My stay was defined by a feeling of tranquil escape. The hotel's greatest strength is its atmosphere. Being in a historic building tucked away in a quiet, leafy neighborhood just off the famous Nanjing Road created a perfect balance. I could easily walk to the buzz and shopping, but returned each time to a serene, garden-filled sanctuary. It felt more like a peaceful retreat than a standard city hotel.

"The windowless room was really stuffy, but everything else was okay. I mainly want to talk about the bathroom. The shower stall was incredibly tiny. There was no shelf to put anything on, and while I can overlook the lack of conditioner, I had nowhere to put my own conditioner, nor the towel. The showerhead only twisted to the right; no matter how much I turned it, it wouldn't rotate properly. What you see is after I managed to twist it a bit, but it just spun back as soon as I turned on the water. When the room door was locked, there was an intermittent beeping sound from the bottom. The room was quite soundproof, which was a good point."

"One word. Excellent. Marvellous customer service. Service orientated hotel. Location is good too as it’s located exactly at nanjing pedestrian street with access to metro line 2. Special credit to Justin Wu during my check in. Fast check in and voluntarily upgraded us even without us requesting. Kudos for great attentive attitude. We were also given late check out as my flight back is late at night. Appreciate his understanding. Smooth check out process too especially with a sweet young beautiful lady named starry cui. Can converse well in English too. Gave us a complimentary plushie which makes a great memorable gift. Will definitely stay in crowne plaza if I am to drop by Shanghai again"

"I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The front office staff were very good, friendly, and helpful. They accommodated my Taobao packages without any issues, which I really appreciated.
The hotel also provides free airport pick-up and drop-off, which was very convenient. The room was cleaned every day, always neat and comfortable. Special thanks to the cleaner number 005, who did an excellent job and was very attentive.
The front office staff on the 10th and 28th were also very helpful and professional.
The rooms are clean, comfortable, and definitely good value for money. Breakfast has a good variety of options, so there are many choices to enjoy.
Overall, a great stay and I would happily come back again."

"The facilities are brand new, and the room's balcony has a washing machine and a folding area. The bed is very soft, and there are multiple sinks in the room. The waiting area is decorated like a trendy cafe and is always bustling with people, a significant number of whom are foreigners. The glass corridor area has a strong smell of building materials due to construction debris. The hotel is directly opposite the Bund, and the terrace offers a great environment. The only downside is the low-frequency, continuous hum from the outdoor unit, which made it hard to fall asleep, though turning it off resolved the issue. There were yellow urine stains on the toilet seat, with visible streaks from wiping in one direction. I'd suggest providing toilet seat covers."

It's a bit of a distance from Yu Garden, about an 8-minute drive or an 18-minute walk. However, it's right next to a bus stop, making it convenient to get to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. The staff were very warm and attentive, and they even offered free late-night snacks, which was a nice touch.

GGuest UserThe front desk staff were really great; one of the male staff even gave me hot mineral water and local specialties when I left. When I couldn't get the hot water to work in my room, a female staff member was quick to help, and they personally delivered my takeaway orders to my room. There's also hot coffee available in the lobby. The hotel's close proximity to the subway is another plus. The only downsides were having to get up early for breakfast to avoid queuing for a table, and there's only one elevator. The room was a bit small and the facilities were older, but it was very clean and quiet. Also, it looked like some of the toiletries had been used, but thankfully I hadn't brought many of my own. Overall, it was a comfortable stay.

XXiaojunpocheOverall, my stay was quite good. On the day I checked in, my ring mysteriously disappeared. After searching for a long time with no luck, I called Niki from customer service to help me look, wondering if it had fallen into some crevice I didn't know about. We finally found it inside the pillowcase—it must have slipped through a small tear in the fabric. I never thought to look there since I hadn't opened it. I really appreciate Niki helping me search for so long. The hotel might be a bit older, as some facilities had issues. I communicated with Max, and he ran back and forth multiple times to resolve the problems. While the hotel's hardware might be fixed, good service often makes all the difference, and this return visit was definitely a good experience thanks to the staff.
On a side note, I have a small suggestion: for the area near the front desk that seems like an executive lounge for afternoon tea, when guests enter, please don't be so rigid and tell them they need to go sit on the sofa outside in the lobby because it's closing. It would be more acceptable to explain that it's a paid service or requires consumption to enter. I was with elderly family members, and older generations are used to being frugal; we often don't tell them how much things cost when we travel together. The communication style was a bit awkward and uncomfortable.

KKzwjThe hotel's location is its biggest selling point. It's just a few minutes' walk to the Bund and Nanjing Road, which was incredibly convenient for us traveling with a child, whether for sightseeing or dining. The room was clean and tidy, and the bedding was very comfortable. What surprised me most was the service; the staff noticed we had a child and proactively offered kids' toiletries and slippers, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The hotel breakfast had a wide variety of options and good quality, satisfying both adults and children. What I didn't expect was that they also offered complimentary late-night congee, which was wonderfully comforting after a tiring day of exploring. Overall, for a hotel in the prime Bund area, the service and value for money far exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely choose this hotel again next time we bring our child to Shanghai!

JJane.^If you're going to Disneyland, you *have* to stay at this hotel! We originally booked a B&B near Disneyland because we had the early entry pass, and the owner provided rides both in the morning and at night. But B&Bs just aren't the same as hotels. After our Disney trip, we checked into this Novotel, a brand I've always loved. I've stayed at several Novotels in Suzhou before, near Jinji Lake and Taihu Lake. After a full day at Disneyland, I was completely wiped out, and the hotel thoughtfully arranged a late-night snack for us. The next day, we slept in and enjoyed a fantastic breakfast – my child and I had so much fun. After relaxing a bit, we headed to the 5th floor for a workout. The late 2 PM checkout time was perfect; we got all the rest we needed before heading back to Suzhou! I'll definitely be back!

We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary there, and the team made it incredibly special for us. They thoughtfully decorated our room and surprised us with cakes and fruits as a kind gesture. We truly appreciated the effort — it made our celebration even more memorable.
Our room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and offered breathtaking views of the city skyline. We especially loved the in-room mini pool — the highlight of our stay was simply relaxing and enjoying a bath while taking in the view.
Tales Rooftop Bar was another standout experience. It’s the perfect place to appreciate the stunning city and river views while enjoying drinks. They offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary snacks as well.
Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of Western and Chinese options. Aside from the buffet selection, guests can also order freshly prepared dishes like noodles and eggs, which are served hot — a wonderful touch.
The staff were incredibly professional, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay. They made us feel valued and were always ready to assist with a warm smile. The overall ambiance of the hotel is peaceful and relaxing, making it a perfect retreat despite being in a vibrant city like Shanghai.
We highly recommend Banyan Tree Shanghai and look forward to returning in the future.
