The Tea and Horse Road of Southwest China, aka the " Silk Road of Southwest China" – but called Chamagudao in Chinese (cha-ma-gu-dao = Tea-Horse-Ancient-Road) – is an old trade route that stretched east to west and south to north across southwest China. This ancient trade routes eventually came to be renowned for the two main commodities for which the routes were named: tea and horses, though there were other important commodities such as sugar and salt – but curiously, not silk – that were traded along these routes. Our own Tea Horse Road adventure began in the township of Pu'er, approximately 400 kilometers south of Kunming. The excursion passed through some of the mountains and steep valleys that are signatures of the Yunnan landscape. Eventually, the corn and wheat along the roadside gave way to bananas, rubber and, eventually, tea.

Obviously, Pu'er is known for its famous tea and the tea-growing areas around it. Therefore, any visit to the city wouldn't be complete without a stop here at the Pu'er Tea Museum. We wanted to learn more about this important commodity, so this museum provided us with the answers. We learned about the various local ethnic groups and their relationships with tea, the history of the local area and the Tea Horse Road and also about the process of making the teas. We went here in the morning and admission was free. The staff were also very nice and polite. Getting here is easy by taxi or private car, although it was basically next to our hotel anyway. It's definitely best to come here and learn about the history before visiting a plantation or the Tea Horse Road, as it definitely adds a perspective on everything and enbables you to better understand everything. Exploring Pu'er...🤗

The ancient town at Tea Horse Road is relatively easy to get to by taxi or private car, as Pu'er is a small place and this is easy to find. Arriving here, we took a nice stroll along the canal and through the scenic old town area, stopping for iced coffee and lunch also. Prices are not expensive here, even though this is considered a tourist site. The buildings were great to look at, as well as the old ancient walls that are built around the old town. We came just before Chinese New Year, therefore the place wasn't that busy, especially in the afternoon we visited. If you are in Pu'er, then it's definitely a place to visit along with the tea museum and seeing a plantation. You should go to the tea museum first and learn about the history of this place before visiting, as it enables you to appreciate the historical perspective of this place. 🍵👘😋 #tripblazers #tea #yunnan #tigeryear2022

2 days in puer!

Getting There - after going to xishuangbanna, we took the high speed train which took 20minutes to puer. the trains run all day at intervals of 20-40minutes. Attractions - The biggest tourist attraction in Puer is tea! as you come into the city, you’ll see that the landscape is filled with rolling hills all filled with tea trees. when in puer, highly recommended to visit a tea plantation where you can learn, pick and make your own tea. Specifically the puer expo garden centre. on the second day we went to the horse road which is 10 mins away from city centre. before going into the ancient road entrance, you’ll pass by charma ancient town which is a cute town filled with trinkets you can buy. the horse road is a beautiful mountain where you can see a nice view of the city and learn about the tea trade routes people used to make. It's November again, and the temperature is slowly dropping. 🍂 In just two months, the annual Spring Festival migration will be upon us again. 🧨 Where to go is a headache for everyone. 🧐 Yunnan is a popular winter destination for people all over the country. 👫 The crowds during the Spring Festival are sure to be overwhelming. 🔥 We won't talk about the usual places like Kunming, 💐 Dali, and Xishuangbanna. 🌴 Everyone knows about them. There's another relatively niche place that few people visit, and it's warm during the Spring Festival. 🌞 It's also a fun place to visit - Pu'er. 🍵 In Pu'er, you must stay at this amazing hotel! 👍 *Hotel name: Deting Boutique Hotel (Chama Ancient City). Check-in experience: The staff are very warm and polite. 😌 The bed in the room is super soft, and the shower gel and shampoo are not cheap at all. 🥰 They smell great. 😍 The toothbrush and comb are also very useful, and there are 4 bottles of water, original and coconut coffee. ☕ Every aspect is very thoughtful and attentive. ◆ Breakfast also includes freshly ground Yunnan small-grain coffee, which I love! Na Ke Li Ancient Tea Horse Road|||Na Ke Li Ancient Tea Horse Road is located in Ning'er, about a 30-minute drive from Pu'er City. The entire scenic area can be explored in 1 hour. Admission is free, but parking is charged. There are not many people during the off-season, and cars seem to be able to drive into the scenic area, or you can eat at the shops at the entrance and park temporarily. Photo 2 is a detailed route map, follow it and you won't go wrong, no need to backtrack. Don't go any further when you reach the Millennium Bridge, just cross the bridge to the North Zhai Gate, and walk along the boardwalk to the parking area on the highway. There are not many people during the off-season, and many shops are not open, but it is quiet and nice, worth a look and a stroll. There are some snacks, we bought glutinous rice cakes, 1 yuan each, with filling, not bad.

Pu'er | Taiyanghe Forest Park: Pet a rhinoceros and see red pandas.

Red pandas are so cute! Petting a rhinoceros is also a special experience. Rhinoceroses are really stable animals! There are not many tourists in the park, so it's very comfortable to walk around. 🔍 Search for "Taiyanghe Forest Park" on the map It takes about 1 hour to drive here from Pu'er city. You will pass some coffee plantations on the way. If you are interested in coffee, you can visit them. The park is open until 18:00, and you can't enter after 16:00. If you come too late, you will miss some animals. 🅿️ Parking information Parking fee: CNY 3/2 hours for small cars, CNY 1/2 hours for motorcycles 🎫 Ticket (including battery car): CNY 100/person We booked group tickets at the B&B. You need to go to the office on the left of the ticket office to get the receipt and then go to the ticket office to get the ticket. It is recommended to take the battery car, otherwise the park is too big and there is nothing to see on the road. You can also choose not to take the car, or only take a one-way trip (CNY 30/person, round trip CNY 50/person). 🗺 Tour route I want to praise the park planning, which is clearer than most scenic spots. Take the battery car to the end, start walking back, and finally return to the "transfer station" to wait for the car back to the gate. It's very clear, a single route, you won't get lost. 1⃣️ After checking the ticket, go up a staircase to take the battery car. There are small shops and cultural and creative shops here. The commemorative coins are very cute, you can buy one. 2⃣️ The battery car is sent to the end, passing through the Red Panda Manor Hotel and the Wild Deer Herd Activity Area without stopping. After arriving at the end, get off and walk. All interactive projects with animals are CNY 20/person, with clear prices. 3⃣️ The first animal you see is a rhinoceros. You can interact with the rhinoceros: feed and touch. 4⃣️ Then there are sika deer, raccoons, and squirrel monkeys, all of which are wild and may come to you at any time. 5⃣️ Then there are raccoon dogs (they are actually cats), and then there are insect reptiles on display. 6⃣️ Behind is the plant area and fish (mainly arowana), there are also many birds in the wetland, and black bears are also open. 7⃣️ Because it was too late, I didn't see the white-browed gibbon. 8⃣️ The key point is the red panda! Maybe because it's too late, I only saw a red panda, but it's cute enough! 9⃣️ Finally, there are some fruits and agricultural products, which can be purchased by scanning the code. 📢 Precautions 1⃣️ Animals love quietness.
