Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha

Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha is revered for its divine power to calm the eruptions of Mount Fuji. As the faith in Mount Fuji spread, it became known as the head shrine of over 1,300 Sengen shrines across Japan. The repeated eruptions of Mount Fuji were pacified by the deity Sengen Ōkami, and the summit of Mount Fuji has been respected as the sacred domain of this deity. As the eruptions subsided, the reverence transformed into the practice of climbing Mount Fuji.
