🇰🇿🇰🇬🇺🇿 10-Day Central Asia Itinerary
For 10 days, I recommend combining Kazakhstan + Kyrgyzstan + Uzbekistan. This gives you the best mix of dramatic mountains, alpine lakes, canyons, nomadic culture, and Silk Road cities without making the trip too rushed.
Day Route Main Highlights Overnight
1 ✈️ Almaty Panfilov Park, Zenkov Cathedral, Green Bazaar, Arbat Almaty
2 Almaty → Charyn Charyn Canyon, Valley of Castles Saty
3 Kolsai + Kaindy Kolsai Lake, Kaindy Lake Saty
4 Saty → Karakol 🇰🇬 Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan border, Issyk-Kul Karakol
5 Karakol Jeti-Oguz, mountain scenery, hot springs Karakol
6 Karakol → Bishkek Issyk-Kul, Burana Tower Bishkek
7 Bishkek → Tashkent 🇺🇿 Bishkek sightseeing + flight to Tashkent Tashkent
8 Tashkent → Samarkand High-speed train, Registan, Bibi-Khanym, Siab Bazaar Samarkand
9 Samarkand → Bukhara Silk Road architecture, Lyab-i-Hauz, old city Bukhara
10 Bukhara → Tashkent ✈️ Morning sightseeing → return to Tashkent → flight home —
🏔️ Days 2–3 — Kazakhstan Nature
Almaty → Charyn Canyon → Saty → Kolsai → Kaindy
This is the scenic highlight of the trip.
· 🌄 Charyn Canyon
· 🏞️ Valley of Castles
· 💧 Kolsai Lake
· 🌲 Kaindy Lake
· 🏔️ Tien Shan mountain scenery
Tip: A private driver is recommended for this section because public transport is limited and a car gives you much more flexibility.
🇰🇬 Days 4–6 — Kyrgyzstan
Saty → Karakol → Issyk-Kul → Bishkek
Highlights:
· 🏔️ Karakol
· 🟥 Jeti-Oguz
· 💧 Issyk-Kul
· 🌲 Mountain valleys
· 🏛️ Burana Tower
· 🏙️ Bishkek
I would skip Song-Kul on a 10-day itinerary. It is beautiful, but adding it would make the journey considerably more rushed.
🇺🇿 Days 7–10 — Uzbekistan
Tashkent → Samarkand → Bukhara
Tashkent
· Chorsu Bazaar
· Amir Timur Square
· Tashkent Metro
⭐ Samarkand
· Registan Square
· Shah-i-Zinda
· Bibi-Khanym Mosque
· Siab Bazaar
🕌 Bukhara
· Poi Kalon
· Ark Fortress
· Lyab-i-Hauz
· Historic trading domes
Uzbekistan is particularly easy to combine with a short trip because the high-speed trains make Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara much more efficient.
💰 Estimated Budget
For a budget to comfortable mid-range trip:
· 🏨 Hotels: approximately RM100–250/night
· 🚗 Private driver: biggest cost in Kazakhstan/Kyrgyzstan
· 🚆 Uzbekistan trains: relatively affordable
· 🍜 Food: generally inexpensive
· ✈️ International flights: highly dependent on travel dates
Estimated ground cost: around RM2,500–4,000 per person, excluding international flights.

🏆 Recommended Route
Almaty → Charyn Canyon → Kolsai/Kaindy → Karakol → Issyk-Kul → Bishkek → Tashkent → Samarkand → Bukhara
I would not try to visit all 5 Central Asian countries in only 10 days. Three countries is already the upper end of what I would recommend if you want to actually enjoy the destinations rather than spend most of the trip in transit.
