A guide to a spontaneous family trip to Nan'ao Island and Shantou.

Before departure: 🧑🏻: How about we go to Shantou and Nan'ao Island tomorrow? 👩🏻: Are you serious? We haven't even planned the route yet. 😂 🧑🏻: Let's just go with the flow! We'll leave tomorrow morning! 👩🏻: Okay, let's do it! Haha. 👶🏻: The kid was so excited about the trip that he couldn't sleep at night, but he fell asleep as soon as we got in the car and slept all the way there (he was full of energy as soon as we arrived at the destination, haha). We drove from Guangzhou to Shantou and Nan'ao Island for a 3-day, 2-night trip, which took more than 6 hours. We didn't do much research before the trip, and we searched for places to visit on the way and adjusted our itinerary as we went. When traveling with kids, the key is to be "casual and comfortable"! There's no need to plan everything perfectly. Just go with the flow and enjoy the moment. Travel tips ⭐ Nan'ao Island: 1. Toll for self-driving: The toll for the Nan'ao Island Bridge is CNY 96 for a one-way trip and CNY 192 for a round trip. 2. Accommodation options: • If you want to watch the sunset and try various foods, we recommend staying in Houzhai Town, where there are many popular restaurants on the nearby streets, making it very convenient to eat and drink. • If you want to watch the sunrise, you can choose to stay in Qing'ao Bay. 3. Transportation & parking: • Parking at scenic spots costs CNY 10 per hour. We recommend parking in designated areas, or you may get a parking ticket. • Renting an electric bike: There are electric bike rental shops everywhere. Prices are negotiable during the off-season, and CNY 50 per day is common. Note: Nan'ao Island is very large. Locals say it takes about 3 to 4 hours to tour the entire island by electric bike. Therefore, we recommend a combination of "electric bike + self-driving" to experience the island. You can use an electric bike for short distances and drive for longer distances. • Our itinerary: We used an electric bike to explore the area around our accommodation, and after checking out, we drove around the island, following the coastline all the way out of Nan'ao Island and heading straight to Shantou. ⭐ Shantou: Although we didn't stay long, the food experience is definitely not to be missed! 1. Accommodation options: We recommend staying around MixC or Longyan South Road, which are convenient for transportation and have many specialty foods. Especially around Longyan South Road, almost every restaurant is delicious, so you can't go wrong with any choice! Summary Traveling with kids can be tiring, but it's also full of joy. Experiencing the moment and different scenery with your child is the true meaning of travel!
