University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge has 31 colleges, almost blending into the city of Cambridge. Newton, Darwin, and Hawking once studied here, with over a hundred Nobel laureates associated with the university. Xu Zhimo attended a study tour at King's College in his early years, and his poem "Saying goodbye to Cambridge again" made the city memorable for many Chinese readers. In his later years, Jin Yong also returned here to pursue his doctoral degree. The colleges were built in different periods, each with its own architectural style, but most retain their medieval charm. The porches and walls of the school buildings are still adorned with simple yet solemn statues and seals, making the visit truly delightful. Some of the colleges popular among travelers includeKing's College, Trinity College, St. John's College, Queen's College, Peterhouse, Christ's College, Clare College, etc. Travelers can choose several colleges of interest to visit in sequence, but they need to check their opening hours in advance. To enjoy the scenery along both banks of the River Cam, punting is a classic activity. You can find boarding spots near Silver Street or Bridge Street. The small boats pass beneath bridges like the Mathematical Bridge at Queen's College with its wooden slats and the covered Bridge of Sighs at St John's College, gliding past the back gardens of King's College, Trinity College, and St John's College. The spires of King's College Chapel and the lawns reflect on the river, evoking the poetic imagery of "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again." By the riverside in King's College's back garden stands a stone tablet inscribed with Xu Zhimo's verses. You can either try punting yourself or board a boat guided by a punter who will share stories about the architecture and bridges along the way.Cambridge · 40.3km from Bedford

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is the actual filming location for all eight films in the "Harry Potter" series. After filming wrapped, the production team preserved a large number of original sets, props, and costumes, displaying them to the public across two purpose-built soundstages and a backlot. Visitors can step into iconic scenes such as the Great Hall of Hogwarts, Dumbledore's office, and the Gryffindor common room, board the original Hogwarts Express at Platform 9¾, stroll through Diagon Alley and Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and also see up close landmark sets including the Knight Bus, the Weasley family's flying Ford Anglia, and Hagrid's hut. In addition to scene recreations, this place also reveals the behind-the-scenes secrets of film effects and prop production, including animatronic creatures and special makeup techniques, allowing visitors to understand how the visual magic from page to screen is achieved. During the tour, you can taste Butterbeer at the backlot, and the entire visit is a self-guided walking experience, so it is recommended to set aside about three to four hours to savor it in detail. Unlike replica sets at other theme parks, this location preserves the original props and sets actually used in the films, offering a unique appeal for Harry Potter fans. △Arriving at the set of "Harry Potter" △Get up close with original magic props from the film series △Take a photo with your favorite scene △Walking tour of the filming locations and behind-the-scenes stories from the movie seriesWatford · 49.8km from Bedford

The British Museum

4.8/5
3.7k reviews
The British Museum's collection spans artifacts from civilizations across the world, with a total of approx. 8 million items, covering regions including ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and Rome, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. The museum has approx. 60 permanent galleries, and the items on display represent only a very small fraction of the total collection, with its ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek and Roman, and Asian collections being particularly renowned. The south facade of the main building features an Ionic colonnade, and the main entrance is topped by a sculpted pediment. Entering through the main entrance leads into the Great Court, a public space designed by Norman Foster with a white color scheme, where the massive semi-transparent glass roof ensures ample natural light even on London's overcast days. The Great Court was originally part of the British Library; after the library relocated, it was converted into a covered plaza, and the court displays authentic sculptures including a stone statue from Easter Island. The Rosetta Stone bears a decree of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh inscribed in three scripts, serving as the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian civilization and ranking among the museum's most notable exhibits. The Elgin Marbles are sculptural fragments from the Parthenon, dating back over two thousand years, and are now displayed in Room 18. The Portland Vase is renowned for its dark blue glass and white cameo relief decoration, displayed in Room 70. The Tang dynasty copy of Admonitions of the Instructress to the Court Ladies survives with nine scenes and holds significant artistic and historical value, though it is not on permanent display. The Chinese collection is concentrated in Rooms 33, 33b, and 95, arranged chronologically by dynasty with artifacts ranging from Shang and Zhou bronzes to Ming and Qing porcelain, among which the Song dynasty Cizhou ware "circus pillow" and the Yuan dynasty blue-and-white dish with fish and aquatic plant design are particularly worth a closer look. The ancient Egyptian galleries are famous for their mummy exhibits and are among the most visited areas in the museum.London · 72.5km from Bedford

Ruined by the aggressive security, we had an awful experience here and Wrest Park and English Heritage decided not to take responsibility and did not reply to me despite several emails sent via the webpage, direct emails to the park and English Heritage and a letter to them. Shameful! And the reviews on this page are full of investment scammers which proves they don't even monitor the reviews

Having visited the Harry Potter studios in Tokyo before, I was familiar with the earlier parts. The difference was that the London studio included an exhibit on Gringotts Castle, and during our visit, there were some Death Eater performances, which were quite entertaining. Finally, the entire Hogwarts Castle wasn't just an exhibit; it also featured a light and shadow show. If I were to personally recommend visiting the Harry Potter studios for the first time, I'd suggest going to London. Firstly, the language is more familiar to Chinese people, and secondly, there's more interaction. Also, in terms of transportation, it's a 20-minute walk from Uston Station to Watford Junction Station, where there's a free shuttle bus to the studios, which is very convenient.

We arrived at the Bridge of Sighs unexpectedly 🤺 We arrived at the Mathematical Bridge unexpectedly 🫆 (return trip) Because I was traveling alone, I was grouped with 5 other people (seats reversed) The weather was great, and the gondolier provided commentary in English the whole time. He even recited the poem "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again" unexpectedly 🤣 Qianmo Transportation 14:00-14:45 Everyone's rowing skills were top-notch! Hopefully next time I can get a better view.

My visit to the British Museum was completely transformed by Diana's guide. She didn't just introduce the exhibits; she connected the scattered artifacts into a coherent narrative of world history. From the Rosetta Stone's code and the controversy surrounding the Parthenon reliefs, to the Mesopotamian cuneiform and the historical context behind Oriental porcelain, her explanations were engaging, logically sound, vivid, and insightful. Dry history was no longer just cold text; each artifact came alive with a vibrant background. Her pace was comfortable, and she patiently answered our diverse questions. Three hours was incredibly enriching. Highly recommended! If you want to truly understand the artifacts at the British Museum, you absolutely must see her!
