, the footprints of the poet Li Bai and the cultural heritage of the Tang Dynasty are everywhere. Although many of these sites are reconstructions from later generations, they retain a rich cultural atmosphere, making them ideal for reminiscing about the past, seeking out poetry, and quietly experiencing Li Bai's romance and passion.

Kids love cave rafting. The first two people can wear raincoats. There are hair dryers to dry your hair after splashing some water. The cave is 6 kilometers long and requires physical strength to go up and down stairs, so it is not recommended for the elderly.

The main purpose of this trip to Mianyang was to see this well-preserved ancient architectural complex. Stepping into Bao'en Temple, I was immediately captivated; I couldn't look away. The dragon carvings, bracket sets, flying eaves, revolving sutra repository, and murals were all so beautiful. Unfortunately, there was no sun when I went, which was a great pity. If there had been sunshine, the murals would have been much clearer.

Avoid this place! I'll never come back! No wonder everyone advises against visiting such a famous mountain! The cable car only takes you up to one-third of the way. For the rest of the way, you either have to climb or take various rides like slides, gondolas, and speedboats. Even when you finally see a sightseeing bus, it's a one-way street that only takes you downhill, not uphill. All shortcuts are closed, forcing you to take detours. I understand the scenic area wants to make money, but expecting 400-500 yuan just to go up a mountain is excessive! Avoid this place! I'll never come back!

The hotel is very close to the Xiqiang Hotel, making it convenient to go up the mountain; the owner even provides pick-up and drop-off service. The environment is clean and tidy, and you can eat at the hotel. The owner is warm and hospitable, with an exceptionally good attitude; you'll feel right at home. Highly recommended.

The scenery was beautiful, and there weren't too many people during the National Day holiday. The wait for the bus was about 20 minutes. The main attractions are Ganhaizi and Baishagou, which take about 4-5 hours to walk. It's best to bring your own instant noodles. The supply points offer free hot water and grilled sausages for 10 yuan each, which isn't expensive. It rained on the return trip, and they provided free raincoats. The volunteer service was excellent; a sincere thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻
