As the first regional park in New Zealand to be opened to visitors, Wenderholm is a real treasure. It is rare to find such a rich natural environment. It is located on the main road of Orewa, well-signposted and easily accessible from Auckland. Wenderholm has estuaries, seaside walks, beaches, picturesque sea shelters and spectacular lookout points. There are bush trails, water sports, good parking, clean toilets and showers, and an open historic house. There are well-marked paths along the way, which will satisfy most visitors, especially in the tranquility of this Eden-like environment, and the birdlife on the trails is an inspiring catalyst. The park's headland is located between the Puhoi and Waiwera rivers, and every corner offers picturesque scenery. The quiet sandy beach has magnificent views of the Hauraki Gulf, and the pohutukawa trees overlooking the beach provide welcome shade in the hot months. Many walking trails start from Couldrey House, which is just past, and are the best way to appreciate the environment. Te Akeake walk is a 30 minute walk, Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi walk is 90 minutes, and the surrounding walk takes about two and a half hours
