Hidden in Mishan Town, Gaoping City, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, is an ancient temple with a rich historical and cultural heritage - Gaoping Tiefo Temple. This ancient temple, which was built in the 7th year of Dading in the Jin Dynasty (1167), has undergone several renovations during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and has now become a precious heritage that combines history, culture, and art. Tiefo Temple is not only famous for its long history, but also for its exquisite Buddhist colored sculptures and the same location as Black Myth Wukong, which attracts the attention of countless tourists. 【Attractions】 ✅The name of Tiefo Temple comes from a Tiefo who returned to peace in the 7th year of Dading in the Jin Dynasty. Although this Tiefo no longer exists, the name of the temple has been used to this day and has become a witness to history. ✅Tiefo Temple is located in the north and south, with a single-entry courtyard layout. The north end of the courtyard axis is the main hall, and the south end is the Hall of Heavenly Kings. There are three side halls on the west side of the main hall, and there are five meditation rooms in the courtyard. The beams and roofs of the main hall and the Hall of Heavenly Kings all reflect the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty and have distinctive local characteristics. It is a physical example of the transition and evolution of the local architectural style from the Jin and Yuan to the Ming Dynasty. ✅The most eye-catching thing in Tiefo Temple is the Buddhist colored sculptures in the main hall. This group of colored sculptures totals 27 (also said to be more than 30), including Sakyamuni Buddha, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, and twenty-four celestial beings. These colored sculptures are vivid and peculiar, with different expressions, lifelike, showing the rich imagination and superb artistic creativity of ancient craftsmen. In particular, the twenty-four celestial beings surrounding the Buddha Hall, with their non-mainstream shapes and exquisite skills, are known as hidden treasures. ✅There are also many historical inscriptions preserved in Tiefo Temple, such as the reconstruction inscription in the first year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1522), the Tiefo Temple stele in the third year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1575), and the Tiefo Temple stele in the eighth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1730). These inscriptions not only record the historical changes of Tiefo Temple, but also important materials for studying ancient religious culture and architectural art.
