Hotel near Ueno/Asakusa,Tokyo
ART HOTEL Nippori Lungwood is conveniently located a 1-minute walk from JR Nippori Station and just 36 minutes from Narita Airport via the Keisei Skyliner. It offers easy access to Ueno and Asakusa, making it an ideal base for sightseeing in Tokyo. With a variety of rooms from single to family types, guests can enjoy a spacious and comfortable stay for both leisure and business.

"Honestly, this hotel far exceeded my expectations. With three beds, each of our family of three had our own space, ensuring a great night's sleep after a long day of walking around. The room itself was quite spacious, which made the bathroom feel a little cramped by comparison. The view from the window was really open and the night view was great too. Breakfast was just okay, but everyone's attitude was excellent! Plus, it's only a three-minute walk from Nippori Station, with tons of restaurants and convenience stores. If you're looking for nightlife, there are plenty of options too, haha~ (The soundproofing isn't the best, so hopefully, you won't encounter any noisy groups partying late into the night.)"

"Very good location close to a subway station, with a nearby subway exit also having a lift, so luggage isn’t a problem. But you are better off going across the road, perhaps a 4-min walk, to the Marriott Courtyard close by where there is the airport bus stop which can take you to Haneda and Narita. Breakfast variety is limited; you can select a choice of Jap or Western Main, along with a few other buffet options. Room size is ok. Public bath’s pool is small but definitely not the smallest I have seen. Different staff to communicate with you in the usual foreign languages."

"I booked an Executive Floor room, which granted me complimentary access to the Executive Lounge. The city night view from there was absolutely stunning, a truly pleasant surprise! Another unexpected bonus was the free mini-bar in the room, stocked with beer, wine, and soft drinks. The Western breakfast on the 37th floor was à la carte and of excellent quality, and I thoroughly enjoyed the views while having breakfast. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Tokyo."

"The hotel's location is excellent. Shinagawa Station is a major transportation hub, making it convenient to get anywhere. The hotel is right outside Shinagawa Station, which is great for families with kids and those with luggage. The service is standard, and the rooms are clean. The new tower offers good views and is quiet. The aquarium is right downstairs. After watching the dolphin night show, it was a 3-minute walk back to the hotel – super easy with kids!"

"So glad I booked the Imperial Hotel again! Compared to others, it really offers great value for money. Check-in time is 2 PM, but I arrived a little after 1 PM and was able to check in smoothly right away. This time I stayed on the 24th floor, and the view was absolutely fantastic. The room was quite spacious, with a viewing table by the window – perfect for enjoying food, drinks, and the scenery. The soundproofing in the room was decent, though I could still hear a rumbling sound when the tram passed downstairs. However, not many trams run late at night, so it didn't really affect my sleep. The room was very clean, and the entire hotel was spotless. The bathroom was spacious, and there was even a small stool in front of the vanity, which was a thoughtful touch. The shower pressure was excellent, making for a very comfortable shower; it almost felt like a massage. Overall, I was extremely satisfied and hope to stay here again next time!"

"Location: Very close to Ikebukuro West Exit, near Lumine and Tobu Department Store. It's also convenient to cross Ikebukuro Station to shop in Ikebukuro East. The Yamanote Line makes it easy to get to Shinjuku, Harajuku, Akihabara, and Ginza, all within 20-30 minutes. Cleanliness: I'd give it a 90. The room was cleaned daily. Service: Excellent! Check-in and check-out were very quick. Even more convenient, you can buy airport bus tickets directly at the hotel, and the bus picks you up right outside. An Indian staff member even helped with luggage. I specifically chose this hotel with an airport bus stop because I bought a lot of large items this trip. It's worth mentioning that in the early hours of August 23rd (late evening on the 22nd), there was a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Tokyo. Being on the 16th floor, the shaking was quite severe and lasted for nearly 2 minutes. The in-room broadcast gave earthquake warnings three times, each in four languages! However, because there wasn't a stronger tremor, apart from informing us that the elevators were stopped and to stay away from windows, we weren't asked to evacuate to the ground. The emergency exits were also not activated. It was a terrifying night!"

"My friend recommended this hotel, and the location is excellent, right next to the Tsukiji Market. You can grab breakfast from the market downstairs and bring it back to eat while it's still warm. Both Tsukiji Station and Tsukiji-shijo Station are very close by, and Higashi-Ginza isn't far either, making transportation very convenient. The hotel also has a gym, though I didn't get a chance to use it. Guests can enjoy free access to the public bath, which is a really nice perk – free hot baths every day! There's also a common area with a great selection of manga, including many popular titles. Plus, there's a free coffee machine on the first floor. Rooms are cleaned daily, or you can hang a 'do not disturb' sign if you prefer. Overall, I think it's a fantastic hotel."

"I stayed at Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Tokyo Shiodome and had a pleasant experience overall. The hotel is conveniently located within the Shiodome complex, making it easy to access public transportation and nearby attractions. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of delicious Japanese and Western options. I also noticed that many international guests, especially Americans, were staying here, which gave the hotel a lively and welcoming atmosphere. On the downside, the staff were just average not unfriendly, but not particularly warm or attentive either. The room was also smaller than it appeared in the photos, and the bathroom was very compact, with just enough space to move around comfortably. I expected a little more based on the pictures, but I understand that compact rooms are quite common in Tokyo. One thing that could definitely be improved is the smoking area. The smoking cubicle only accommodates two people at a time. Since many guests including myself were smokers, there was often a queue during peak hours, which was quite inconvenient. Overall, it’s a good hotel with a fantastic location and excellent breakfast. Just keep your expectations realistic regarding room size, and be prepared for the limited smoking facilities if you’re a smoker."

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu

9.7/10
Amazing

I come to Tokyo several times a year, staying a fortnight or more each time. This time I spent seven nights at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. The room faced Hie Shrine. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows I could see the shrine's copper roof and half of Tokyo's skyline. The décor was modern without excess; the layout flowed easily, Bose speakers hidden in the walls, another set in the bathroom ceiling, connected by a 3.5mm jack. The curtains were motorized, though you hardly needed to close them. The turndown service. I would leave in the evening and return late to find the room changed: only the hallway light and bedside lamp left on, a bottle of water and a glass on the nightstand, two chocolates beside them. The evening tea and teacup, previously stored in the cabinet, had been moved next to the coffee machine. These changes were so slight you had to think back carefully to confirm they had happened at all. The temperature and humidity had been adjusted. As if the room itself remembered your habits. Room service fell short of the ryokan in Hakone or Lake Toya, but well above the ordinary hotel. Each day I made two or three cups of complimentary coffee, played music, read, wrote. In seven days I finished three books. The research ahead began to take shape. There were drawbacks. No washing machine, but a decent laundromat ten minutes' walk away—a chance to wander the streets of Akasaka. The room provided HDMI and ethernet ports but no cables; for those who came to rest, perhaps a mercy. The minibar fridge was mostly occupied by drinks for purchase, same as the Imperial, though there was still room for my sparkling water. The day I left it was half past five and fully dark. I could barely make out the faces of the bellhop and the taxi driver. Together they loaded my luggage into the boot. I wished the bellhop a happy new year in Japanese and told her I liked her hat. She smiled and returned the greeting. As the taxi pulled out of the underground drive, I thought of the inns Kawabata once wrote about: what had to be sought in the mountains of snow country can now be reached by elevator from the B2 exit of a metro station. I have watched the Shinagawa Prince Hotel loosen quietly over time, slip a little. That kind of decline is rarely one great error. It begins the day someone forgets to leave a glass of water, neglects to move a packet of tea, omits a newspaper. As for The Capitol Hotel Tokyu: in Japanese, what I experienced over these seven days is called ちょうどいい.

The room was quite comfortable. The Western restaurant is on the first floor, and that's also where breakfast is served. I particularly loved the pancakes at breakfast! The main course came with a simple self-service salad. I stayed on the second floor. I asked the front desk for help confirming some items I wanted to buy, and they were very enthusiastic, even helping me make phone calls. There was a lovely Chinese lady there! All the staff were beautiful. For anyone visiting Akihabara, staying here is incredibly convenient.

Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. The bell boy who helped me with bringing my luggages to the room was very friendly and helpful, spoke good English too. Though not all staff spoke good English, they tried their best to assist me. Their service standard is consistent throughout. The room and the toilet was spacious and clean. There were 4 restuarants that I could go to for breakfast. The Garden Lounge which served buffet breakfast has a wide selection of food and drink. Most importantly the food was yummy! I enjoyed looking at the beautiful garden with waterfall view as I was seated by the window during breakfast.

Mid-August 2026. I wonder if it's because it rained for two or three days while we were in Tokyo, but why did no one mention how incredibly humid the room was? The duvet was damp and smelly at night, making it really uncomfortable to sleep under. Maybe the air conditioning was set incorrectly? The hotel had it on auto (heating 25 degrees Celsius), which we found too hot. We switched it to cooling 24 degrees, and then discovered the room was very damp, so we changed it to dehumidify at 24.5 degrees. There was a device on the floor that I couldn't tell if it was an air purifier, humidifier, or dehumidifier. Location: Excellent. It takes a quick 3-minute walk to the subway. There's a 24-hour supermarket to the left when you exit Shiomi Station. A FamilyMart convenience store is right downstairs from the hotel. Room: The size is probably quite good for Tokyo, aside from the excessive humidity I mentioned. Everything else, like the bedding, towels, and bathtub, was very satisfactory. Though I didn't use the bathtub once, haha; the large public bath on the second floor was more convenient. So, a slightly larger room without a bathtub would be more practical. Breakfast: Not a huge variety, but the quality was excellent. We thought it was quite good, but it would be even better if they could change up the options slightly. After four days, it did get a bit repetitive~ Public Bath: The absolute best part was the large public bath on the second floor. It was spacious and very comfortable. Overall, I was still very satisfied. I'll just avoid staying in Tokyo during the August rainy season in the future if all hotels are this humid~

The hotel definitely has a lot of history. Especially the South Wing where I stayed, the room had a 2000s guesthouse vibe. It was quite cramped for a family of three; with our luggage open, there was barely any space to move, so it was good we only stayed one night. There were many hotel staff, and check-in was very fast. There are plenty of convenience stores and coffee shops nearby, and it's a convenient 10-minute walk to Shinjuku Station.

Loved it! The room was clean and tidy with a well-designed layout. The kitchen was fully equipped with all the utensils and cookware you could need for breakfast and even full meals. The washing machine has both wash and dry functions, so no need to bring home a pile of dirty laundry. The surrounding area is very quiet, and it's within walking distance to Shin-Marunouchi, KITTE, LABI, and BIC CAMERA. A summer evening stroll by the Imperial Palace is also incredibly relaxing. The transportation is super convenient; the hotel is right above the C6A subway exit, with direct access to the Hanzomon Line, Chiyoda Line, and Marunouchi Line, getting you straight to Omotesando, Shibuya, and Ginza. The only minor downside is the lack of a scenic view from the window; aside from the rooms facing the Imperial Palace, you mostly just see the office buildings across the way.

This is our second time staying here. The hotel is right next to the Ariake Garden mall, practically seamlessly connected. There are plenty of dining options upstairs and shopping is very convenient. Downstairs, there's a large Aeon supermarket, and right outside its exit, at platform 1, you can catch the bus to Haneda Airport. There's also a big Muji store nearby. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to Ginza from its basement level. While the hotel is situated between two subway lines, neither is too far away, making this location excellent value for money. We booked a family room for two adults and two children, which had four beds. The bathroom and toilet were separate (wet and dry areas), and the room layout was quite good.

Beyond its great location, there's really not much to praise. The front desk service was very unprofessional. It felt like there were mostly foreign guests, and I barely saw any locals checking in. The room facilities were pretty much on par with a basic chain hotel in China. For this price, you could easily stay at a Japanese chain hotel, which would at least offer standard service and all the amenities you'd expect.

While this hotel has a convenient location, the experience was ruined by a lack of basic hospitality and very cramped quarters. The room was so small it was difficult to even open two large suitcases. More disappointing, however, was the staff’s attitude. Everything is followed strictly 'by the book' with zero flexibility. I was told a late check-out would be charged by the hour, and even a simple request for a complimentary bottle of water was flatly denied. The staff were condescending and never offered a smile, making for a very unwelcoming environment. A small gesture like a bottle of water costs almost nothing but earns customer loyalty; unfortunately, this hotel chooses rigid rules over guest satisfaction. I would not recommend staying here.
