Day 3 Baoduzhai->Bailu Hot Spring

The ancient city of Zhengding is located 15 kilometers north of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province. It is a city built by traditional Chinese planning ideas and architectural styles. It concentrates the historical and cultural characteristics of China from the 5th to the 19th century AD, and is the crystallisation of the wisdom and perseverance of the ancient working people. Historically, it was known as one of the "Three Great Towns in the North" together with Baoding and Beijing. To this day, a stone plaque with the words "Three Great Towns" is still embedded on the south city gate. Zhengding is the hometown of Zhao Zilong, a famous general of the Three Kingdoms period. The long history has left the ancient city with splendid and unique cultural sites and historical sites, which are famous for "three invisible mountains, nine unflowing bridges, nine buildings, four pagodas, eight large temples and twenty-four high-quality squares". "Three mountains are missing" means that in history, Zhengding was the seat of Zhongshan Kingdom, Hengshan County and Changshan County, but there are no mountains in Zhengding. "Nine bridges without water" refers to the single-arch three-way stone bridge in front of Longxing Temple, and the Pan Bridge in front of the main hall of the prefectural Confucian Temple and the county Confucian Temple (the ancient Pan Bridges were in the shape of three bridges in parallel), but no running water flows through any of them. "Nine towers, four pagodas and eight large temples" refers to the four gate towers, four corner towers and Yanghe Tower in the original city; the four pagodas are Lingxiao Pagoda, Hua Pagoda, Xumi Pagoda and Chengling Pagoda; the eight large temples are Longxing Temple, Guanghui Temple, Linji Temple, Kaiyuan Temple, Tianning Temple, Hongji Temple, Shari Temple and Chongyin Temple. The last three temples have been destroyed. "In the past, Zhengding had 24 magnificent memorial archways, such as the Xu Family Memorial Archway, the Liang Family Memorial Archway, the Changshan Ancient County, the Holy Virtue Tongtian, the Virtue Pei Tiandi, and the Wooden Bell for All Things. However, due to the changes in history, wind and rain, and especially the ten-year turmoil of the Cultural Revolution, many precious cultural relics were destroyed. However, judging from the existing 9 nationally protected cultural relics, 6 provincially protected cultural relics, and more than 10 county protected cultural relics, Zhengding is still a historical and cultural city. The ancient city of Zhengding was listed as a provincial historical and cultural city in 1990 and a historical and cultural city in 1994. Zhengding's tourism has the characteristics of "both new and ancient" and "both elegant and popular". Among the scenic spots and historical sites, Longxing Temple, which was built in the sixth year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (586 AD), was enlarged and conferred by Zhao Kuangyin, the founding emperor of the Song Dynasty. It was built in 1917 and is majestic and well-preserved. It enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad and is praised by ancient architecture expert Liang Sicheng as "the first famous temple outside Beijing". The "upside-down Guanyin" wall sculpture in the temple was called "the Oriental Goddess of Beauty" by Mr. Lu Xun. The "Turning Wheel of Scriptures" is called a model of the operation of Newton's laws by physicists, as well as China's Sutra Cabinet. The Sui Longzang Temple Stele is one of the more well-known ancient steles in China. Its font is an example of the evolution from Han Li to Tang Kai. It was once praised by Kang Youwei as "the first Sui stele"; there is also a 22-meter-high Buddha, which is the earliest and tallest bronze standing Buddha in my country; the cross-shaped "Mani Temple" is built using typical Song Dynasty construction techniques. There are four famous towers around Zhengding. The Hua Tower of Guanghui Temple is a clever combination of the Diamond Tower and the Flower Tower. The Lingxiao Tower of Tianning Temple It is the first wooden pagoda in my country. The symmetrical construction method of the Tang Dynasty bell tower and the ancient pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple is an example of the transition of the architectural pattern of Buddhist temples in my country from pagoda-centred to temple-centred. The Chengling Pagoda of Linji Temple is the pagoda of Master Yixuan, the founder of the Linji School of Buddhism. It has become a witness and bond of friendship between China and Japan. The Rongguo Mansion, located in Zhengding City, was designed and built in full accordance with the description in Cao Xueqin's famous novel "Dream of Red Mansions" and strictly by China's "Da Qing Hui Dian". It is the first antique building complex in my country with the architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Most of the scenes of the large-scale TV series "Dream of Red Mansions" were filmed here. "Ningrong Street", a Qing Dynasty street at the west suburb gate of Rongguo Mansion, is more than 200 meters long. The important scenes in the TV series "Dream of Red Mansions" ", Yuan "The Concubine's Visit to Her Parents" and "Qin Keqing's Funeral" were all filmed on this street. Zhengding Ancient City Wall Editor's Voice Zhengding Ancient City has a history of more than 1,600 years. It was built of earth in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, stone in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, expanded into an earth city in the Tang Dynasty, and changed to a brick city with a circumference of 24 li after the expansion in the Ming Dynasty. The existing Zhengding city wall is a relic of the Ming Dynasty, and the remaining city wall is 8,106 meters. The four city gates are the most magnificent buildings in the Zhengding city wall. The east one is called Yingxu, which was later changed to Huancui, the south one is called Changle, the west one is called Zhenyuan, and the north one is called Yong'an. After years of erosion, the west and north gates have lost their former style. The east gate was completely covered by national defence fortifications in the 1960s. Previously, the south city gate tower and the 50-meter-long city wall on both sides called on the people to donate old city bricks and invested 3.99 million yuan to restore them in 2001.

evaluate:

Stepping into the ancient city of Zhengding feels like travelling through thousands of years. The ancient city walls tell of the vicissitudes of history; the majesty of Longxing Temple and the uniqueness of Hua Pagoda are amazing. Wander on the streets, taste the eight big bowls and steamed dumplings, and feel the charm of intangible cultural heritage on your tongue. The ancient city is brightly lit at night, and the night view of Rongguo Mansion is like a dream. The ancient city of Zhengding is a feast of culture and food that will make you linger.

The Zhengding Historical and Cultural Street District is 1,500 meters long and houses three national key cultural relics protection sites built in the Tang Dynasty: the Hua Pagoda of Guanghui Temple, the Chengling Pagoda of Linji Temple and the Bell Tower of Kaiyuan Temple, as well as the restored Changlemen Ancient City, one of the "Three Great Passes". It is a street with the highest concentration of historical and cultural relics in the country.

evaluate:

Zhengding Historical and Cultural Street is one of the most famous attractions in Zhengding. There are a lot of people here, all of whom come to take photos and check in. It is quite nice. There are many local speciality noodles, steamed buns, etc., on both sides. It’s especially delicious. Hey-hey. Free attractions, very cost-effective. I'll come again next time.

Hebei Museum, formerly known as Hebei Provincial Museum, is located in the central area of Shijiazhuang City and is a comprehensive museum at the provincial level in Hebei Province. The museum houses a large number of precious cultural relics, mainly treasures unearthed from the Mancheng Han Tombs, cultural relics from the Yanzhao period, famous ancient porcelain and kilns in Hebei, and cultural relics from the Hebei Anti-Japanese War. The number and level of exhibits are among the best in museums across the country. It is an excellent place to learn about the history of Hebei and should not be missed when travelling to Shijiazhuang.

Address: No. 4 East Street, Chang'an District, Shijiazhuang City

Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 and get off at Museum Station. It is within walking distance.

Business hours: Open from 09:00 to 17:00 tomorrow (no admission at 16:30)

evaluate:

It is the most worthwhile place to visit in Shijiazhuang! The Hebei Museum is quite large, divided into the South Area and the North Area, which are connected by a Sunshine Corridor. The museum's treasures are specially placed in an exhibition hall for tourists to view, which is great. The design of each exhibition hall is very interesting, and it would take three or four hours to explore it in detail. Drinking water is also provided in the corridor, which is great. If you don’t have enough time, you can focus on the second floor, where all the highlights are.

The Longquan Ancient Town Scenic Area is located in Luquan District, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. It is located in the heart of the North China Plain. It was rated as one of the "Top Ten Cultural Industry Projects in Hebei Province in 2020" and has a total area of 948 acres. The ancient town buildings are a large cluster of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China, which were reorganized and rebuilt in a different location, including a set of old houses, old doors, old bridges, old stone carvings and other old objects with a history of more than 100 years collected from all over the country over more than 30 years. It has extremely high social value for studying architecture, folk customs, and marriage customs during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. It has played a positive role in the inheritance, protection and development of culture.

Address: Southeast side of the intersection of Huaian West Road and Shanqian Avenue, Luquan District, Shijiazhuang City

Opening hours: 10:00-22:00

evaluate:

It is a quaint and distinctive town with many snacks in the park, and there are many shows to watch, which are also quite good. It is good and recommended! Suitable for friends who travel by car, the scenic area is easy to park and no parking fee is charged!

Baoduzhai is not a village, but the general name of a mountain. Baoduzhai is located to the west of Shijiazhuang city. The slope of the whole mountain is very steep, but there is a large area of flat ground on the top of the mountain, so the ancients built a military camp on the top of the mountain. When visiting Baoduzhai, you can go to the top of the mountain to visit ancestral halls, temples and other cultural relics; you can also go hiking to exercise and see the undulating mountains and lush trees. It is a good place for hiking, outings and visiting ancient sites near Shijiazhuang.

Address: Intersection of Taipinghe North Road and Guanjing Street, Luquan District, Shijiazhuang City

Opening hours: 08:00-17:30 (no admission after 16:30)

evaluate:

The scenic area is very good, and the entrance fee is only charged at Nantianmen. If you don't go to see the Ten Thousand Buddha Caves and just want to hike and enjoy the scenery, the first half is free. The Wanfo Caves are quite shocking. You are not allowed to take photos in the cave. The last photo is a promotional poster of the scenic spot. It is no exaggeration 👍 A section of the Great Wall was closed during the May Day holiday. Generally speaking, the second half of the tour, which requires admission, is more humanistic, including cave carvings, statues, murals, etc. It is very good to have a deeper understanding of the meaning before visiting. Recommended🌷

It has convenient transportation and pleasant scenery. You may wish to visit it together.

evaluate:

There are many types of hot springs, both outdoor and indoor. The water temperature is very comfortable, and the environment is also very good. There are not many people on holiday, so it can be regarded as a private hot spring. Highly recommended.
