At the tip of the peninsula known as 'the tears of the Greater Caucasus' lies the theological seminary 'Sevanavank Monastery', also referred to as the 'Black Monastery' in Navank

Measuring the 'forgotten back garden of God' with my steps, I reach the 37th station of the Caucasus 🚞 and the 44th country 🇦🇲 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐚☆ Armenia ▶️ In the eastern part of Armenia, there is a place known as 'the tears of the Greater Caucasus', 'the pearl of the Caucasus', and 'the mirror of the Caucasus'. This place is the magnificent 'Lake Sevan'. The lake is not only the largest high-altitude lake in the Greater Caucasus region but also a source of pride and a symbol for the Armenian people. Surrounding Lake Sevan are several ancient churches, the most famous of which is the Sevanavank Monastery, built in the 9th century AD. In ancient languages, 'Sevan' means 'black', hence the monastery is also known as the 'Black Monastery' (constructed with black stone materials). Ascending to the Sevanavank Monastery, one can overlook the changing colors of Lake Sevan's waters, from dazzling blue to deep blue. It is impossible to define its blue precisely because it is so clear and pure that it defies description.
