Cycling allows you to explore the grasslands, forests, and lakes. So cycling in Shangri-La is truly a different way to experience this paradise on earth. 📅Best time to cycle Spring (April–June): Wildflowers are in full bloom, and the weather is warm and pleasant, making it perfect for enjoying the beauty of the plateau grasslands. Autumn (September–October): There are more sunny days, and the scenery is stunning with colorful foliage. ⚠️Note: Be cautious of slippery roads during the rainy season (July–August). Winter (November–March) is cold, so short rides are recommended. 🚴Cycling routes in Shangri-La: 1️⃣Napa Lake Yila Grassland Loop Distance: About 20 km Suitable for beginners. Cycling around the lake allows you to enjoy the seasonal wetland scenery of Napa Lake, with herds of cattle and sheep by the lake and the occasional sight of migratory birds in flight. 2️⃣Shangri-La Old Town to Songzanlin Monastery Distance: About 15 km Along the way, you can enjoy the cultural atmosphere of Tibetan villages and temples. The architecture of Songzanlin Monastery is magnificent, and it is an important sacred site of Tibetan Buddhism. ⚠️Note: The route mostly consists of asphalt roads with many uphill sections, suitable for cyclists with some physical strength. 3️⃣Pudacuo National Park Outer Loop Distance: About 40 km This route passes through plateau forests and lakes, suitable for intermediate and advanced cyclists, with picturesque scenery along the way. ⚠️Note: Some sections of the road are at high altitudes, so be mindful of cycling intensity and altitude sickness. 4️⃣Shangri-La to Meili Snow Mountain (Advanced Route) Distance: About 180 km (can be divided into sections) Route: Shangri-La → Baima Snow Mountain Pass → Feilai Temple → Meili Snow Mountain Suitable for experienced cyclists. You can challenge high-altitude mountain roads along the way, with breathtaking scenery. The endpoint, Feilai Temple, is the best place to view the sunrise over Meili Snow Mountain. ⚠️Note: This route requires advanced cycling skills and physical strength.
