Yaowang Mountain

Yaowang Mountain is located 1.5 kilometers east of Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province. Its original name is Wutai Mountain. It was named after the famous Tang Dynasty medical scientist Sun Simiao who lived here for a long time and was revered as the 'King of Medicine' by the people. The mountain area is rich in forest resources, with beautiful environment and unique ridges. The temples and palaces built over the generations have made Yaowang Mountain a famous holy land of medicine. The stone carvings of Yaowang Mountain are scattered all over the mountain and are rich and colorful. Among them, the cliff carvings, medical prescription steles and more than 200 stone carvings since the Northern Wei Dynasty are extremely precious. Their images are vivid, the ideas are delicate, and the lines are smooth. In 1961, it was announced by the State Council as a cultural relics protection unit, and it is a precious historical material for studying calligraphy, religion, culture, art, and the history of ethnic minorities. The ancient architecture of Yaowang Mountain was built in the Sui Dynasty, and it was gradually formed into an ancient architectural complex with additions and renovations in later generations. The entire building is built according to the mountain, with a majestic momentum, lofty halls, and a spectacular view. Every year on the lunar 'February 2nd' temple fair, tourists from all over the world come to express their respect and memory for Sun Simiao. The 'February 2nd' temple fair of Yaowang Mountain originated from the Northern Song Dynasty. It is a grand event for the masses to commemorate the King of Medicine, Sun Simiao. In 2008, the 'Yaowang Mountain Temple Fair' was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage protection.
