Stilt Fisherman sri lanka

4.4/5

Stilt Fisherman sri lankalocated in the Koggala area on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, is a unique traditional fishing view. Unlike traditional ports with large berths, modern equipment, and fleets of fishing boats, the fishing area here is mainly distributed near the shallow coastal reefs, surrounded by the open Indian Ocean, stretches of sandy beaches, and a coastline that rises and falls with the waves. Looking along the coast, wooden poles stand in the shallow water, creating a unique stilt fishing scene. The main facilities here are simple and practical, centered on wooden poles fixed in the shallow sea and crossbars erected on them. Fishermen usually wade barefoot to the poles, climb onto the crossbars, and sit on the makeshift wooden frames to fish with rods.Sri Lanka · Koggala

Located on the east side of the University of Colombo, the square is an iconic cultural square and the place where Sri Lanka's independence ceremony on February 4, 1948 was held. Looking around here, the White House is faintly visible in the distance. Many young people rest and read here, which is a good place to find a comfortable and quiet place. 1. "Kandy Culture" Visit the Memorial Hall, you will see elephants, lions and patterns describing the history of Sri Lanka's Buddhism carved on the pillars. There are also 60 stone lions symbolizing the Sinhalese around the memorial hall. Each lion represents a king, reflecting the style of Kandy culture. 2. The Independence Hall in the center of the Independence Hall Square is built to imitate the hall where pilgrims were received during the Kandy Dynasty. The green lawn around the square reflects the Independence Memorial Hall, surrounded by stone lions, and there is a statue of D.S Senyonayake on the back of the Memorial Hall. 3. Shopping There is also a shopping center called Arcade. There are many brand stores in the European-style building. It is quite cost-effective when the products are discounted.Sri Lanka · Colombo

St. Mary's Church - Grand Streetis located in the city center of Negombo, Sri Lanka, and features a neoclassical architectural style. The exterior facade is primarily a soft, creamy white, with symmetrical and imposing colonnades. The architectural lines are simple and solemn, creating a striking visual contrast with the surrounding streets. Inside, the high, spacious nave creates an open and solemn atmosphere. The elegant, simple walls harmonize with the orderly architectural structure, giving the entire space a serene and dignified feel. In sharp contrast to the simple walls are the rich, exquisite religious frescoes on the nave ceiling. The stained glass windows inside the church are also a major highlight. Sunlight streams through the glass, casting soft, shifting colors onto the floor, walls, and altar, adding a dynamic play of light and shadow to the solemn space. As the angle of the light changes throughout the day, the colorful light and shadows complement the ceiling frescoes, giving the entire nave a rich visual depth.Sri Lanka · Negombo

Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque is located near Pettah Market. Construction began in 1908 and was completed the following year. Due to its striking red and white striped exterior walls, it is colloquially known by locals as the "Red Mosque" and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Colombo. It is said that in the days before high-rise buildings emerged around the harbor, sailors entering the port often used it to identify the port of Colombo. The entire building is a two-story structure made of red and white bricks, with stripes, domes, minarets, and a clock tower stacked in layers. Stylistically, it belongs to the Indo-Saracenic style, blending Indian Islamic and indigenous Indian architectural traditions, with Gothic Revival and Neoclassical elements.Sri Lanka · Colombo

Bentota River MangrovesLocated near the mouth of the Bentota River on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, it is a natural scenic area characterized by estuarine wetland ecology and boat sightseeing. Here, the confluence of fresh and salt water provides suitable conditions for mangrove growth, and dense trees extend along the riverbanks, forming a lush, multi-layered green view. Compared to the bustling beach resort areas, the interior of the mangroves is much quieter. Visitors can take a small boat with a canopy into the waterways to experience the unique charm of the wetland environment while moving slowly. As the boat moves slowly along the winding waterways, the prop roots of the mangroves on both banks intertwine, vines hang low, and branches and leaves connect overhead, creating a view that resembles a natural green tunnel. Sunlight filters through the leaves onto the water, and the river reflects the surrounding plants, swaying gently with the boat to present a tranquil and layered natural pictureSri Lanka · Galle

Galle Face Green

Galle Face Green Plaza is a scenic promenade in the heart of Colombo's financial and business district, stretching for half a kilometer along the coast of the Indian Ocean, a great place to watch the sunset. The surrounding business atmosphere is strong and the activities are rich. 1. Seaside scenery When you walk on this seaside avenue with the sea breeze and the sound of the waves, one side is the Indian Ocean seascape, and the other side is the modern city scenery of Colombo. In the evening, it is still a place to enjoy the sunset view. There is a slender beach under the seawall. Although it is not too clean, it is also a good place to play in the water. There is a viewing platform in the middle of the square, where you can get close contact with the sea. 2. There is a flag lowering ceremony at 6 o'clock every night in the surrounding activity square, which is very spectacular and worth seeing. In addition, there is a night market near the beach at night. You will see many barbecue stalls. Grilled fish is very surprising. All kinds of traditional Lankan food will also gather here. In addition, due to its close proximity to the Presidential Palace, the Independence Day military parade has also been held here in recent years. 3. The history of the square During the Dutch rule, it was used as a breakwater and a fortress. In 1859, the then Governor of British Ceylon opened this green space for a racecourse and golf course. Today, Galle Face Green has become a popular local leisure spot, where you can often see locals jogging, walking, kite flying, and even couples who are in love.Sri Lanka · Colombo

Watching the stilt fishermen of Sri Lanka is like witnessing a living painting—grace, balance, and tradition suspended above the sea. Perched on slender poles as the sun dips low, these silent silhouettes tell a timeless story of resilience and harmony with nature. It’s not just fishing—it’s an art form passed down through generations, standing tall against tides and time. A truly humbling and poetic glimpse into coastal life that stays with you long after the waves fade.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the museum. This is a large square. It is said that it was the place where independence celebrations were held. It has good greening and is very suitable. Take a walk here at dusk.

It's a nice and quiet beach in the city center with an upscale shopping mall. There isn't a sandy beach but has a deck reaching out over the waters to watch the waves. Beware of stray dogs in the area. People were also flying kites on the grass.
