This is the beginning of Zhengzhou University. In February 1956, it was officially determined at the Central Higher Education Planning Conference that the newly built university in Zhengzhou would be named "Zhengzhou University". In 1981, it became one of the first teaching and research institutions with the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees. In July 2000, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University merged to form the new Zhengzhou University.
