Liyang Museum

The architecture of Liyang Museum is very unique. It is said to be designed in the shape of the Jiao Wei Qin (a type of Chinese zither) made by Cai Yong in Liyang. The whole building looks like a huge zither placed on a mountain. The curved building looks unique on the green hillside. The museum is divided into three exhibition areas: "45 Million Years Ago: Eosimias Sinensis in the Middle Eocene," "Millennium Jinze: Liyang," and "Lai River Style and the Founding of the People's Republic of China." It has 5,077 pieces (sets) of various collections, including 4 pieces (sets) of first-class cultural relics, 25 pieces (sets) of second-class cultural relics, and 93 pieces (sets) of third-class cultural relics. The four national first-class cultural relics are a Neolithic stone adze with a handle, a Neolithic jade gui (a type of ritual object), a Song Dynasty silver cup with a peony pattern, and a Southern Song Dynasty silver box with a plum blossom pattern. Upon entering the museum, you will see the Eosimias Sinensis that lived 45 million years ago. It is said to be the common ancestor of all higher primates, including humans. Walking through the steps of the museum, you will feel like you are in a fairy tale world created by Hayao Miyazaki. You can overlook the entire Yanhu Park from above. Liyang Museum is closed on Mondays and open for free from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on other days. On August 23, 2024, Liyang Museum was recognized as a national second-class museum.
