Beihai Old Town

Beihai Old Town is the birthplace of Beihai city, consisting of three old streets—Zhuhai Road, Shaji Street, and Zhongshan Road—and over 20 small alleys. Among them, Beihai Old Street was built during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. Originally named Shengping Street, it was only approx. 200 m long at first. Over approx. 200 years, it has expanded into the current arcade street that stretches over 1 km and is only a few meters wide. The arcades, a blend of Chinese and Western styles, are connected house by house, earning it the reputation of a modern architectural yearbook. This old street is worth slowing down to examine the facades: on the white-toned walls, parapets, European-style arched windows, balconies, pediments, and insect and bird reliefs are connected layer by layer, like a sculpture gallery suspended in mid-air; in the past, shops were on the ground floor and residences were upstairs, with pedestrians walking under the arcades to shelter from the sun and rain, which is the classic experience of a Lingnan arcade street. The old town is also dotted with modern historical sites such as the former site of the Customs Building, the former site of the Great Qing Post Office, and the former site of the Telegraph Office. Bronze sculptures along the street recreate the life of the former trading port and fishing harbor, while the History and Culture Museum and the Folk Customs Exhibition Hall clearly explain the history of Tanka culture and the opening of the port for trade. When visiting the old town, don't just walk along the main street: turn into Jinyu Lane to find the former Dong'an Wharf and the Jiedukou Site. Passing through the alleys so narrow you have to turn sideways to walk, you will reach Shaji Street, which is paved with bluestone slabs and is quieter and more full of local life. The various shops along the street are full of local life, and South Sea pearls and dried seafood are suitable as souvenirs. The daytime is suitable for examining the architecture and taking vintage photos, while at night, the arcades light up, and the bars and small shops become lively in a different way.Beihai · 508m from downtown

Beihai Golden Beach sits across from Bei Hai Silver Beach in the south of the city, and there is a local saying: "Silver Beach in the south, Golden Beach in the north." It is often confused with Wanwei Golden Beach in Dongxing, but they are actually two entirely different beaches. It is not as famous as Silver Beach, and its sand is not known for being fine and white. Instead, it is golden in color and slightly coarser. Under the sunlight, the entire beach glows with a golden hue, which is how it got the name "Golden Beach." This beach is more often a daily destination for locals. The beach is flat and calm, with boardwalks and viewing platforms along the shore. In the evening, the sunset dyes the sea and the beach in a golden hue. The phrase "Golden Beach sunset" has long been popular locally, and the time around sunset is particularly stunning here. A cluster of sea-view buildings with wave-shaped roofs spreads along the coastline, almost becoming the iconic backdrop of this beach. Located in an inner bay, the water quality here is not as clear as at Silver Beach, making it more suitable for taking walks, enjoying the sea breeze, and watching the sunset. It is said that the city name "Beihai" originated from Beihai Village, which is located next to this coast.Beihai · 3.3km from downtown

This hotel is perfect for a chill vacation. The ocean view is unbeatable and definitely worth returning to. The service is excellent, and the hotel feels like a small estate with great privacy. This is why I chose it. If I had to suggest something, I'd appreciate the addition of a high-definition projector with a retractable motorized screen. Also, I'd like to upgrade the hairdryer to a Dyson. Otherwise, it's practically perfect.

We took the Beihai International Passenger Port cruise ship to Weizhou Island, which took 80 minutes. We were in business class on the second floor, and the ride wasn't too bumpy. I didn't experience any seasickness. From Weizhou Island to Beihai, we took a slower ship, which took about 110 minutes; this time, we were in business class on the third floor. It was good value for money, a very pleasant experience, and the food on board wasn't expensive.

This scenic area was surprisingly less crowded. After taking the sightseeing bus to the drop-off point, you can walk along the boardwalk and enjoy the sea view and mangrove forest. I think it's even better than Silver Beach, which is far too crowded.

The price is much higher than that of Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden. The performance was still very good, including the fireworks display over the sea, but due to the weather, there was no drone show, and they wouldn't give a refund. This is a bad review.

I went to a paragliding base in the suburbs for an experience. The instructor was very experienced and explained everything clearly, from setting up the equipment to takeoff, so I wasn't nervous at all. After taking off, I could see the scenery of the entire valley, and the wind was blowing past my ears. It was very stable and not scary at all. After landing, the instructor would send me the video he had taken for free, with no extra charges. The experience was so enjoyable, much more fun than I had expected, and definitely worth a special trip to try.

I went to Beihai on a business trip and had some fun. I came to Qiaogang Style Street. The locals recommended it to me. They said that locals like to go there and the price is cheaper than the old street. The old street mainly does business with tourists, but here both locals and tourists go there. The whole street is full of food and drink. There are dessert shops, seafood restaurants, specialty shops, Vietnamese food, coffee shops, etc. It turns out that many seafood restaurants are open at night, especially those facing the port. They are closed at noon, but in the evening, they move tables out one after another. I heard that the sunset at the port is pretty beautiful, but I was too tired, so I didn't stay there until the sunset. I bought some specialty products at a specialty store here, and it feels okay.
