Sanmenhai Area

4.5/5
890 reviews
Nestled among the karst peaks of Fengshan County, Hechi, Guangxi, the Sanmenhai Area is a cluster of collapsed skylights connected by an underground river. The cave ceilings collapsed and linked with the surface, leaving seven skylights arranged like a string of beads resembling the Big Dipper, with three currently accessible by boat. The journey begins on a bright lake before entering a dark cave, then emerging back into the light, with the scenery of mountains, water, caves, and sky alternating before your eyes—creating the illusion of "seas within mountains and gates above seas," which inspired the name Sanmenhai. Geologists and cave researchers call this skylight cluster the "Window of the World" and the "Karst Geology Museum," as it remains largely untouched by human development. During the boat tour, the first stretch of water forms a lake encircled by cliffs, its surface a deep blue. The second skylight, known as the "Half-moon Skylight," reveals a rock opening resembling a crescent moon hanging above. The innermost skylight passage is deep and maintains a constant temperature—warm in winter and cool in summer. When sunlight slants through the opening onto the water, the turquoise lake and submerged rock walls reflect like a piece of jade immersed in water. The tour is primarily by boat, alternating between bright lakes and dark caves. Each passage through shadowy waterways is met with light from the skylights, offering perfect photo opportunities on sunny days when the water displays distinct layers of color. Due to its remote location, a round-trip to Fengshan town requires planning for travel time. The experience is boat-centric and pairs well with other karst views in the county on the same day.Fengshan · 15.5km from downtown

The Mianhua Tiankeng is located in Mianhua Village, Siba Town, Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County, Guangxi. It is the first tiankeng theater scenic area in China invested by Guangxi Yueto Group and built according to the national AAAA standards. It covers a total area of nearly 2,000 acres, including the Tiankeng Theater, Shendong Ancient Village B&B, and Changsheng Cave. The Tiankeng Theater is about 280 meters deep and 300 meters wide. The entire cliff plank road (cliff stand) is about 800 meters long and can accommodate more than 3,000 spectators at the same time. The central part of the Tiankeng is a central stage of more than 800 square meters. The plank road and the stage form an interchangeable interactive scene of the theater, providing tourists with more participatory experiences. The cliff hotel in the pit, the ladder, the zip line, the rock climbing (via ferrata), the cliff swing, and the glass plank road on the cliff crack will make you experience novelty and scream. The Shendong Ancient Village B&B is built with mud in the style of ancient Mulao dwellings. The overall style is simple and nostalgic, clumsy and plain. Changsheng Cave is located 500 meters behind the mountain of Shendongtun. There are many wonders in the cave. The stalactites have different shapes, some look like birds and animals, and some look like vegetables and fruits. Especially under the light in the water, the reflection of the strange rocks in the cave is even more colorful, which creates a different world.Luocheng · 12.2km from downtown

The scenery is beautiful, the water is green, and the caves are unique, making it worthwhile to take a boat trip! The boat tickets are a bit pricey, the boat trip lasts less than half an hour, and local villagers are allowed to mark their own parking areas and charge 20 yuan per car!

I'd heard about the White Devil Cave before and visited today. I expected it to be cool inside, but it wasn't. Many people were lying on the magnetic ground, which didn't feel very comfortable. Everything else was fine.

I went in September. The last boat left at 4:30 PM. The staff said they only let boats depart for groups of eight or more, and although we only had four people, they still let us go – a huge thumbs up! It was like having the boat to ourselves. The round trip was 80 minutes, and the scenery along the way was absolutely stunning. There were natural beauties passing through canyons, as well as idyllic rural landscapes along the way. It rivals the scenery of Guilin and is definitely worth a visit. Take 1-2 hours to explore.

The scenic area is well-designed, clean and tidy, with a reasonable flow of movement. Walking there and taking the bus back are perfectly combined. The cave is beautiful, without any colorful lights. The design is reasonable and aesthetically pleasing.

This cave is quite famous, and it's said that the Earth's magnetic field can cure diseases, which attracts many tourists. Actually, you only visit two caves. The second cave is quite ordinary and requires climbing up and down ladders inside. The highlight is the first cave, where you can sit down, have tea with your parents, and experience the Earth's magnetic field.

Well, the sinkhole is definitely worth seeing, and the cliffside bookstore is beautiful at night when it's lit up. Changsheng Cave is also quite impressive; it's one of the most spectacular karst caves I've seen. Unfortunately, our itinerary was a bit poorly planned. After checking into our guesthouse and having lunch, around 1 PM, we went down to the sinkhole to see the cliffside bookstore instead of taking the mini-train to Changsheng Cave. Climbing back up from the sinkhole was difficult, and the kids didn't want to climb anymore; they wanted to wait until the bookstore lights up and the bonfire party, so we spent the entire afternoon and evening at the sinkhole. The next day, we planned to take the mini-train, but we thought it would leave at 9 AM, when it actually departs at 9:30. We arrived at the train station at 8:30 and didn't want to wait. We opted to walk to Changsheng Cave, and the climb was exhausting!

It's definitely worth visiting. Unlike ordinary caves, the core area is as beautiful as a crystal chandelier—the name is truly fitting. However, there's a persistent problem: someone keeps shouting loudly, and once one starts, everyone else seems to catch it and starts yelling incessantly. It's incredibly noisy, and the staff doesn't seem to care.

The scenic spot is very rich in cultural heritage. The tour guide Sister Chen Ling patiently and meticulously explained the local characteristics such as the longevity of the benevolent and the grain replenishment ceremony. The scenic spot also provides free snacks such as tofu pudding and glutinous rice cakes, and there are bonfire performances in the evening, which is highly recommended!
