From the end of September to the beginning of October, the golden autumn scenery of Ulan Butong is about to show its charming autumn colors, and the best viewing period only blooms for half a month. D1. Saihanba (free of charge for road construction in 2024) Starting from Beijing, we went all the way north via the Jingmo Line and traveled nearly 300 kilometers through the plains and valleys in the Yanshan Mountains before arriving at Saihanba. Next to the north side of Saihanba is the Ulan Butong Grassland, and you will step into Inner Mongolia as soon as you lift your foot. Here, the layers of birch forest are dyed golden, and when you walk on the forest path, the fallen leaves rustle under your feet. D2. Yudaokou (ticket 80/person, valid within three days) Yudaokou is close to Saihanba, and Sun Lake looks more peaceful and charming under the golden sunshine. The autumn colors of the Grand Canyon are like a huge color spectrum, unfolding one after another, and the mountains and forests are dressed in colorful costumes. Beigou does not refer to a specific point, but a loop including Beigou. The autumn forest here is very layered, dotted with cattle, sheep, and haystacks. Beigou-Hengli Mountain (Wolf Totem and One Step Away were filmed here). There is a wooden boardwalk to the left of the parking lot to climb to the top of the mountain. Then we came to Wild Duck Lake, Red Pine Lake, and Colorful Mountain. Afterwards, return to Yeya Lake and turn right, passing by the Jiapigou birch forest, and finally arrive at Baicao Aobao. D4. Colorful Mountain & Film and Television Base On the second day in Ulan Butong, we caught up with the first snow of the year. The beauty of the colorful mountain is covered with a layer of white wedding dress, which is so beautiful that it makes people enchanted. Remember to bring your camera, because every frame is a wallpaper-worthy beauty! In the early morning, you can watch a beautiful sunrise at the film and television base. If you encounter a unique advection fog in the grassland, it will be a paradise on earth. D5. Tiantayong Village (free) Take the Jingwu Line to bypass the Huamugou Scenic Area and go straight to Tiantaiyong Village! No need to buy a ticket! The route is a bit long! But the scenery along the way is so beautiful! Swiss rolls can be seen everywhere on the roadside, shining golden in the sunset. This is also a paradise for off-road enthusiasts. In the morning, the sun slowly shines over the hills and across the tidal flats. The smoke from the villages rises. The herdsmen push open the fence. Thousands of sheep, cattle and horses are driven by the shepherds and herdsmen towards the river and across the shoals. It's like a great migration of animals. Off-road vehicles can run wild in the water, and you can also see the spectacular horse splashing performance. About accommodation and meals: 1. There are many homestays at Saihanba Yudaokou, and they are not far from the scenic spots. They are basically herdsmen’s farmhouses with average accommodation conditions. Most B&Bs can provide a la carte meals, mostly beef and mutton, and the prices are quite reasonable, not cheap. 2. Choose to stay in Ulan Butong near the Hongshan Army Racecourse. It is close to attractions and there are many restaurants and supermarkets, but don’t have too high expectations for accommodation conditions. The specialty here is Inner Mongolia meat pie and Halahai stewed potatoes. You must choose the intangible cultural heritage meat pie shop. The meat is very firm, the skin is thin and the filling is big. After eating it twice in a row, I still have endless aftertaste. Roasted lamb legs and roasted lamb chops are also recommended. Although cattle and sheep are abundant here, the price is relatively high because it is in a scenic spot, which is similar to that in Beijing. 3. Tiantaiyong Village is an undeveloped small village. You can only choose farmhouses for accommodation. The conditions are relatively difficult ~ but the scenery is very good. The B&B halfway up the mountain is indeed very quiet and relatively original. You can also see the Milky Way at night. Catering can basically be done at the farmyard. The price is also much cheaper than Ulan Butong. Note: Starting around September 15th every year, the grassland enters the forest fire prevention period, and all outdoor fires are prohibited (including picnics, smoking and other open flames)!
