Ganjia Grassland is an open alpine meadow and a traditional pasture where herders have grazed their livestock for generations. In midsummer, the grassland is lush green, with wildflowers spreading along the gentle slopes and herds of cattle and sheep scattered throughout. Compared to Sangke Grassland near the county seat, it receives fewer tourists and retains the more primitive and tranquil appearance of an alpine pasture. The grassland's distinctiveness largely comes from the Baishiya stretching across the end of the pasture — a gray-white cliff stretching over 10 km that stands like a screen above the greenery, with Baishiya Temple located at its foot. The Yangqu River and Yangla River meander across the grassland. The Bajiao Ancient City, built on the terrace where the Yangqu and Yangla rivers meet, is named for its eight corners. Ascend the viewing platform to take in the panoramic view of the ancient city, surrounding highland barley fields, and pastures. The grassland covers a large area with scattered attractions. Baishiya, Bajiao Ancient City, and Zuohai Temple are located in different directions, making it suitable for a self-drive or car charter tour along the route.Xiahe · 22km from downtown

Sangke Grassland is a meadow grassland on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an average altitude of over 3,000m and a grassland area of approx. 70 sq km. The grassland is surrounded by mountains, and the Daxia River winds its way from south to north. It is part of the Dajiutan Grassland in Sangke Town. "Dajiutan" means "horse-racing beach" in Tibetan and has traditionally been a natural pasture for Tibetan herders to graze livestock and race horses. The grassland is lush with green grass, wildflowers cover the gentle slopes, and white tents are scattered throughout. Horseback riding is a common experience here, usually with a groom leading the horse at a slow pace. Walking up the hillside behind the grassland, the grass is denser, wildflowers grow in patches, and the view is even more expansive. The pasture guesthouses on the grassland offer Tibetan food and tent stays. The plateau sky is clear at night, making it perfect for stargazing. The local Tibetan people have a tradition of the Xianglang Festival around the sixth lunar month, when herders set up tents on the grassland with their families to have picnics, sing, and dance the Guozhuang.Xiahe · 13.3km from downtown

Meiren Grassland has an altitude of over 3,000 m and is an alpine meadow grassland. Unlike common flat grasslands, the meadows here rise in mounds and stretch continuously, dotted with various small wildflowers. Herds of yaks and Tibetan sheep roam the grassland, which is also one of the main production areas for the local fine yak breed, the Meiren yak. Tents are often scattered across the grassy slopes, where you can see the daily scenes of herders grazing their livestock. The entire grassland stretches along the Heyi Highway from Hezuo to Yeliguan. You can slow down during your self-drive tour to view these rolling meadows, or easily connect to nearby scenic spots such as Kangduo Gorge and Lianhua Mountain.Hezuo · 29km from downtown

Deep in the mountains of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, lies a hidden gem – the Locke Road. This scenic highway encapsulates the essence of Gannan's landscape, where mountains embrace the land, forests, grasslands, and agricultural culture intertwine, showcasing a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Due to its high altitude and fragile ecosystem, some sections still retain their original gravel and washboard surfaces. Here, the weather is unpredictable; one can experience all four seasons in a single day. It is this raw wildness and unknown challenge that imbues every trek with awe. The scenery along the way is layered, from vast grasslands to rugged stone forests and canyons, and finally to towering snow-capped mountain passes. One can deeply feel the magnificent power of the plateau's nature. For travelers, it is a route for a profound experience of the culture and natural beauty of the Gannan Tibetan region.Zhuoni · 43.5km from downtown

The Guomang Wetland is 3,562 meters wide and is the birthplace and water conservation place of the Tao River, a larger tributary of the Yellow River. It is of great significance in the ecological conservation and water conservation of the Yellow River Basin. Guomang Wetland is the habitat of red-crowned cranes, so the local area built a red-crowned crane viewing platform in the middle of the wetland for the development of tourism. The statue of the red-crowned crane in the middle of the viewing platform is very stylish.Luqu · 35.1km from downtown

Lazikou is a transliteration of the Tibetan language, meaning "a dangerous mountain pass". This is a very dangerous canyon pass on the Ganchuan Ancient Road and the current Mindai Highway. Coming from the Tibetan area of snow-capped mountains and grasslands, crossing Lazikou is a plain Han area. Lazikou is surrounded by towering mountains, the gorge is as sharp as a knife, the Lazikou River rushes out of the gorge, and the two cliffs are densely forested. It is really a dangerous place where "one man guards the pass and ten thousand men cannot open it". On September 16, 1935, the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army entered the Lazikou area during the Long March. Through frontal assault and climbing cliffs and outflanking tactics, after fierce and bloody battles, at dawn on the 17th, they broke through the natural barrier guarded by heavy troops in one fell swoop, opening the Red Army's passage to the north to Shaanxi and Gansu.Diebu · 64.6km from downtown

Jiangdie Road is a highway in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, passing through Zhagulu Township, Niba Township, and Zhagana. Jiangdie Road concentrates the scenery of the transition zone between the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Loess Plateau. From snow-capped mountain passes, virgin forests, alpine meadows to ancient Tibetan villages and temples, every kilometer is like a flowing landscape scroll. The road sometimes passes through canyons and sometimes circles to passes. When the sea of clouds rolls in summer, the road is like a suspended sky road. In autumn and winter, the continuous limestone mountains are outlined with sharp lines by the snow. Jiangdie Road is a classic route for self-driving tourism in Gannan. It is the ecological corridor, tourism channel, industrial carrier, and harmonious grand garden of Gannan Prefecture. Its completion and opening to traffic have promoted the development of all-region tourism along the route, allowing more tourists to appreciate the beauty and culture of Gannan. As an economic artery running through the central part of Gannan Prefecture, Jiangdie Road is of great significance to strengthening the economic construction of ethnic minority areas in Gannan Prefecture, promoting the external circulation of agricultural and livestock products along the route, accelerating the development of characteristic and advantageous resources, and promoting high-quality economic and social development in the region.Zhuoni · 43.5km from downtown

Maqu First Bend of the Yellow River is located within Maqu County, Gannan. It is important to note that this attraction is not the Tangke Nine-Bend Yellow River Scenic Area that most tourists are familiar with, but rather the bend in the Yellow River next to theMaqu Yellow River Bridge. The first bend of the Yellow River spans over 500 km in total length and over 40 km in width, crossing four townships: Muxihe,Awancang, Qihama, andCairima, with the bend located inCairimaTownship. On this grassland of nearly 10,000 square kilometers, mountains stand tall, snow-capped peaks rise high, pastures are vast, and the water and grass are lush. In addition to producing the famous Hequ horses, Oula sheep, and rainbow trout, it is also home to many precious wild animals. What is truly amazing is that 120 km west of Maqu County, there is a place called Ximeiduohetang. Every mid-July, the entire grassland is covered with small flowers called golden lotus. Looking out, it stretches for dozens of kilometers, a dazzling golden sight that catches the eye. By August, the golden lotus flowers quietly fade away, replaced by sky-blue gentians that bloom everywhere, turning the entire grassland into a sea of blue—poetic, picturesque, and rare in this world.Maqu · 4km from downtown

The Sangke Grassland is absolutely worth visiting on a good day! Under the blue sky and white clouds, the entire grassland is as green as an endless velvet carpet. Sunlight streams in, and cattle and sheep graze leisurely on the grass in the distance—a scene both clean and soothing. The wind carries the scent of fresh grass, and the view is incredibly expansive; every snapshot is a masterpiece. On a clear day, the sky is a crystal-clear blue, and the clouds are so low they seem almost within reach, creating a stunning contrast with the green grassland—no filter is needed. Strolling through it, you completely relax, leaving the hustle and bustle of the city far behind.

This high-altitude grassland, characterized by frost-covered hills and small grassy mounds, sits at an altitude of 3600m. In June, wildflowers such as the alpine meconopsis bloom across the grassland, creating a stunningly beautiful scene. Highly recommended!

When we were crossing the Sangke grassland, we passed by the Guomang Wetland and stopped to take a look. We first walked along a long plank road and saw another wetland in front of us. The ordinary scenery looked particularly beautiful under the bright sunshine, and it was a good place to take pictures.

The scenery is magnificent, with different views at different times of day. In the early morning, there is a thin mist, at noon you can appreciate the clear texture of the stone city and the fluttering prayer flags, and at dusk you can see the golden sunset over the mountains and the wisps of smoke rising from the chimneys. Every scene is like a poem or a painting.

The Jiangdie Highway starts from Zhagulu Town in Zhuoni County, Gannan Prefecture, Gansu Province, and leads to Zhagana Village in Diebu County, covering a distance of approximately 100-110 kilometers. It is also known as the Rock Road because American explorer Joseph Rock traveled this route in the early 20th century and remarked, "I have never seen such magnificent scenery in my life." The scenery along the way includes alpine meadows, forest valleys, ancient coniferous forests shrouded in mist, and the Fairy Beach in Zhagana is a must-see hidden gem. Tibetan Buddhist monasteries such as Gongsi Temple and the Milarepa Buddha Pavilion in Hezuo County are also available for visit.
