Santa Maria delle Grazie is located in the west of Milan, on the south side of the Sforza Castle. This red Catholic building consists of a church and a Dominican monastery. It is famous for the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci in the monastery's refectory. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. . The Last Supper "The Last Supper" was created by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century, using innovative and bold painting techniques combining oil and tempera, creating a unique perspective effect, but also easily eroded. On August 15, 1943, the church and the congregation were bombed by British and American aircraft, and most of the canteen of the congregation was destroyed, but the wall on which The Last Supper was located survived. Centuries later, 80 percent of the painting's colors had faded, and restoration work began in 1977 and continued for 22 years. At present, the number of visitors is strictly controlled, and the number of visitors cannot exceed 30 at a time. In addition to the "Last Supper", the church building itself is also worth seeing. The church was built under the auspices of Duke Sforzesco and was finally completed in 1490. It was once used as the tomb of the Sforzesco family. Later, when the French invaded, the cultural relics and treasures in the church were looted, but the exquisite dome and frescoes were still preserved. The sacristy is now the Dominican cultural center, and often holds some salons and art exhibitions.Milan · 8.6km from Sesto San Giovanni

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is located on the north side of the square of the Milan Cathedral, the iconic building of Milan, and connects to Piazza della Scala. There is also a huge door at the entrance on the side of the Milan Cathedral, attracting visitors who come and go to explore the interior of the promenade. Promenade Structure The Emanuele II Promenade is a covered arcade street, named after a King Emanuele II after the unification of Italy. It is considered one of the most beautiful commercial arcades in Europe. one. The arcade was built by the designer after the classical commercial arcade in Paris. The two intersecting corridors are cross-shaped, 198 meters long from north to south and 105 meters long from east to west. The two glass vaulted corridors meet in the octagonal space in the middle. Above is a glass dome. The sun shines through the glass roof and shines a sacred golden light on the delicate reliefs and frescoes below. Although at the beginning of the construction, the citizens of Milan complained slightly about this plan, because it destroyed some ancient buildings, but after it was completed, it gained a good reputation. Today, the arcade welcomes tourists from all over the world. Entering the arcade from the door on the side of the Milan Cathedral, you are greeted by a promenade covered with marble, printed with colorful mosaics that symbolize the unity and confidence of Italy. Many places in the arcade have obvious patterns representing various cities in Italy, such as the bull in Turin, the she-wolf in Rome, the lily in Florence, the red cross in Milan and so on. There is a very famous picture of a bull in the arcade. It is said that if you step on its key part with your heel and turn clockwise three times, luck will come. At present, the place has been ground into a pit. This promenade is also a must-see shopping destination for shopping lovers in Milan. Chinatown

Chinatown's main street is Via Paolo Sarpi. The Chinese community here developed gradually from early immigrants, many of whom came from Zhejiang and started out with small textile and leather workshops. Today, it is one of the oldest and largest Chinese neighborhoods in Italy. Red lanterns hang between old-fashioned Milanese storefronts, and shops line the approx. 1 km-long street, creating a mix of Chinese and Western streetscapes that is perfect for a stroll. Most of Via Paolo Sarpi is a pedestrian street. The street is lined with clothing stores, Asian supermarkets, bakeries, bubble tea shops, and Chinese restaurants. You can find Cantonese roast meats, dim sum, hot pot, Lanzhou beef noodles, and handmade dumplings. Many of the establishments are run by people with roots in Zhejiang, offering a mix of hometown flavors and dishes from across China. This area is located in the northwest of Milan's old town, right next to Parco Sempione and the Arco della Pace. Around the Spring Festival, the streets are decorated with lanterns, and the nearby Arco della Pace area often hosts celebrations like dragon and lion dances, making you feel as if you have returned to a bustling market back home.Milan · 6.9km from Sesto San Giovanni

Via Monte Napoleone is the core street of Milan's "Fashion Quadrilateral," forming a dense shopping district with Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga, and Corso Venezia. The street's layout follows the old city walls built during the era of the Roman Emperor Maximian. In the first half of the 19th century, it was rebuilt in a neoclassical style, with aristocratic mansions lining the street. The street name originates from a public debt bank that was located here during the Napoleonic era. After World War II, it gradually grew into a pivotal commercial street in the international fashion world. The street is lined with numerous international brand flagship stores, jewelry shops, and classic watch workshops, where high fashion and exquisite window displays complement each other. Strolling along the street, the elegant building facades and staggered porticoes are highly worth seeing, creating a uniquely charming fashionable artistic landscape. During Milan Fashion Week, this street becomes a gathering place for buyers, fashion editors, and street-style photographers. The entire street is approx. 350m long, with an elegant atmosphere that connects the surrounding rich urban commercial and cultural fabric. It is close to the Duomo and Teatro alla Scala, making it a suitable stop on a walking route through the city center.Milan · 7.6km from Sesto San Giovanni

Arco della Pace

4.7/5

Arco della Pace is a neoclassical triumphal arch in Milan, standing in the square north of Sforza Castle and at the end of Parco Sempione, and it is also the starting point of Corso Sempione. This area has been a gateway to Milan since ancient times: the Porta Giovia was located nearby in the Roman era, and the medieval city gate was later gradually incorporated into the castle's defense system; today, this triumphal arch and the old toll houses on either side are the remnants of the layout left by the Porta Sempione that was opened later. Its history has had many twists and turns. Napoleon ordered its foundation to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Jena, originally intending to build a "Gate of Victory" as the starting point of the Simplon Road leading to Paris; before the project was completed, Napoleon fell from power, and construction came to a halt. Later, the Austrians who took over Milan continued the construction and rededicated it to the peace restored among European nations after the Congress of Vienna, hence the name "Arco della Pace." Dramatically, Napoleon III and Victor Emmanuel II entered Milan in triumph through this very gate. The bronze sculptures on top of the arch are worth a closer look: the Goddess of Peace stands on a chariot drawn by six horses, holding an olive branch symbolizing peace in her right hand; at the four corners of the arch, there are also Victories on horseback offering laurel wreaths and palm branches. The arch features three parallel archways, and the stone surface is decorated with reliefs of historical scenes such as the Battle of Leipzig and the Congress of Vienna, as well as personifications of rivers like the Po and the Ticino. Starting from Sforza Castle and walking through Parco Sempione toward the arch, you can capture the castle, the green space, and the triumphal arch all in one frame.Milan · 7.6km from Sesto San Giovanni

San Bernardino alle Ossa

4.6/5
103 reviews
San Bernardino alle Ossa is located not far to the southeast of Milan Cathedral. Its exterior is unassuming, but what truly makes it famous is the ossuary in the side chapel. Passing through a long, narrow corridor from the entrance, you enter this small chapel whose walls are almost entirely covered with skulls and long bones: the bones are embedded into patterns, spreading along the walls, niches, and lintels, intertwining with Rococo decorative tastes to create a solemn yet magnificent impression. The dome features a fresco painted by artist Sebastiano Ricci, depicting angels carrying souls ascending to heaven, directly facing the rows of bones below; the altar houses a 17th-century statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, with the Virgin Mary kneeling beside the dead Christ. The church's history of storing remains dates back to the early 13th century: at that time, the cemetery of a nearby hospital was full, so a dedicated ossuary was set aside to store the remains, and a church was later built next to it. During the 17th-century renovation, the bones were rearranged into decorative patterns covering the small chapel; a fire in 1712 destroyed the main body of the church, after which it was rebuilt under the direction of architect Carlo Giuseppe Merlo, forming the current Baroque style with an octagonal plan and dome. The main church is a simple octagonal hall, featuring a Baroque altar and several side chapels, housing paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries. The church is compact, making it a convenient addition to your itinerary when visiting the Milan Cathedral area.Milan · 8.2km from Sesto San Giovanni

It was founded by Saint Ambrogio (Ambrogio), who also built three to four other churches around Milan, and he is buried here. The church's crypt once held the remains of many saints, but after numerous restorations the exact locations can no longer be identified. After multiple restorations and reconstructions, the church took on its present Romanesque style in the 12th century, while the nave, the two aisles, and the semicircular apse remain as they were originally.Milan · 8.8km from Sesto San Giovanni

It is a place where luxury goods are shoulder to shoulder, the streets are not wide but have a long history, the layout and decoration of the windows are full of creativity, and they look low-key and luxurious. Sometimes homeless people sleep peacefully on the street, which does not seem out of place.

Milan's Arch of Peace feels a bit like the Arc de Triomphe, but it's a little smaller. When you come to Milan for a tour, you can check in and take photos at these places. This city still has many good classics.

The Church of Sant'Ambrero is also a very quiet little place. The hotels near the church are very suitable for visiting here. There are not many people in the morning, and it is very quiet after seven o'clock. You can take more photos and feel the warmth of the sunrise. The church also has a very exquisite appearance and unique design culture.
