Things to do in Kangping

Located in Kangping County, Liaoning Province, at the junction of Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and Jilin Provinces, it is the largest plain freshwater lake in Liaoning, a wetland-type protected area, and an important habitat for migratory birds. The lake is vast and the waves are rippling. You can camp, watch birds, and appreciate lotus flowers around it. It is worth coming here to relax on the weekend.

Zhang Xueliang's former residence is a must-see attraction in Shenyang Fangjie Cultural Tourism Area. The architecture is distinctive and perfect for taking photos. I went during the National Day holiday, and the queue at the entrance was extremely long; I waited for over an hour to get in. Once inside, if you wanted to go upstairs to continue your visit, you had to queue for another half hour or more. The overall experience was very poor, and the orderliness of the scenic area needs improvement. The Financial Museum wasn't very popular; it mainly discusses the history of Northeast China's economy and world currencies, which was rather boring.

I thought it was great, quite interesting, and worth a visit. I also recommend hiring a guide; you can find the official guides at the entrance. It costs 40 yuan per person, which is enough for an hour.

There were so many people and tourists that I didn't have time to take in many things. It's like a low-end version of the Forbidden City in Beijing. Many of the artifacts on display were discarded from the Forbidden City. Some rooms were off-limits, so people crowded around the entrances to take photos. There was no lighting inside, so the photos didn't look great. The architecture is still quite distinctive.

It's a bit far from downtown Changchun, about an hour's drive away. The automatic parking system at the entrance was a first for me, and it was free! There were even volunteers to show you how to use it – so thoughtful! The place is incredibly large; walking is impossible. A bus ride around it takes over 40 minutes. The most beautiful area is near the dam, not far from the entrance!

Liaoning Provincial Museum, the first museum established after the founding of the People's Republic of China, is a national first-class museum with a collection of nearly 120,000 items. It is a highly representative historical and cultural landmark of Shenyang. Detailed address: No. 157, Zhihui Third Street, Hunnan District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. No reservation is required; simply present your ID card for direct entry. It is a 150-meter walk from Exit D of the Provincial Museum Station on Metro Line 2. Vehicles can enter and park through the South Gate, while visitors enter and exit through the West Gate.

Overall, it's pretty good. Once you get there, you can rent a car. I didn't know how to drive at first, but with my years of driving experience, I learned quickly. This saves energy. You can download an app, locate yourself, and check out the attractions and waiting times. Boys might like the Dinosaur Extinction attraction, as well as some thrilling rides. Some attractions require separate fees, such as the Ice and Snow World and the Petting Zoo!

I regretfully missed the snow cake monkey show during the day, but a quiet stroll through the park still had its own charm. I wandered around leisurely, getting up close to the animals and encountering several rare creatures. The autumn breeze in Northeast China was so refreshing; it instantly relieved all work stress, a brief moment of healing.

We took our kids back to China for summer vacation and had our first experience at a Northeastern Chinese bathhouse. We absolutely loved all the facilities and services. Children under 1.4 meters tall get in for free, making it incredibly good value for money. If we have the chance, we'll definitely bring our family and friends to experience this top-tier bathhouse in China!

The entire scenic area is quite large. It's recommended to allow 2 hours for the Imperial Palace Museum, and the outer area also includes the Northeast Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall and the M+ Park. Therefore, it's advisable to allow at least 3 hours for the entire scenic area.
