Shanxi. Pingyao County. Shuanglin Temple colored sculptures.

Shuanglin Temple was already famous and large in scale during the Song Dynasty. Most of the existing buildings were rebuilt during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the colored sculptures were completed with the buildings. The colored sculptures of Shuanglin Temple are very well preserved. There are 2,052 existing colored sculptures, 1,566 of which are intact. The four walls of the Sakyamuni Hall are full of clay wall niches, each of which is an independent myth or Buddhist story. The main statue of the Bodhisattva Hall is surrounded by hundreds of Bodhisattvas about 50 cm high.
