There is a reason Condé Nast travel ranked this beautiful resort in the top 3 of Eastern Mexico! It’s amazing, the property is kept immaculate, the service is unmatched. We had the ceiba club experience tbh I can see why families might find that aspect appealing but in the future we will skip this upgrade

We stayed 6 days at Alaya for a yoga retreat (Bliss Camp Retreats) and the entire experience was amazing. The entire property is breath taking and the sun rises are not to be missed. The location is great, many shops and restaurants nearby. Though we did not need to go to any other restaurant because every meal and drink we had at Alaya was delicious. Carla and David at the front desk were always there to fulfill any request, arrange transportation, and answer any questions we had. They arranged for our massages...which were amazing...which we were able to do on our ocean front balcony. Our room was always clean and they even turn on your AC at turn down. Edwin was ALWAYS around to tend to our group. He was there in the morning for coffee and there at night helping the staff with Dinner. Santos and Filiberto on the beach remembered our drinks after the second day and worked tirelessly serving and setting up umbrellas and beds for everyone. They kept the beach and the grounds clean and beautiful. Ismael and Fernando also worked so hard serving and taking care of everyone. The staff and service was second to none. I wish I knew more of the names of the people behind the scenes because they all deserve credit for the total experience we had at Alaya. I cannot recommend Alaya enough.

Me and my friends went to Delek beach club for some lunch and drinks and to lay on the beds for the day. By the time we had got the bill, we had consumed multiple drinks. Upon inspection of the bill, we discovered that over 100 US dollars in food and drinks had been added to our bill, when I brought this up with the waiter, he said “sorry my colleague has bad English and didn’t realise you ordered the bill” , he then claimed that when we asked his colleague for the bill he had gone and added tacos, guacamole and chips, fries, water and a mojito to the bill… I’m sorry language Barrier or not the word “bill” does not translate to add half the menu to our bill. We also asked for the bill at 6:15 and the kitchen closes at 6pm so I don’t understand how he thought we wanted food. It is very evident here that they were trying to take advantage of drunk ladies!! Then when we finally got everything removed (minus the mojito as we unfortunately didn’t notice this till had left and already paid), the waiter had the cheek to tell us we needed to tip 15-20% !!!! We opted to tip 8% as we felt the wool was being pulled over our eyes and to the waiters dismay he turned around and told us we were not allowed to pay under 10%, to be honest we should not have tipped at all. He claimed that all other places like taboo etc. the food is twice as expensive ?? As if that was relevant to the case. Unless you like getting scammed and taken advantage of.. I would avoid with a 10 foot pole !!!! Disgusting behaviour I would never return

The room was very small and had a rooftop view, but the view was only on the 4th floor, so it wasn't that good, and I could see the window next door, so I had to keep the blinds open every day. The pool is small, but the interior is very neat and pretty. The female staff was a little rude when I checked in.

I’m so glad we stayed here. The hotel was great and the staff was so kind throughout our trip. We loved the social hour, the snacks and cocktails were terrific. We stayed for four nights and were able to borrow bikes to ride to the beach, to cenotes, or into town. Huge thank you to everyone there, especially Daniela, Edwars, Luis, and Pedro, for making the trip so special and helping me celebrate my birthday. We already can’t wait to come back.

We enjoy this hotel so much we have stayed every time we are in Tulum! The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, the jungle view is beautiful. We have stayed in many of the different rooms but our favorite is the one bedroom suite with balcony. The terrace suite is nice too, but the terrace isn’t covered so when it rains you lose that space. We love how accommodating and friendly the staff are. I think I lost something every day we were there last time (swimsuit coverup, sandals, car keys) and they were right there to make sure I was reunited with my items. The breakfast staff was great, they made sure you had everything you wanted and again, always a smile to great you. The bar staff was excellent also, we mainly ate at the downstairs bar and had our food delivered poolside. It didn’t take long for them to know our favorites! Make sure you take advantage of the 2 free drinks and the twentyish dollars in credit you get each night. The rooftop pool is reserved for adults, but during the day if no one is up there, they did allow our son to get in (he is 10). The rooftop pool is great, it is an infinitely edge looking out at the jungle. The downstairs pool feels more intimate. The housekeeping staff is also on point, we often only have housekeeping when we need it, a few days in to our stay usually, but the day we had it done everything was perfect upon our return, and the toys my son had bought were cutely arranged on his bed (which they also made up properly for us!). The location is great for nearby restaurants (which I found to be better than the ones on the beach) and renting a car or scooter. Take advantage of the lagoon snorkeling trip they offer as well, you have to rent the snorkel gear but the entrance fee and the transportation fee are included. In Tulum transportation so expensive!! We did not do the beach transportation but they do offer that. They also have a laundry facility! We brought detergent and quarters with us. If we were to come back to Tulum we would stay here again.

Location: We stayed at una vida for my mums birthday in February. I was a bit apprehensive initially as I knew the hotel wasn’t close to the hotel zone and main touristy areas and was having second thoughts about the location. Once arriving however, I realised I 100% made the right decision. While not close to the hotel zone, the location is perfect if you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing and quiet holiday ( and not looking to go to the beach every single day!). You can easily walk into town ( 15mins) to get to the shops and restaurants and the beach is a 20 min drive. It is a bit expensive for a taxi (600 pesos/ 30gbp one way) but we were prepared to pay this since we didn’t go to the beach every day and much preferred the location of our hotel. The hotel kindly arranged taxis for us whenever I asked. Food: The food was delicious at the hotel. I did find some dishes slightly salty but this wasn’t a major issue. While breakfast was included with our stay, this only comprised of 3/4 dishes from the entire breakfast menu. This was fine at first but since we were staying for 7 days, it did get a bit boring and repetitive so we began paying for dishes from the rest of the menu. We went to the sister hotel ( less than a min walk) for drinks which were really tasty. Staff: All the staff were super friendly but a massive shout out to Fer who went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. He was so friendly and always had a smile on his face. He gave us some great recommendations on places to go and some great tips/advice too. He also arranged an excursion for us and always messaged me on WhatsApp to keep me informed throughout our stay. Fer definitely made our stay here even better! Room: We stayed in a one-bedroom room ( 3 adults). The room had plenty of space for us all - it included a room with a big double bed and balcony and then a kitchen/ living area with a smaller sofa bed. There was another balcony here and a stove, fridge and table. I loved how spacious the rooms were! Pool: There were two pools we could access, one at una Vida and one at bardo the sister hotel. While the pool at bardo was bigger I found the one at una Vida was always much warmer. Towels are provided and there’s plenty of day beds to sit around and relax.

Sol is an amazing instructor of Acro!! We started with just basic warm ups and Sol ended up teaching me a head stand in my first class. Just all around fun and good vibes in the class, I’d go to every single class if I could. she also does a 7am run class which I’m really excited about trying!

Excellent
We spent a week in the Tulum/Akumal area. And by far this was our most favorite experience. Cesar was our tour guide and he clearly has a passion for the work there, extremely knowledgeable and shared about the flora & fauna. We learned so much during the tour and tasted a tiny pepper. He demonstrated the links between the plant life and animals there, history and the importance of their work to maintain the Eco balance. Strongly recommend bringing deet free insect repellent, as there is an aggressive swarming mosquitoes, they do sell it and it actually works, we bought extra bottles to bring home. There were so many special moments. It’s really hard to pick which one the monkeys were especially adorable and we were allowed to hold their hand & pet them. We gave them peanuts and watched them swing around living their best life, a beautiful surprise when a bunch of wild monkeys chasing each other in the treetops and we just watched them for a while, we never felt rushed. It was amazing. I never thought my life I’d ever see anything like that. Truly special. They had many other animals that they are trying to rehabilitate however someone unfortunately have been abused and neglected, unable to be released so they take so they continue with their care. They need our support to continue their solid work. After learning and interacting with many other animals, and after our very humid walk, we jumped into the cool stunning underground cenote. We were with a small group so we had it all to ourselves a stark difference from the other cenotes we visited. But wait, there’s more! Then onto Milopena Honey tasting from the stingless Mayan, honey bee that only produces very small amounts every year and definitely had a unique floral citrusy flavor, so different from the traditional honey. It was expensive, but it made the perfect gift versus a traditional souvenir. All the proceeds go to their rehabilitation efforts. They have an on-site restaurant that provides many great options. We had the garlic whitefish it was excellent. I know there’s tons of things to do in the Yucatán but this definitely has to be in the top five.
GGuest UserLet's start this out by saying I paid about $30 USD per night for two different five night stays in June 2022. The air conditioning worked purposely, despite what other reviews state, and there was nearly nobody there at all (like maybe eight or nine other people) during our stay. It is perfectly central - a less than ten minute walk from anything you want to do in the city. Plenty of cabs out front (if going to the beach the going rate is about 300 or 350 pesos, do NOT get ripped off!!!), and a half block from the bus station for easy transport back to the Cancun airport. Small pool was never skimmed, but whatever. Lots of ants in the room and a scorpion crawled under the door one afternoon, but hey, Tulum is in the jungle after all. 24 hour entrance with a man who will let you in the locked door after hours. Limited seating by the pool (only four chairs), so good in low season but you'll be on your towel on the ground if it gets any busier. Again though, I got a really good price, I've seen the hotel charge almost ten times as much when there is more demand and would have been very disappointed if the cost was much higher than I paid.
GGuest UserWhat we wish we had known before booking this hotel: - COMPLETELY ISOLATED. There is nothing around (super residential) and it was a $60 USD taxi ride to go to the center of Tulum ($30 each way), or pretty much anywhere else. So you need a car to stay there. - NO SWIMMING OR WALKING ON BEACH. There is sooooooo much sargasso/sea**** on the sand (like a 2 foot tall wall) and in the water (like sea**** soup), and coral + rocks on the bottom so we couldn't get in the water at all. And that's true of the whole area, on both sides of the hotel. It's also hard to walk on the beach because the sand is full of coral pieces, hurting the bare feet. Not at all what we wanted. - FOOD & DRINKS ARE EXPENSIVE. The food and the cocktails at the hotel restaurant were good, and some even very good, but the prices were almost California prices. And with no other options around, and no way to get anywhere, it got pretty expensive. - NOT LIKE PHOTOS. While the design of the hotel is beautiful and stylish, the place is in a state of disrepair. Looks like it's been open for more than 20 years, and it's not even 7... We thought we were booking a luxury boutique hotel based on the price, but it didn't feel like that in person. On the positive side, the staff was AMAZING. We loved everyone, and they made our stay pleasant even though we were disappointed in several aspects. Lucy, Luis & Fabian at the reception and Moises, Eduardo & Ricardo at the restaurant/bar were all wonderful!
