Fukuoka Four-Day, Three-Night Trip Review This four-day, three-night trip to Fukuoka truly embodied the essence of "eating, drinking, and having fun." Our first stop was Ichiran Ramen's main restaurant. While there are branches in Taiwan, the atmosphere at Ichiran Ramen is completely different. From the moment I ordered, it felt like a pilgrimage. The broth was still rich and fragrant, leaving me satisfied until the last sip. A cultural tour was essential during the day, and a visit to Kushida Shrine was a must. The shrine is especially peaceful in the early morning, its solemn atmosphere allowing one to temporarily let go of the excitement and rush of travel and quietly pray for safety and success. Next, we ventured into the common people's stomachs and headed to the original Nagahamaya. Their ramen is simple yet unpretentious, open 24 hours a day. Sitting down with a bowl of piping hot noodles is like breathing in the city. As night falls, Fukuoka transforms completely. The night view of Fukuoka Tower illuminates the seaside skyline. Walking into the Tenjin and Nakasu yatai, the warmth of the people fills the stalls one after another, where yakitori, oden, ramen, and the aroma of sake blend together – this is the truest Fukuoka nightlife. The next day, we made a special trip to Nagahama Fish Market. Unlike the touristy crowds, it's a place where you can experience the daily bustle of local life. Kushida Shrine is an old Shinto shrine in the heart of Fukuoka that is the heart of the Hakata community. Founded in 757, it is notable for its tall torii gate and lush greenery, surrounded by thousand-year-old ginkgo trees and peaceful gardens. It is a great place to stop and pray for health and business, as well as try lifting the sacred stone “Chikara Ishi”, which is said to boost morale. [Hakata Gion Yamakasa] is a traditional event with over 700 years of history that takes place every July in Hakata, Fukuoka. The highlight is the sight of people carrying the majestic Yamakasa on their backs as they run through the streets of Hakata. The Oi Yamakasa is a powerful event held in the early morning of July 15th, the day of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. The sight of people carrying heavy Yamakasa while shouting bravely gives a sense of the local bond and tradition. Even if you can't make it to the Oi Yamakasa, the decorated Yamakasa will be on display in various places around the city for a limited time during the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. The decorated Yamakasa is not a Yamakasa that is carried and run, but is a Yamakasa that is displayed without moving, and about 10 decorated Yamakasa are set up in Hakata's shopping streets, in front of the station, etc. It can be up to 10 meters tall and is very gorgeous! The local people affectionately call it "Okushida-san". Although this shrine is small, it is full of Hakata's style and humor, and is a tourist attraction worth visiting. Kushida Shrine is a historic shrine located in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. It is the general guardian of Hakata and the venue for famous festivals such as the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. I went to Kushida Shrine in July this year and witnessed the spectacular scene of Hakata Gion Yamakasa with my own eyes, and also felt the devotion and enthusiasm of the people of Hakata towards the shrine. This is a traditional folk event held every July, in which men from all over Hakata form teams and run through the streets pushing beautifully decorated yamakasa (a bamboo structure over 10 meters high) to show their respect and gratitude to Kushida Okami. There are two types of Yamagasa: decorated Yamagasa and chased Yamagasa. The former is a giant Yamagasa fixed on the streets or in the Kushida Shrine for people to admire, and the latter is a small movable Yamagasa that is carried on the shoulders or pushed on the ground by team members. July 1st to 14th every year is the time for the display of the decorated Yamakasa, and July 15th is the day for the Yamakasa chasing competition, which is also the climax of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. In the early morning of that day, members of each team will set out from various places in Hakata Ward wearing white robes and short sleeves, colorful hand towels, white headscarves, and holding up the Ooiyamakasa, singing "Hakata Shintoku" along the way, and heading towards Kushida Shrine. The scene was very spectacular and lively, attracting countless tourists and media attention.
