For that reason some say and it is believed that the padang region itself is the area of the present Javanese ditch, and even the name in Chinese and its accents for the Javanese ditch until now still use the term 'padang' (Chinese: 巴冬, Hanyu Pinyin: Bā Dōng, Teochew & Hokkien: Pa Tang ) although its official nickname in modern Malay is Parit Java. That's why when you drive in this area you will see alot in Chinese word 巴冬鱼(Patong fish ) and this area have a lot restaurant selling Asam pedas and variety of seafood.
