Puju Inn

North Railway Station
Fine stay for 2 nights when arriving in Kunming. Location is nice, although hard to find the exact location. Be well prepared and have the hotel phone number ready. Good restaurants and coffee shops nearby and walking distance to the park. Smoking is allowed in the rooms which is the downside, otherwise everything fine.
Yuhang Hotel (Kunming South High-speed Railway Station)

Chenggong New District/South High-Speed Railway Station
This area is pretty neat, I only booked to be close to the train station but there's a huge university town below with food stalls open late and soooo many food options. SQUAT TOILET. Just so you know, rooms only have squat toilets in a tiny bathroom, such that you have to shower while standing over the squat toilet. Which is fine by me, but certainly not everyone's favorite. Good enough for the price.
Deqin Guyu Huating Inn
4.7/5156 Reviews
VERY DISAPPOINTING! Overall: The inn is nice and confortable but the service is terrible. Service made us feel very unwelcome and ruined the experience. Room: humble but comfortable room. You can ask for a heater, which is very needed in the winter months (we stayed here in late November). Be aware that some rooms are marked as “Mountain View” but in fact you’re in a covered area so won’t really have a view (pictures attached) - we booked one of these rooms but since it was low season we were lucky to get a free upgrade and get one of the few rooms with a nice view. Cleanliness: the rooms are relatively clean, but we had a mouldy shower curtain (see pictures). Amenities: the restaurant / front desk area is very nice and cosy. Service: terrible! Every time we needed their assistance it felt as if we were disturbing them from sitting by the fire (even though they barely had any customers and it seemed as if they were not busy at all). We are international traveler’s that don’t speak Chinese and the service was unhelpful and not welcoming. We’ve had no issues anywhere else in our trip in China, this was definitely the worst we have experienced. After reading other reviews it seems that the boss is very helpful, but he wasn’t there when we stayed at the inn and it appears that the workers don’t do a good job when he is not around. The workers didn’t advise us that we needed crampons for one of the hikes we did (hikers from other inns told us that these were a must) so we had to reluctantly stay one more night to complete the hike. When we booked another night, one service member told us a price and another service person told us a different (lower, almost 100cny lower) price. We were then charged the first (higher) price, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. The day after when we tried to rent crampons from the inn the lady told us that it was 20 cny to rent per day, and that in other places it was 40 cny per day. We decided not to rent them because they looked in very bad condition. We later found out that you can buy them brand new at “meets meili snow mountain” for 35cny and use them for the 2 hikes. We also had to rent hiking poles even though they provide them for free at the hotel given that the ones they had didn’t look in good condition and weren’t tall enough for us (the lady at the desk got frustrated with us because of this). Overall, very unhelpful, impatient service - we felt extremely uncomfortable because of it. If you’re an international traveller and don’t speak much Chinese stay away!! Food: was good but small portions compared to other places. We ended up eating most of our meals elsewhere because the service made us feel very unwelcome. Limited breakfast options, there’s many more options at “meets meili snow mountain”.
Fairyland Hotel (Kunming Nanping Pedestrian Street Baida)
4.3/51262 Reviews
Nanping Pedestrian Street
Fairyland Hotel is conveniently located next to Nanping Pedestrian Street and is close to many eateries, shopping malls and street stalls. There is construction in the building that the hotel is located, but it is limited to 9am-6pm so the noise can be avoided if you’re planning to be outside during the day. However, the general area and the room can be dusty as a result. Our hot water was also turned off for a few hours during the evening due to the construction and when it was turned back on, the water was brown and needed to be run for a while before it cleared up. Also note there is no AC/heat pump in the room but a small space heater is provided. The staff and are friendly and helpful, and assisted us in arranging a tour to Shilin Stone Forest.
Nilv Flower Time International Youth Hostel

Jianshui Ancient Town
The owner is very friendly and was easy to communicate with (via translate app). We got a great room with private bathroom. Whilst the bed is a bit hard en the toilet off the squad type, that is to be expected in this part of Asia. We had a great stay here as it was just a short walk from the lively old town centre. Would definitely recommend this place to other western traveler’s. The other guests were welcoming to us and some spoke some English with us. Oh there is free drinking water from the ancient well, hot water and the owner shared a lot off fresh fruit with us. Thank you for the great stay
Dongming Hotel (Changshui Airport)

Kunming Changshui International Airport
The service at Dongming Hotel (Changshui Airport) is exceptional and very friendly. They offer free airport pick up and drop off, making it convenient for travelers. The rooms are kept tidy and clean, and they are equipped with amenities such as a TV and air conditioner. Despite any language barriers, the staff is able to communicate effectively through WeChat, which can translate both Chinese-English and English-Chinese. This level of attention to detail and convenience makes the hotel an excellent choice for travelers passing through Changshui Airport.
Pu'er Runli Shijia Homestay

Originally, i booked only 1 night, with the intention of going onwards to Laos the next day. But i stayed a 2nd night because the room was spacious and the view out of the window was so restful. About the room, I like it that there is a desk i could work from. And that the shower and WC areas are divided by a screen. For the 2nd day, my room was refreshed with used toiletries replenished and towels changed. I wish the guesthouse would implement a system where guests are able to indicate if they wish to use the same towels. I am pro-environment, so if i don't change my towels everyday at home, i don't see the need to do so when i am away. I also like the location as it was easy for me to catch Bus Route 3 to a nearby shopping area (i had KFC breakfast there), cross the road to take Bus Route 8 to Meizi Lake Park. I spent about 3 hours there, including enjoying coffee and cake in the cafe near the entrance to the park. (My biggest regard was i did not get to drink even 1 cup of Pu'er tea while in Pu'er :)) After that I back tracked on Bus Route 8 to change to Bus Route 3 to visit the Tea Horse Ancient City. Then after, I took Bus Route 3 to the shopping centre, had dinner and shopped at Walmart, before catching Bus Route 3 back to the guesthouse. There is a walking/running track just across the road from the guesthouse. Forget about going the full length of the track. Once you see a slope on the right side, walk up there. You will get a nice viewpoint and there is a nice cafe there. If the weather is right, you get to see sunrise too! I went in the morning, the cafe was closed, so did not patronise the place. Had I known about this cafe, i would have gone there on the 1st day. Perhaps the guesthouse operator could do up a map with information of easily assessible places of interest. This could result in longer stays for free and easy travellers. Pu'er is a well planned town/city. I like it and will recommend others to spend some time there. Most importantly, do stay at this guesthouse. The surrounding tea plantations will recharge you!
Guyu Courtyard (Dali Ancient Town)

Dali Ancient City
I stayed in a room on the third floor with a terrace. It can be said that there are large windows on all sides and I can see Cangshan Mountain directly. The experience is great! In the morning, I just asked Xiao Ai to open all the curtains and watch the mountain view from the bed. It was so beautiful. The door has a password lock and does not require a room card, which is very convenient. The landlady is from the Northeast, very easy-going and cheerful, and gave some suggestions for visiting.

**Review of my Stay in Lijiang:** I recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming hotel in Lijiang, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the breathtaking view of the great mountains visible from the rooftop terrace. The sight alone made me feel like I was stepping into a painting. Upon checking in, I was warmly greeted by the hotel owner, who is Chinese and speaks excellent English. His hospitality and attentiveness immediately put me at ease, and throughout my stay, he went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed. From recommending local attractions to arranging transportation, he was always there to assist me. The accommodations themselves were comfortable and well-appointed. My room was clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated, providing a cozy retreat after a day of exploring. The hotel's attention to detail was evident in every aspect. One of the highlights of my stay was undoubtedly the rooftop, the panoramic view of the mountains was truly mesmerizing. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of Lijiang.
