The Tears of the Transcaucasus – Sevan Lake

Sevan Lake is a dual cultural and natural heritage site of Armenia. Nestled among towering mountains at an altitude of nearly 1,900 meters, it is the largest lake in the Caucasus region with a vast 1,360-square-kilometer expanse, and is known as the "Tears of the Transcaucasus." Climb the small peninsula on the northwest corner of the lake, where you will find the ruins of an ancient monastery built from black stone. Standing at the ruins, you can overlook the spectacular lake view, which evokes a sense of pilgrimage.
