The British Museum

The British Museum is one of the largest and most renowned museums in the world. The British Museum houses over 8 million cultural relics and treasures from around the globe, with its vast quantity and diversity of collections being rare among museums worldwide. Rich collection of treasures Due to its vast collection, The British Museum can nearly showcase the entire course of world civilization. Despite spatial limitations, it still displays approx. 50,000 items simultaneously. The main collections date from the medieval period, with particular renown for ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman artifacts, alongside a wealth of precious cultural relics from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. Many cultural treasures from around the world can only be seen in their authentic form here. Ancient Greek-style main building The main building emulates ancient Greek architecture, featuring a grand entrance with a tall colonnade flanked by eight thick and towering Roman-style columns on each side, topped by a pediment roof adorned with reliefs. Entering through the main door leads to the great court, which is connected to over 100 galleries of various sizes surrounding it. Inspired by the Louvre Pyramid, the great court is bright, spacious, and elegantly minimalist. Bright central atrium The great court was originally part of the British Library. After the library moved out, it was transformed into a covered square with a white color scheme. The square's massive semi-transparent roof is composed of many uniquely shaped glass panels, combined with white stone, ensuring excellent lighting even on gloomy days in London. The sculptures displayed in the court are genuine treasures, such as the marble lion and Easter Island statues. Additionally, artists from around the world occasionally perform here, adding a relaxed atmosphere to the solemn museum. At the center of the grand atrium is the reading room, displaying art literature and books open to the public, where travelers can admire the dome and quaint circular bookshelves up close. The entrance of the reading room is marked with the names of notable figures to commemorate their time spent reading here. Cafés and restaurants are located on both sides and above the grand atrium, offering dining options with a view overlooking the entire space. Along the outer edge of the reading room lies the museum shop, where visitors can purchase souvenirs after their tour. Three iconic treasures The Rosetta Stone: Originally from Egypt, this stone bears three different script versions of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's decree. Through comparing these scripts, archaeologists gradually unlocked the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian civilization. However, the Rosetta Stone displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is a replica. Admonitions scroll: The scroll consists of 12 paintings in total, with The British Museum housing 9 Tang dynasty replica versions. The Admonitions scroll ranks 39th in BBC's "A History of the World in 100 Objects," highlighting its immense cultural and historical value. Throughout history, the scroll has been collected by numerous emperors and high-ranking officials. The Elgin Marbles: These are sculptural fragments from the Parthenon, with a history of over 2,500 years. They have been housed in the museum for over 200 years since the British royal family purchased them at great expense. Specialty exhibition halls Asian pavilions: Halls 33 and 95. Hall 33 features artifacts from China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, including collections from countries like India. Hall 33B is dedicated to Chinese jade artifacts, while Hall 95 showcases Chinese ceramics. The British Museum is one of the museums with the largest collections of lost Chinese artifacts, housing over 25,000 pieces, with approx. 2,000 on long-term display. The exhibition is meticulously designed, organizing Shang and Zhou dynasty bronzes along a chronological sequence, displaying artifacts from the Shang and Zhou, Qin and Han, to the Republican era. The major kilns of porcelain are divided into different curated sections by Ru, Ge, Jun, Ding, and Guan styles, presented professionally and systematically. Recommended artifacts to admire include large Tang tri-color ceramics, the Song Cizhou kiln "circus pillow," the Yuan blue-and-white fish and algae pattern large plate, Ming Xuande cloisonné, and Dunhuang mural Buddha statues. Ancient Egypt exhibition hall: halls 4, 61-66. One of the popular spots in the museum. The exhibits include mummies. The ancient Egypt hall is also one of the most visited exhibition halls, and almost all visitors to The British Museum make it a must-see. Ancient Greek and Roman galleries: rooms 11-23, 69-73, 77, 78, 82-85. The entire Parthenon is truly awe-inspiring, along with numerous ancient Greek marble sculptures and exquisite artifacts like vases. Don't miss the Portland Vase in room 70. Some exhibits are not suitable for long-term display and are only open during specific periods each year (including the mentioned Admonitions scroll). The River Thames is the mother river of the UK, stretching 346 km and flowing through London and more than 10 cities along its course. The riverbanks are dotted with numerous attractions, making it well worth exploring whether by walking along the shore or taking a cruise. For a comprehensive view of the river, a River Thames cruise is highly recommended, offering panoramic sights of both banks. There are several major piers along the river, where you can board at Westminster Pier and disembark at St. Katharine Pier. Key attractions near Westminster Pier include Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben. As the cruise slowly heads east, you can admire landmarks such as Hungerford Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, the London Eye, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, St. Paul's Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge, the Monument, HMS Belfast, the Tower of London, and Tower Bridge. This stretch showcases the highlights of the river's scenery. Past Tower Bridge, the attractions become fewer, and the cruise concludes at St. Katharine Pier. Most cruises are equipped with rain shelters, and some even have air conditioning, making them suitable for all weather conditions. However, clear days are ideal for the best views. Some cruises offer multilingual guide broadcasts, so you can move closer to listen and learn about the riverside attractions. If taking an open-top cruise in winter, especially in the evening, dressing warmly with a thick coat and scarf is advisable. Some boats have restrooms, so you may inquire with the cruise company in advance for convenience. Of course, you can also stroll along the river like the locals, enjoying the scenery up close or even sitting on the embankment for a leisurely time while watching street performers. Additionally, many restaurants along the riverbanks set up outdoor seating, allowing you to dine by the water in the evening, savoring both the cuisine and the views.United Kingdom · London

The National Gallery, located on the north side of Trafalgar Square, was founded in 1824. The museum houses numerous fine artworks from the 13th to the 19th centuries, covering almost all typical representative works from all periods in European art history, from the late Middle Ages, the Renaissance, to the French Impressionist period. Overview of the Museum The museum displays famous paintings by renowned artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Raphael, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, etc. The entire art museum is divided into four wings: the southeast, the southwest, the northeast, and the northwest, with exhibits arranged in chronological order. The interior decoration of the museum is extremely classical and magnificent. People flock here all day long, so it is recommended to arrive early for entry. Before the visit, you can rent a Chinese-language audio guide for £4 at the entrance of the main entrance colonnade or on the second floor of the Sainsbury Wing, which provides detailed explanations of over 40 artworks in the collection. The collection is mainly displayed on the second floor of the art museum, where dozens of exhibition rooms are located. The Sainsbury Wing, added in 1991, is connected to Room 9 on the second floor of the main building and houses early Renaissance works, with Leonardo da Vinci's "The Virgin of the Rocks" and "The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and Saint John the Baptist" being among the most well-known. The West Hall of the main building displays Italian and German paintings from the High Renaissance, including some of the rare large-scale works in the museum. The North Hall houses paintings from the 17th - 18th centuries by Dutch, Italian, French, and Spanish artists, with two dedicated exhibition rooms for Rembrandt's works. The collection in the East Hall includes Venetian, French, and British paintings from the 18th century to the early 20th century, with landscape paintings as a major feature, and also many masterpieces of the Romantic and Impressionist schools. The National Gallery houses numerous treasures, and even those with limited knowledge of art can directly feel the impact of art here. A general visit takes at least two hours, and if you have ample time, you can set aside half a day. Popular Exhibit Recommendations The following recommends some popular exhibits that should not be missed even if you just take a quick look, and often require queuing for a visit. Michelangelo's The Entombment is located in Exhibition Room 8. Rembrandt's Self Portrait at the Age of 34 is located in Exhibition Room 24. Monet's The Water-Lily Pond is located in Exhibition Room 43. Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" is located in Exhibition Room 45. Leonardo da Vinci's The Virgin of the Rocks is located in Exhibition Room 57. Botticelli's "Venus and Mars" is located in Exhibition Room 58. Raphael's The Madonna of the Pinks is located in Exhibition Room 60. Please note that the exhibited paintings may be relocated daily, and the exhibition booths are not fixed. After entering the museum, you can first visit the Help Desk to inquire about the specific location of the paintings and pick up a guidebook. During your visit, some paintings may not be on display due to maintenance, loan, or other reasons. You can visit the official website or contact the museum's Information Department (information@ng-london.org.uk) in advance to check whether a specific painting is currently on display.United Kingdom · London

Greenwich Park is one of London's historic royal parks. Enclosed by Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, in the 15th century, it is also a core component of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Maritime Greenwich". The park is situated on a hill on the south bank of the River Thames. From the hilltop, you can take in the modern skyline of Canary Wharf and the winding River Thames. A striking landmark in the park is the Royal Observatory Greenwich standing atop the hill—the birthplace of Greenwich Mean Time. In 1884, the Prime Meridian passing through this location was established as the global zero point for longitude, allowing visitors to stand on this line and straddle the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. The deer park on the hillside preserves the tradition of introducing deer herds dating back to the time of Henry VIII, and fallow deer foraging in the woods is a sight that has continued in the park for hundreds of years. The park also features ancient sweet chestnut trees aged approx. 360 years, as well as the historic Queen's Orchard. The park, along with the National Maritime Museum, theQueen's House, and the Cutty Sark sailing ship at the foot of the hill, forms a complete tour route for the core area.United Kingdom · London

The glass-clad building of The Shard is the first heavyweight structure completed in central London during the "post-Olympic era." The entire tower takes the form of a massive steel-framed tetrahedron, with its exterior composed of over 11,000 large glass panels forming a curtain wall covering an area equivalent to eight football fields. It presents a spectacular sight against the backdrop of the River Thames. The top of the building is not sealed but remains open in staggered layers, resembling several giant glass fragments supporting each other when viewed from afar. △The Shard is divided into five sections from bottom to top, namely office space, upscale restaurants, the Shangri-La Hotel, high-rise residential areas, and the observation deck at the top. The rational layout ensures every part of the building is fully utilized. △The sunset and night view of the building are breathtaking. △ Chatting with a few friends while admiring the beautiful scenery of London, plus a glass of champagne, must be a wonderful experience!United Kingdom · London

The Natural History Museum is located in LondonSouth Kensington,Adjacent to the science museum and the Victoria and Albert MuseumThe museum displays approx. 70 million exhibits on Earth's history and biological evolution, ranging from samples collected by Darwin during his research on evolutionary theory to Jurassic-era dinosaur fossils, as well as various plant, animal, and geological specimens. Museum introduction The museum's exterior is quite magnificent, with its intricate and exquisite carvings on the outer walls, windows, and interior, which are truly awe-inspiring. The Victorian-style architecture resembles a grand cathedral, earning it the nickname "cathedral of nature." The museum houses 20 large exhibition halls, covering themes such as botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology, and zoology. Many of the collections hold great historical and scientific value. Museum facilities The museum exhibitions are highly entertaining, featuring various interactive facilities such as weight-comparison testers, giant fetal models, and hands-on gadgets, making visits both fun and educational for adults and children alike. Additionally, the museum regularly organizes a variety of lecture activities to popularize natural science knowledge. Star exhibits Stepping through the main entrance into the soaring central hall, visitors are greeted by the 20 m-long skeleton of a blue whale named "Hope" suspended overhead. This genuine specimen came from a blue whale stranded in Ireland in 1891. In summer 2017, it replaced "Dippy" - the plaster cast diplodocus skeleton that had guarded the hall since 1905 for nearly forty years, whose departure sparked public petitions to keep it. Now a bronze version of Dippy named "Fern" stands in the museum garden, marking its return in another form. On the left is the museum's highly popular dinosaur exhibition hall, mainly displaying paleontological fossil specimens such as ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, the massive Tyrannosaurus rex, the tiny-complexed Scansoriopteryx, the long-tailed pterosaurs, and a complete Archaeopteryx skeleton. On the right are modern animals, including marine invertebrates, fish, birds, and reptiles, with the bird exhibits being particularly outstanding. Above the staircase leading to the second floor in the hall, there is also a statue of Darwin. Second floor of the museum On the second floor, there is a two-story-high mammal exhibition hall, where the most eye-catching features are the giant whale skeletons and models suspended in the air, including a particularly striking model of a Blue Whale. The displays of African savanna animals and Australian marsupials are also impressive. Additionally, there are exhibition halls for minerals, rocks, gems, and marble, where you can see the Delhi Purple Sapphire, a prized museum artifact that was sealed away for decades before being publicly displayed again. This gem is said to carry a "curse," as its successive owners allegedly suffered disasters or sudden misfortunes. From the arched bridge in the middle of the second floor, you can overlook the museum's interior view. The third floor houses exhibits of modern and fossilized plants. Other areas like the Darwin Centre and the Earth Hall are equally fascinating, and a full tour is recommended to take about half a day.United Kingdom · London

Seven Sisters Country Park

Seven Sisters Country Park borders the English Channel and is named after the seven connected chalk cliffs within the park. Located on the coastline of East Sussex, these cliffs are a geological feature formed by the long-term erosion of the South Downs by the sea. The cliffs are composed of chalk formed by the remains of marine micro-organisms deposited tens of millions of years ago; they are entirely white, creating a striking contrast with the emerald green grass on the cliff tops and the blue sea below. The Cuckmere Haven area within the park is one of the most recognizable views along the entire coastline. The winding stream flows through the chalk valley into the sea, and the estuary mudflats and surrounding chalk grasslands together form an important ecological habitat where various seabirds and migratory birds can be observed year-round. The Coastguard Cottages by the estuary are a classic spot for photographing the panoramic view of the seven cliffs; looking east from here, you can see the full silhouette of the cliffs arranged in sequence. The South Downs Way, which winds along the cliff tops, is a classic hiking route for experiencing the full view of the cliffs. Walking along the undulating cliff ridges, you have an unobstructed view of the English Channel on one side and open grasslands and pastures on the other. The cliffs are constantly changing shape due to continuous sea erosion, and cliff faces occasionally collapse into the sea, which means the silhouette of the cliff line you see each time you visit may be slightly different. The Seven Sisters cliffs have also appeared in many films and television shows; because the cliffs are white and free from modern architectural interference, they are often used as a stand-in for the White Cliffs of Dover. The coastal background of the Quidditch World Cup stadium in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the final scene of "Atonement," and the opening shots of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" were all filmed here.United Kingdom · Seaford

Hyde Park is located northwest of Buckingham Palace and is one of the major royal parks in central London. The park features lush trees and an expansive lake, which is divided into two parts by the Serpentine. The west side of the lake connects to Kensington Gardens. When the weather is nice, many Londoners come here to run, cycle, or take a walk. The park has dedicated cycling paths, and you can also rent a bicycle for a leisurely tour. The main entrance on the southeast side of the park features Wellington Arch. Entering from here and walking a short distance west, you will see the Serpentine. Mute swans swim leisurely in the lake, while pigeons and birds frequently skim across the water, and squirrels are often seen on the lawns. Walking west along the south bank of the Serpentine, you can see the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain—it is shaped like an undulating, circular granite water channel, resembling a necklace lying on the green grass. The shallow water flows continuously, passing through different water states such as cascades, eddies, and bubbling springs, and visitors can walk into the fountain to splash around. Marble Arch on the northeast side of the park is another entrance. Nearby, Speakers' Corner is a well-known public forum in London that allows people to give speeches on the street. The park is also dotted with various commemorative sculptures and bridleways—this sandy horse track is approx. 1,384m long. Occasionally, you can see horse trainers leading horses past, which adds a unique charm to the center of London.United Kingdom · London

Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum specializes in displaying applied and decorative artworks, with a very rich collection. Most of the exhibits are from Europe, but there are also collections of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and Islamic art, including glassware, porcelain, textiles, metalwork, jewelry, etc., which are well worth spending a whole day studying in detail.  Historical Background Founded in 1852, the museum was built for the first Great Exhibition held in London and named after Queen Victoria and her husband. It does not collect exhibits based on traditional criteria such as "ancient" or "rare", but emphasizes social, living, and decorative significance, thus attracting many designers, art enthusiasts, students, and other groups to linger here, and even ordinary tourists find it highly interesting. In addition, the frequent temporary special exhibitions and weekly Friday evening theme activities offer a wide variety, allowing different tourists to find points of interest.  Visit the museum The exterior of the museum building is covered with magnificent sculptures, elegant and refined. Entering through the main entrance, a large glass work by Dale Chihuly hangs above the hall, resembling a cluster of enchanting and luxurious vines. Visiting the two-story glass exhibition hall, one can admire the works of world-renowned glass artists such as Reno, William Morris, and Anthony Le Prieur. The ever-changing shapes, vivid colors, and exquisite blowing techniques are all amazing, truly a visual treat; even the stairs between floors are made of glass, quite pure. You can also learn about the evolution of glass art from Egypt to Rome and since the Western Middle Ages.  #Ceramic Exhibition Hall# Leaving the glass exhibition hall and going upstairs, you will reach the ceramic exhibition hall, which consists of six or seven consecutive halls displaying numerous treasures ranging from ancient art from various countries to modern ceramic art, some small and delicate, others avant-garde and exaggerated, arousing boundless imagination; among them are also blue-and-white porcelain from China, which is exquisitely beautiful. #Furniture Exhibition Hall# The furniture exhibition hall is also a riot of colors, with some of the displayed works being simple yet functional, some being retro and gorgeous, pleasing to the eye, and some even accompanied by the designer's sketches. During the visit, one often encounters local students here copying design works, which is quite interesting.  #Replica Exhibition Hall and Iron Art Gallery# There are also many special places in the museum worth exploring. For example, the replica exhibition hall on the first floor displays various plaster replicas of sculptures and architectural decorations, including the huge Trajan's Column of ancient Rome, whose exquisite carving is truly amazing; you can also find famous works such as the Statue of David. Another example is the ironwork corridor on the second floor, from the elegantly shaped doors and fences to the delicate spoons, complex secret boxes, and locks of various shapes, which are truly eye-opening. There is also a fashion design exhibition hall themed on fashion, etc.  #Theater Exhibition Hall#  houses a vast collection related to British theatrical performances, including numerous performing arts forms such as drama, opera, musicals, puppet shows, etc. It comprehensively showcases a wide range of items documenting the past on and off the stage, such as costumes, manuscripts, scripts, posters, videotapes, etc., enabling the performances of bygone eras to vividly reappear before your eyes once again.  #Wonderful Collection Recommendations#  In addition, the museum officials have also provided some recommended collections not to be missed, such as Raphael's hand-drawn design The Miracle of the Catch of Fish, the stacked drawers Memory Eternal, the sculpture The Three Graces created by Antonio Canova, the printed cotton Strawberry Thief designed by William Morris, etc.  York Museum Gardens If you're tired from strolling around, there's another world in the central garden of the museum. The Renaissance-style red brick buildings, the adults and children sitting around the shallow pool, and the serene atmosphere under the blue sky are all intoxicating. There are three restaurants in the red brick building facing the garden, one of which was designed by William Morris. The olive-patterned walls and dark paint create a lush and leafy indoor effect, making it very comfortable to sit down and enjoy some cakes and cookies.  Fantastic Temporary Exhibition The museum's temporary exhibitions are another highlight here. For example, previous exhibitions such as the Ancient Chinese Painting Exhibition and the Italian Fashion Exhibition have all attracted many visitors. To view special exhibitions, separate tickets are required. For information on recent special exhibition schedules, please refer to the official website.  Buy Souvenirs The museum souvenir shop offers a wide variety of distinctive souvenirs, such as designer jewelry in the style of early Hollywood icons, handicrafts themed around the Renaissance or modernism, vintage Christmas cards, fashionable clothing, etc. The themed events on Friday evenings often coincide with the release of limited-edition souvenirs.  Every Friday evening, the museum extends its opening hours, and special themed events (Friday Lates) are often held, such as DJ nights, dance performances, food tastings, expert talks and other experiential activities, which are very exciting and free for visitors to attend.United Kingdom · London

My first stop after arriving in London, and the scenery was great! 👍 I booked a ticket for 7:15 PM, but they wouldn't let us in at 7 PM, so they were quite strict about the time. We used an elevator to go upstairs, but it wasn't anything special. I originally hoped to see both the daytime and nighttime views from 7 PM, but after waiting for ages, it still wasn't dark. Then I checked and found out that sunset was actually at 8:22 PM. Not wanting to wait that long, I went downstairs early. If you're just sightseeing, about 30 minutes is enough. There are many places selling drinks, so if you want to enjoy the view while having a drink, you can spend more time there. However, if you want to see both the daytime and nighttime views, I recommend going up after 8 PM (I went on April 30th).

The teacher started from the Oxford University Museum and finally went to Chris Church College, bringing us a very detailed history of Britain and the origin of Oxford. The most impressive thing is the story of Bloody Mary: the conflict between the new and old churches, the three archbishops who were burned to death, and the violence and killing caused by an unfortunate childhood. The teacher prepared very carefully! When narrating, he could also cite modern classics. The children could also fill in and remember these stories based on film and television works, such as the history of the entire Oxford University & the division of labor of the colleges, etc., which can be understood in combination with the plot of Harry Potter~ Three hours of explanation, let us all want more!

Hyde Park is one of London’s most iconic green spaces and a wonderful place to relax in the heart of the city. The park offers beautiful walking paths, open lawns, scenic gardens, and the famous Serpentine Lake, creating a peaceful escape from the busy streets nearby. I enjoyed strolling through the tree-lined avenues, watching people paddle on the lake, and taking in the tranquil atmosphere. Whether you want to have a picnic, go for a jog, enjoy outdoor events, or simply unwind, Hyde Park provides something for everyone and remains one of London’s most beloved attractions.
