#myhiddengems Visiting the Cliffs of Meteora in Greece was like stepping into a different world! 🏞️ The combination of nature's grandeur and human ingenuity was breathtaking. Located in central Greece, near the town of Kalambaka, Meteora features enormous rock pillars topped with centuries-old monasteries that seem to be suspended in mid-air. There’s no entrance fee to hike around the cliffs themselves, but visiting each monastery costs around €3. I explored a few, like the Great Meteoron and Varlaam, which offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape and a peaceful, spiritual experience. 🏰🙏 The hike up the cliffs was steep and a bit challenging, but the panoramic views from the top were absolutely worth every step. From there, you could see the Thessalian plain stretch out for miles, and the sense of serenity was overwhelming. 🌄 The monasteries themselves are masterpieces of architecture, blending perfectly with the natural surroundings, and the frescoes inside are incredible to see up close. The nearby town of Kalambaka is charming and full of local tavernas serving delicious Greek food. 🥙 I had a fantastic meal of souvlaki and moussaka, which was the perfect way to end a day of exploration. If you're into photography or just enjoy stunning landscapes, make sure to bring a camera – the views are truly unforgettable. 📸 If you have time, consider visiting the nearby town of Trikala or even taking a day trip to the scenic village of Metsovo in the Pindus mountains.
