Valencia Cathedral is located in the heart of the old town of Valencia. It was built on the site of a former mosque and expanded over the following centuries. The main structure is Valencian Gothic, while it also retains the Romanesque Puerta de l'Almoina and features a Baroque-style iron gate. Its concave facade is unique, making the entire building look like a layered stone chronicle. A major highlight of the cathedral is the Chapel of the Holy Chalice, which houses the chalice believed to have been used by Jesus. Several popes have used it in mass, and it attracts a large number of believers and tourists every year who come specifically to pay their respects. The interior also preserves Renaissance frescoes above the main altar and paintings by Spanish artists such as Goya, which are worth slowing down to admire. TheMiguelete bell toweron one side of the cathedral is a landmark of the old town's skyline. Climb the more than 200 stone steps to the top of the tower to overlook the continuous red-tiled roofs of the old town and the city silhouette in the distance.

It is a fully pedestrianized historic square, situated exactly on the site of the forum of the ancient Roman city of Valencia from over 2,000 years ago. The Turia Fountain in the square is cast in bronze. The reclining river god symbolizes the Turia River that nourishes the Valencia plain, and the surrounding female statues represent the ancient irrigation canals fed by the river. During the Las Fallas festival every March, a giant statue of the Virgin Mary is erected in the square, and the Offering of Flowers to the Virgin Mary also takes place here. Flowers are inserted one by one to form the Virgin's cloak, and within a few days, the square transforms into a sea of flowers. On ordinary days, the open-air cafes by the square are a great place to take a break while exploring the old town.
