Here is a travel guide to Potatso National Park: About the Park Potatso National Park is located in the center of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northwest Yunnan. The park is made up of the Bita Lake Nature Reserve and Shudu Lake Scenic Area, and is located at an altitude of 3,500–4,159 m. The park is home to a variety of natural landscapes, including geological landforms, lakes, and wetlands, and its original ecological environment is well preserved. Best Time to Visit The best time to visit is in spring and autumn. In spring (April–May), you can see flowers in full bloom, and in autumn (September–October), you can see the colorful fall foliage. The weather is also more pleasant during these seasons. Ticket Information Tickets are priced at CNY 138, which includes an admission ticket (CNY 68 per person) and a shuttle bus ticket (CNY 70 per person). Discounts Half-price tickets are available for minors aged 6 (not including 6) to 18 (including 18), full-time undergraduate students and below with valid ID, and seniors aged 60 (including 60) to 70 (not including 70). Free tickets are available for children aged 6 (including 6) or under 1.2 m (including 1.2 m) and seniors aged 70 (including 70) and above. Tour Routes • Regular Sightseeing Route: Take the shuttle bus to Shudu Lake, the first stop. You can walk along the 3.3 km boardwalk to enjoy the lake and mountain views, or take a boat tour. Then, head to Bita Lake and walk along the boardwalk to enjoy the wetland and grassland scenery. • Hiking Route: Take the shuttle bus from the park entrance to the Tranquil Trail entrance, 5 km away. Hike the 2.2 km Tranquil Trail, then take the shuttle bus to the Shudu Lake boardwalk entrance and continue your tour. Transportation • Self-Drive: Drive from Shangri-La City, 22 km away. The drive takes about 30 minutes. • Shuttle Bus: You can buy park tickets, shuttle bus tickets, and Old Town bus tickets at the Potatso National Park Dukezong Ancient Town Ticket Office, and take the shuttle bus to the park. • Coach: Take a coach from Shangri-La City Coach Station to Potatso National Park. Accommodation You can stay in Shangri-La City or at the Diqing Shangri-La Shudu Zenlin Resort Hotel in the park. Dining There are few dining options in the park and prices are high, so we recommend bringing your own snacks and water. Reminders The park is located at a high altitude. To prevent altitude sickness, we recommend bringing altitude sickness medication and avoiding strenuous exercise. The weather in the mountains is changeable, so bring warm clothes and rain gear.
