Shuidonggou is a Paleolithic cultural site excavated in China. It is known as "the birthplace of Chinese prehistoric archaeology" and "a historical witness of cultural exchanges between China and the West". It is a national key cultural relic protection unit, a national AAAAA-level tourist Attraction, and a national geological park. It is listed by the state as one of the 100 major sites under national cultural relic protection and one of the "100 archaeological discoveries of great significance to Chinese civilization". The Shuidonggou site records the historical witness of the reproduction and struggle of ancient humans with nature, and contains rich and precious prehistoric data. It shows people the survival picture of ancient humans 40,000 years ago. It is the Paleolithic site that has been officially excavated in the Yellow River region in China so far. In 1923, French paleontologists Teilhard and Sang Zhihua discovered a prehistoric cultural site here. Through excavation, a large number of stone tools and animal fossils were unearthed. Shuidonggou has therefore become the ancient human cultural site where the Paleolithic Age was discovered in China. Today, over the past 80 years, after six archaeological excavations, more than 30,000 stone tools and 67 ancient animal fossils have been unearthed in Shuidonggou. Shuidonggou is also a well-preserved military defense architecture in northern my country, including the ancient Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty, the Hengcheng Dabian, beacon towers, city barriers, forts, and caves for hiding soldiers. Shuidonggou is located on the southern edge of the Ordos plateau. The Yadan landform created by nature has experienced tens of millions of years of wind and sand erosion. There are more than 20 unique earth forest landscapes here, including the Devil City, Wotuo Ridge, Motian Cliff, Duanyun Valley, and Tamarix Valley.Lingwu · 23.1km from Yongning

Xixia Imperial Tombs, located in the western suburbs of YinchuanHelan MountainThe Western Xia Mausoleum served as the royal burial site of the Western Xia Dynasty, where several emperors were interred. Today, the entire mausoleum complex contains 9 imperial tombs and over 140 accompanying burial sites, making it one of the largest royal burial grounds in Chinese history by area. The tombs feature a unique inverted steamed-bun shape unlike any other Chinese mausoleums. Additionally, the attraction includes facilities such as the Western Xia Mausoleum Museum, Western Xia Mausoleum - Western Xia Historical Art Gallery, and Western Xia Stele Forest to help visitors understand the historical and cultural significance behind these tombs. The attraction currently has mausoleums No. 1, 2, and 3 open for visitors. Mausoleum No. 3 (the "Tai Mausoleum" of Li Yuanhao, founding emperor of the Western Xia Dynasty) is located relatively close to The Western Xia Mausoleum's Western Xia History Art Museum and Western Xia Stele Forest. The Western Xia Dynasty was established by the Tangut people, with distinct writing systems and customs different from the Han Chinese of the Central Plains. After the dynasty's fall, its cities and history mysteriously vanished into the Gobi Desert, becoming an enduring enigma until modern discoveries and interpretations. The Western Xia Mausoleum Museum houses a rich collection of artifacts from the dynasty, including many precious stone carvings with Tangut script and murals showcasing Western Xia artistic styles. The museum offers free guides that provide fascinating insights into the customs, culture, rise, and fall of this mysterious dynasty, enhancing visitors' experience when exploring the mausoleum. On July 11, 2025, the Western Xia Mausoleum was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List. You can visit the Haowang Mausoleum up close within the attraction. The massive inverted semicircular tomb stands on the wasteland, bringing centuries of history vividly before your eyes, while in the distance...Helan MountainThe rugged ravines of the mountain ridges evoke a profound sense of desolate grandeur and timeless vicissitude. The Western Xia Mausoleum Museum inside the attraction has been newly unveiled. The exhibits are divided into six sections: history of Western Xia, Western Xia culture, Western Xia religious art, Western Xia socio-economy, Western Xia Mausoleum, and preservation & inheritance. Nearly 5,000 artifacts are displayed, including thangka paintings, documents, clay sculptures, bronze and ironware, textiles, and porcelain. Many of these are exquisite cultural relics unearthed during recent archaeological research at the Western Xia Mausoleum.Yinchuan · 29.1km from Yongning

Sanguankou Ming Great Wall is the junction of Ningxia and Inner Mongolia Alxa Left Banner. The three passes are from east to west, with the first road card, the second road card and the three road cards, which are called three road cards by later generations. The mountains here are winding and winding, and the terrain is majestic and precipitous. A pass was built in the valley between the two mountains. Yinchuan is located in the northwest frontier of the motherland. The Mongolian Tatars and Oaras of the Ming Dynasty often entered the Chimukou of Helan Mountain from the Alxa Platform in Inner Mongolia, and drove directly to all parts of the plain. For the sake of border security, the rulers of the Ming Dynasty built the Great Wall (called the border wall in Ming Dynasty) to set up passes, making it one of the "four dangers" of ancient Yinchuan city defense. When the Great Wall was built, there was more sand and less soil here, so the soldiers cut through the cliffs and valleys to get loam soil in several places; and because there was no water, they built hundreds of water trucks to get water from Pingji Fort, which is more than 20 kilometers away from the pass, and mixed it with loam and gravel. Mixed and rammed together, it is very strong.Yongning · 38.1km from downtown

Huaxia Hetu Yinchuan Art Town is located on the west bank of the Yellow River, at No. 2 Yuyue South Street, Xingqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, with a total area of 18.8 square kilometers. It mainly consists of seven major parts: Yinchuan Contemporary Art Museum, Artist Village, Fish Pond Wetland Park, Huinongqu Park, Stone Carving Park, Sculpture Park, and Hele Village. Yinchuan Contemporary Art Museum is one of the main buildings of the first phase of the Huaxiahetu project. It was designed by the famous WAA Architectural Design Office. The design inspiration comes from the wrinkled texture of the rock layer caused by geological changes, and expounds the concept of the passage of time and historical accumulation. It is the first professional contemporary art museum on the banks of the Yellow River in Northwest China, the first contemporary art museum located in an organic rice field, the first art museum focusing on the collection and display of "Chinese + Islamic" contemporary art, and the first contemporary art museum with a diversified art cluster. The Artist Village is a cultural and artistic community that cooperates with internationally renowned art institutions and curators to host long-term artistic creation, academic exchanges and exhibition activities. It is a place where young artists, curators and art institutions from home and abroad provide residency programs. Yutang Wetland Park is adjacent to Mingcui Lake Wetland Park. In accordance with the protection planning requirements for the southern area of Mingcui Lake National Wetland Park, it strictly protects the biological species diversity of the wetland and perfectly presents the obvious wetland characteristics. Here, you can enjoy the crisscrossing plank roads and small bridges, wandering among the reeds and lakes, watching birds, appreciating fish, listening to the wind, and watching the water. I believe you will definitely not need this trip. Huinong Canal Park was built in 1726. It is more than 130 miles long and has a history of nearly 300 years. It combines the natural mechanism of the water system to create a rich water space form. It is a camping site with a long history and is a trendy trend.Yongning · 13.9km from downtown

Drum Tower, also known as the "Cross Drum Tower" or "Four Drum Tower," stands at the intersection in the center of Yinchuan's old town, not far from Yuhuang Pavilion. The entire structure is over 30m high and built on a tall, square platform. The platform has arched doorways on all four sides that intersect in the middle, allowing the four streets below to meet and connect. The platform was first built in the first year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1821) and was constructed under the direction of the then-prefect of Ningxia. The stone inscriptions on the lintels of the four doorways were also written by him: "Ying'en" on the east, "Laixun" on the south, "Yishuang" on the west, and "Gongji" on the north; additional arched doors were opened on both sides of the east doorway, inscribed with "Kunhe" and "Qianpi" respectively. Inside the south arched door is a side chamber, and inside the north arched door is a hidden stone staircase leading up to the platform. The pavilion on the platform features a three-story, double-eaved, cross-gable roof design. Each level is surrounded by a corridor, and the roof ridge is decorated with dragon heads and a central pearl, creating the appearance of two dragons playing with a pearl. The upturned eaves and flying ridges give it a handsome and magnificent appearance. The pavilion was completed after being rebuilt with private donations in the late Qing Dynasty and renovated in the first half of the 20th century. A large bell once hung in the pavilion, which is why it is also known as the "Bell and Drum Tower." In 1926, the Special Branch of the Communist Party of China in Ningxia was established and operated here. The former site was located in the northeast corner room of the pavilion, leaving a mark of modern history on the ancient building. During the day, you can walk around the tower to examine the stone inscriptions and the details of the upturned eaves. At night, as the lights of the surrounding streets begin to glow, it is another great time to experience the vibrant atmosphere of old Yinchuan.Yinchuan · 21km from Yongning

Zhenbeibao Western Cinema is located in Xixia District, Yinchuan City. In this studio, which is characterized by simplicity, roughness and desolation, classic films such as "Wrangler", "Red Sorghum", "Journey to the West", "Thorn Mausoleum", "Jin Yiwei" and hundreds of influential film and television films were filmed. In the remaining part, a large number of celebrities from the Chinese film industry have left their footprints here, such as Gong Li, Jiang Wen, Zhang Yimou, Ge You, Zhou Xingchi, Donnie Yen and so on. The cinema consists of three parts: Mingcheng, Qingcheng and Old Yinchuan Street. Tourists can visit the cinema along the "figure 8" route of Old Yinchuan Street. Here, you can see the appearance of Yinchuan in the first half of the 20th century, and eat local traditional snacks such as mutton soup. The Ming and Qing cities in the film city were rebuilt from the military castles left over from the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the Ming and Qing cities, you can see many familiar movie scenes, such as: the gate tower where Sun Wukong and Fairy Zixia are standing in "Journey to the West", the throne of the Bull Demon King, the torture platform of the Tang monk; and the movie "Journey to the West" The Moon Gate in "Red Sorghum", the winemaking workshop where "My Grandpa" urinated after being drunk, the sedan chair that Jiu'er took when he got married, the big vat for wine, and the bowls. There are costumes and props for rent in many places in the studio. Here, you can wear a set of costumes in the play, use the props in the movie, and walk around the scenes of the movie to live the addiction of being a star. Before going to Zhenbeibao Western Studios, you can revisit a few classic movies first, and then go to visit, you will have a different feeling.Yinchuan · 40.8km from Yongning

The Jade Emperor Pavilion was built in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of more than 600 years. It is a traditional wooden structure with a large roof and a compact and exquisite structure. Because the statue of the Jade Emperor is cast inside, it is called the Jade Emperor Pavilion. The main pavilion of the Jade Emperor Pavilion is a two-story attic with double eaves. The pavilion is about 22.1 meters high and the platform base is rectangular. The Jade Emperor Pavilion and the Drum Tower reflect each other from afar, with a unique charm. Climbing to the of the pavilion, you can lean on the railing to see the towering Helan Mountain in the west and the rolling Yellow River in the east.Yinchuan · 21.1km from Yongning

Excellent, definitely worth seeing. Watching the performance taught me about the strong support the people of Fujian have given to Minning Town. It's a very immersive performance with a strong patriotic theme.

Shuidonggou is a place that simultaneously possesses a 40,000-year-old Paleolithic human site and an underground military fortress of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, allowing you to travel from prehistoric times to the Ming Dynasty frontier in one go! However, having seen the Great Wall beyond the Great Wall in Shanxi, this section of the Ming Great Wall is rather ordinary. Just take a look; it's a pity for the horses and camels pulling the carts. Electric carts could easily take you there, but they insist on using horses and camels, purely to charge more money. The hidden military tunnels at the back, however, are quite interesting and unique, with various traps and mechanisms underground—it's the first time I've seen them in person!

Sanguankou was one of the main passages for Mongolian cavalry to enter the Helan Mountain area. The Ming Dynasty built a border wall and fortress here. Now this area is the border between Ningxia and Inner Mongolia. The terrain is dangerous and only a few low-rise ruins of the Great Wall remain. From a distance, it is indeed a one-man defense.

The lake is vast, lush with aquatic plants and home to numerous waterfowl. A smaller version of Sand Lake, the lotus flowers are a highlight. However, it has a science exhibition hall and an 11th-floor observation deck with a wide view. Well worth a visit.

The moment the accelerator was pressed, the speedboat, nicknamed the "Ferrari of the water," shot off like an arrow, slicing through the mirror-like surface. The wind whistled past our ears, and tiny waves gently grazed the hull, leaving smooth white trails. Our vision unfolded along the expansive water, the outline of Lanshan Park gradually becoming clear along the shoreline. The dark green mountains, shrouded in lush vegetation, reflected in the shimmering water, while pavilions nestled among the trees added a touch of tranquility. The entire journey was seamless; the speed of the speedboat cutting through the waves blended perfectly with the breathtaking scenery, every second filled with exhilarating joy. A sea breeze carrying a light mist brushed against our faces, and the next stop was slowly approaching along the channel. This water journey, combining speed and magnificent scenery, was a truly fulfilling experience.

I went to Yinchuan for a trip last month, and the last stop I chose was the Yinchuan Contemporary Art Museum. The museum is located in the Huaxia Hetu Yinchuan Art Town. Don't be misled by the "town". In the entire area, except for the museum, all other houses are closed and empty. Although the scenery is beautiful, quiet and sparsely populated, there is no place to eat around the museum after it closes. So brothers and sisters who go there must make an appointment for the return trip in advance, otherwise it will be a very troublesome problem to even get out.

We visited the Drum Tower first, and then stopped by the Jade Emperor Pavilion. The two places are only a few minutes apart, and you'll pass a park frequented by locals on the way. The Jade Emperor Pavilion was built between the Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty (during the Zhengtong era), and was originally a watchtower. The pavilion itself isn't very large, and the main hall is currently closed for security reasons. A quick stroll around the pavilion won't take much time, and you can visit it after the Drum Tower.

It's quite famous, being a filming location for movies like "A Chinese Odyssey" and "Red Sorghum," and the film sets have a strong sense of Northwest China's rugged landscape, making it a good place for movie fans to take photos. However, the overall experience is just average. The park has many dirt roads, is windy and dusty, and sunny. Aside from taking photos, there's not much to see or do. If you're not particularly attached to the movies, don't have too high expectations.

The Jade Emperor Pavilion in Yinchuan is located at the intersection of Jiefang East Road and Jade Emperor Pavilion North Street. As the only existing ancient wooden high-rise pavilion in Yinchuan, its layout, including its platform, main hall, and side halls, is meticulously planned and beautifully decorated with painted murals, making it a representative example of Ming and Qing dynasty wooden architecture in Yinchuan. From the top of the Jade Emperor Pavilion, you can see the Helan Mountains. Since it's closed on Mondays, you can only take photos from the outside.
