It's a very cost-effective travel pass. If you're not greedy and want to do a lot of things, but time permitting, a 2-day pass is better. You can easily visit a few places and use the subway unlimitedly, making it well worth the price. However, Osaka Castle requires a lot of walking if the weather is too hot, which might be tiring for the elderly and children. It also takes about 20 minutes to walk to the water bus stop. I visited at the end of June 2026.★

I stumbled upon this while looking for Universal Studios tickets, and I booked it because the benefits seemed great for traveling around Osaka city. I found the one-way Haruka train ticket from the airport to the city, the Universal Studios admission ticket, and one Express Pass particularly useful and great. It’s nice to be able to choose and use options according to your travel schedule. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't use all three Joy Passes because I was too tired from walking around so much, but it is definitely cheaper than paying for each item separately!! The travel content app is also convenient to use, and it’s great that I can view the voucher QR codes instantly through the app, which is helpful since I often need them at specific moments. I recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Universal Studios with a relaxed schedule of at least 3 nights and 4 days!★

During my recent trip to Kansai, I specifically used the "Kansai Amazing Pass," and overall, I found it to be a very worthwhile pass. However, there are a few things to keep in mind, which I'll share for those planning a trip.
In short, if you enjoy visiting attractions and plan to see 3-4 paid attractions a day, this pass will easily break even. However, if your itinerary is more relaxed and you prefer shopping or cafes, it might not be as cost-effective.
I mainly used it in Osaka, for places like the Umeda Sky Building's Floating Garden Observatory, Osaka Castle, and the Dotonbori sightseeing boat. These would normally require separate tickets, which can be quite expensive in the long run, but the pass allows you to redeem or enter almost everything directly, giving you a sense of "getting a good deal" and making you more willing to visit more places.
Using it is quite simple; most attractions only require showing a QR code for entry, eliminating the need to queue for tickets and saving a lot of time. For popular attractions, buying tickets on-site can sometimes involve queuing, but with the pass, you can usually use the fast track, which is a huge plus.
Another advantage of this pass, in my opinion, is that it "pushes you to go." Normally, if you buy individual tickets, you might skip some attractions because you think they're too expensive. But since you've bought the pass, you'll want to use all the facilities you can, resulting in visiting places you weren't initially interested in but found enjoyable after experiencing them.
However, the disadvantages are also quite obvious. First, the validity period is usually calculated in days (e.g., 1 or 2 days), and it's calculated continuously from the start date, so your itinerary must be very concentrated. Too much shopping or rest in between will waste the value of the pass.
Secondly, some popular attractions require advance reservations or have usage restrictions; you can't just go whenever you want. It's highly recommended to check the official information beforehand, otherwise you might easily miss out. Also, some attractions have limited redemption times (e.g., only during the day or certain hours), and if you're not careful, you might make a wasted trip.
Another point is the geographical distribution. Although it's called "Kansai," it's actually concentrated in Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and other areas. If your itinerary crosses cities but you don't have much time, the travel time will actually reduce the effectiveness of the pass.
Overall, I think the Kansai Amazing Pass is a ticket "suitable for travelers with busy schedules." If you're willing to get up early and visit more attractions, it's basically easy to get your money's worth or even get more value for your money; however, if you're on a more relaxed trip, I'd recommend buying individual tickets or choosing a few key attractions.
Before purchasing, I suggest you roughly add up the prices of the tickets for the attractions you want to visit and compare them with the pass price to better understand whether it suits you. With good planning, it can really make your Kansai trip more efficient and fulfilling.★
