I am so happy for the people that have had great experiences here but that just wasn't my fortune at Tradewinds. I want to highlight the positives first: I was greeted warmly by Kerisa and was later assigned my room by another staff member. I had lunch before being assigned which was wonderful, and as a vegetarian I truly appreciated the flavors they managed to achieve. Food and drinks generally were a hit and the hotel views were great. As for the room, it was not what had been shown to me prior by my course organizer which was beyond disappointing but I compromised for peace sake. That is until I noticed all my colleagues got AMAZING rooms which beach views while I had a "garden view" which were some potted plents. I came first by a day and even paid my down-payment first, but was given the worst room; which somehow I knew was gonna be bad by the receptionist's tone. I asked for another room to which the supervisor declined at first but I asked again 2 days later, after realizing I had been shortchanged. Mind you I booked 6 nights at this hotel. When I did get the room, (not the one I wanted but better than what I had before) I had to battle mosquitoes in large number in the bathroom after a long day of a business course. I won't give the details but the supervisor at the bar was rude to me saying she lent me an umbrella and I never returned it. The guys who borrowed it said she was extremely nice to them though I told her it was them and I had taken a towel to shelter and not the umbrella. I was promised breakfast as part of my stay but on arrival they said it wasn't included. I wanted to get a drink at the bar and no one was responding to my request. All I got was rolled eyes and mumbling. I had to ask 3 times apprehensively if I was going to get my request but the woman addressed her colleague as if I was bothering her and asked her aggressively if they had it in the back. I literally had to ask of they were really busy for her one of the to check her attitude. My experience is so different to my colleagues who all witnessed it, that they wondered if there is an undertone of racism as they are all not of African descent and found they were having a great time. I have to say that I'm the last person to make such a serious claim, but I was left to wonder. They felt to comfortable addressing me disrespectfully that I just want to leave. Sadly, I have 2 more nights here. This place has left me wanting my first trip to Antigua to be my last. Tradewinds, I have never been so belittled in any establishment that I have been to. I'm disappointed that this beautiful island could have such poor staffing as part of their tourism industry. Remember that staff member who greeted me warmly, she was Dominican. Go figure. Better training needed. I want to go home. I hope the Royalton which i head to on Tuesday, totally changes my experience in Antigua, because I've had enough of Tradewinds at this point.
