Sapporo Clock Tower
The Sapporo Clock Tower was constructed in the 19th century and is still an important symbol and landmark in Sapporo. It is the oldest building in Sapporo and the oldest clock tower in Japan. Because Americans helped develop the area at that time, the design and architecture of the building are of colonial American style. We were able to walk to the clock tower from Sapporo station in under twenty minutes, and there were lots of tourists there. It is a good place to learn some of the history of Sapporo. The admission fee is 200yen per person.

Sapporo Clock Tower 🇯🇵
The Clock Tower (時計台, Tokeidai) is a symbol of Sapporo. The building was constructed during the early period of Sapporo's development in 1878 as a drill hall of the Sapporo Agricultural College. In 1881 a clock purchased from Boston was installed.
Today, the Clock Tower serves as a museum with displays about the building's history and Sapporo on the first floor. On the second floor are displays about the clock and a spacious ceremony hall that calls to mind the simple buildings of the colonial American Midwest.
Access:
The Clock Tower is four blocks or a ten minute walk south of JR Sapporo Station, and one block north of Odori Park.
Admission fee: 200 yen

Spporo Clock Tower
Sapporo Clock Tower is a wooden structure and tourist attraction, located at Chuo ku, Sapporo. It’s just short walking distance from Odori park, mostly people will visit in day time but I find its nicer at night. As of 2021, this tower is the oldest clock tower in Japan.
If you did not read about the place earlier you will not be able to realise that it’s clock tower as it looks like a church to me. But you must be amazed by the maintenance, well maintain even its woods.
The Tower was built in 1878 so it has withstand long time which is one of the earliest built and also now oldest standing in Sapporo.

Sapporo Clock Tower is one of the attractions in the city. I like how they preserve this old historic agricultural college. The staff workers here are very friendly and accommodating. Several restaurants around the clock tower too. Great place to take photos as well. #wintergetaway

Speaking of tourist attractions in Sapporo, the Sapporo Clock Tower is one of the city's top attractions, so I stopped by on the second day of my trip to Sapporo.
The Sapporo Clock Tower, which has been around for 130 years, is officially called the "Former Sapporo Agricultural College Drill Hall."
Sapporo Agricultural College is the predecessor of Hokkaido University and opened in 1876 with the aim of training leaders for the development of Hokkaido.
The drill hall was built in 1878 as a central auditorium for military training, entrance ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, and other events for agricultural school students, based on the opinion of Dr. Clark.
I was surprised to learn that there was no clock tower when the school opened, and that it was added later at the instruction of the governor who attended the completion ceremony.
It is lit up at night, making it a very fantastic sight.

Visitors to Sapporo will find a city designed with wide, tree-lined streets and open spaces, reflecting its relatively recent development compared to other Japanese cities. The city center is home to Odori Park, a long green space that hosts various festivals throughout the year, including the famous Sapporo Snow Festival. The historic Sapporo Clock Tower and the modern Sapporo TV Tower offer glimpses into the city's past and present.

Winter sports enthusiasts will find Sapporo a haven, with nearby ski resorts such as Niseko offering world-class skiing and snowboarding. The Sapporo Snow Festival, held every February, transforms the city into a winter wonderland with intricate ice sculptures and snow statues that draw visitors from around the globe.
Beer lovers should not miss the Sapporo Beer Museum, where they can learn about the history of one of Japan’s oldest and most famous beer brands and enjoy tastings. For a culinary adventure, a visit to the Nijo Market provides an opportunity to savor Hokkaido’s renowned seafood, including fresh crab, sea urchin, and salmon roe.

Interesting for history as it is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Sapporo. Built in 1878 designed by American architect William Wheeler and is a blend of Victorian and Romanesque architectural styles. It stands at a height of 41.4 meters with a distinctive red brick exterior.
Such wonderful and friendly staff/guides, who are eager to provide a welcoming experience to introduce the history of Sapporo!. This Western-style wooden structure is the oldest clock tower in Japan and the symbol of Sapporo City. It is still functional more than 140 years later.

Sapporo City Clock Tower
It is about a 10-minute walk from the south exit of Sapporo Station.
It is a building with a distinctive exterior with a large clock on the triangular roof, and is a nationally designated important cultural property that has been marking time for about 130 years.
Currently, the first floor is an exhibition room, and the second floor is a rental hall.
The red star symbol of the Sapporo Development Commission is also designed, and if you look closely, you can also see what looks like a chimney on the roof. This is a symbolic building of Sapporo City, which is also used as the design for the city's country sign.

Sapporo Clock Tower
#thingstodo Today marks the beginning of my adventure in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, on January 7, 2024. The charming winter scenery creates a welcoming atmosphere, transforming it into a true wonderland in this iconic Sapporo Clock Tower. The snow enhances the beauty of the surroundings, making it an extraordinary experience. Even during other seasons like summer, autumn, or spring, Sapporo has its unique charm. Although it may seem ordinary at first glance, being here in the perfect winter season earns it a top rating in my book.
Entrance fee of 200 yen if you want to see around inside the building and get to know its history.

The Clock Tower is well worth a visit. Inside there is an exhibit about the building and education in Sapporo. You can see the clock mechanism and take a photo with the famous educator Dr. Clark. A pamphlet has the English translations of the exhibit labels. The entrance fee is 200 yen only!
Don't miss this out in your Sapporo trip. I want to come back here in 2024.

There is no chance that we will miss this must-see location in Sapporo; the Sapporo Clock Tower. It is said to have been constructed last 1881 when Sapporo was still in its early development. I really love old stuff like this. Makes me happy seeing all of these buildings survive through the years. It is just in walking distance from JR Sapporo Sapporo Station and Odori Park.
