Zha Ga Na

7.7
4.3/5

Zha Ga Na, also known as Zha Ga La, is located in Yiwa Town, Diebu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In Tibetan, the name means "stone box." Surrounding limestone cliffs enclose the area like natural city walls, and Tibetan-style wooden houses are arranged in tiers along the slopes, forming a unique stone-city Tibetan village view. In the 1920s, the Austrian-American botanist and explorer Joseph Rock visited and stayed here many times, marveling that it resembled "the birthplace of Adam and Eve." Zha Ga Na consists of four natural villages arranged sequentially from bottom to top—Dongwa Village, Yeri Village, Dari Village, and Daiba Village—connected by a winding road. At the entrance of Dongwa Village at the foot of the mountain stands a massive rock known as the Great Stone Gate, and the small hillside beside it is a vantage point for capturing low-angle panoramic shots of the village built along the mountain. At the higher elevation of the village sits Lasang Temple, a Gelug Tibetan Buddhist monastery originally built during the Shunzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, with its assembly hall and Guanyin Hall nestled among the rocky peaks. Following the road upward to Yeri Village, Tibetan villagers can often be seen working in the open highland barley fields nearby, and the village also has a "Rock's Cabin" homestay where visitors can stay. Continuing upward past Dari Village, there is a viewing platform with an expansive field of view that overlooks the entire village and the full face of the cliff behind it—the ancient wooden roofs and earthen-wall buildings are clearly layered within the surrounding precipices, making it an ideal spot for panoramic photography. In the early morning, clouds and mist often swirl among the cliffs, while at night the sky is filled with brilliant stars—two of the most recognizable natural scenes here. A walk of about one hour up the mountain behind Dongwa Village leads to a hilltop temple, and the Tibetan-style houses passed along the way retain traditional mortise-and-tenon wooden structures. There is another hiking route of about two days behind the mountain leading to stone forests and alpine lakes, with pristine scenery along the way, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts; it requires one night of camping, and you can rent a horse in the village and hire a groom to guide the way.

Tibetan Costume Experiences in Gannan

Tibetan Costume Experiences in Gannan

3.6

In the far northwest border, Gannan is like a lost pearl, emitting a mysterious and charming light. Put on Tibetan clothing and start a unique pastoral journey on the grassland. Buddhist country with rich heritage, Tibetan clothing treasures:Gannan, Tibetan Buddhism culture is prosperous, and Tibetan clothing has accumulated thousands of years of heritage here. Its Tibetan clothing strictly abides by traditional regulations, the fabric texture is heavy, and the warmth is good to resist the bitter cold of the plateau. The decoration is unique and ingenious, with auspicious religious patterns, such as the Eight Treasures, to show piety. Grassland scenery, Tibetan costumes add color: Wearing Tibetan costumes, galloping on the grassland, the green sea and colorful robes dance together, and the heroic spirit is overflowing; standing quietly in front of Labrang Monastery, the red walls and golden roofs set off the Tibetan costumes, which are simple and elegant, and the sense of history is overwhelming. There is also the Gahai Lake, where Tibetan costumes blend with the lake and mountains, showing the ethereal beauty, and there are scenes everywhere for taking photos. Skillful craftsmanship, immersive enjoyment:Local makeup artists in Gannan are well versed in the essence of Tibetan clothing, creating traditional makeup, appropriately smudged highland red, and twisted up characteristic hair to restore the classic charm. The photography team is a light and shadow catcher, skillfully using the grassland sunrise and the temple glow, with grassland, temples and lakes as the background, accurately freezing the amazing moment of the interweaving of Tibetan clothing and Gannan style. Coming to Gannan to experience Tibetan clothing is like opening a door to the mysterious Tibetan customs, and indulging in the charm of the blend of faith and nature.

Zhagana is unbelievably beautiful! Surrounded by rocky mountains, the Tibetan village is shrouded in mist in the mornings, like a thin veil draped over it. Standing on the viewing platform, you can see terraced fields stretching out, with yellow rapeseed flowers and green barley, set against the backdrop of shimmering snow-capped peaks in the distance—every snapshot is wallpaper-worthy. The air is filled with the scent of grass and cooking smoke, and yaks graze leisurely. It's so relaxing, you won't want to leave!

Fairy Beach is the jewel of the Zhagana Scenic Area. Some say it resembles Xinjiang, others say it resembles Switzerland, but in my opinion, Fairy Beach is unlike any other; it is uniquely beautiful. Here, you can leave behind all worldly troubles, experience a Tibetan homestay, watch a sunrise or sunset, or enjoy the novelty of travel photography, completely immersing yourself in a fairytale world that seems like a fairyland.

Standing before the Lazikou Battle Memorial Monument, gazing up at the monument, I was deeply moved. This was not only a formidable pass, a natural stronghold where "one man could hold off ten thousand," but also a crucial turning point in the Red Army's Long March. In September 1935, with astonishing courage and wisdom, the Red Army soldiers launched a frontal assault combined with a flanking maneuver along the cliff face, fighting a bloody battle for two days and nights, finally breaking through the Kuomintang army's heavy blockade and opening a vital passage for their northward march to resist the Japanese. The scenic area perfectly blends the rugged natural canyon with the profound history of the revolution. Strolling along the Lazikou River, looking at the narrow 8-meter-wide pass and the towering cliffs, one can almost hear the sounds of gunfire and shouts from that time. The monument, battle sites, and memorial hall silently recount that glorious era, allowing one to deeply appreciate the hard-won victory of the revolution.

The scenery is magnificent, with different views at different times of day. In the early morning, there is a thin mist, at noon you can appreciate the clear texture of the stone city and the fluttering prayer flags, and at dusk you can see the golden sunset over the mountains and the wisps of smoke rising from the chimneys. Every scene is like a poem or a painting.

This is the most representative light hiking route in Zhagana!!! There is no sign at the entrance of the scenic spot. Go down at the top of a big bend and there is a parking lot next to it. Don't listen to the unprofessional explanations of some online guides. This gully is a through loop. Once you enter, you can choose between the left and right directions. There is nothing to worry about. You can go either way. There are no forks in the road. Just walk boldly along the mountain road. It takes a total of 5.5 kilometers to walk around. The cumulative elevation increase is about 400 meters. The highest point is 3,350 meters above sea level. The scenery is very spectacular. The altitude back pressure is not great. It is much easier than the Yubeng Shen Waterfall Line. If you can't walk the whole way, it is recommended to go to the left. There is a plank road with a normal slope. You can turn back after walking 2 kilometers at the canyon waterfall. If you continue to move forward, please pay attention to the pair of mountains on the right side of Figure 2. The highest point of the wooden plank road is at the foot of the left peak. If you go to the right, you will start to climb the mountain, which is slightly steep. The difficulty is about the same as the last kilometer of the Yubeng Waterfall Line. If you want to see the magnificent stone mountain, you can choose to go to the right. Note that there is a small cement platform with a wooden railing before reaching the top. Just step over it and you can walk.

Standing on the Rock Observation Deck, it feels like being in a beautiful dream. In front of you, the beautiful scenery of Zhagana unfolds like a poem and a painting. The rolling mountains are like the gentle backbone of the earth, looming under the caress of the clouds, like a fairy in gauze, with a mysterious and charming charm. The morning sun penetrates the clouds, casting golden light, giving the green grass and the scattered Tibetan villages a layer of gold, like a silver ribbon, outlining a smart line on the earth.

This kind of scenery is called Fairy Lake. Because it is located in the northwest region, it has its own characteristics. Coupled with the natural effect, it makes many tourists have many associations after seeing it.
