Balamuri Falls ಬಲಮುರಿ ಜಲಪಾತ

Balamuri Falls is located in Mandya District, Karnataka, India, near Srirangapatna and Mysore. It was formed by a barrage on the Kaveri River, allowing the river water to cascade into a wide, shallow waterfall. The gentle flow of the waterfall is perfect for treading in the water or playing along its banks, especially when the river is full. The surrounding area is lush and green, dotted with coconut trees and other tropical species, creating a tranquil scene with a natural and rural atmosphere. Balamuri Falls is open year-round, but summer is peak season for refreshing dips and swimming. The water level at the falls is relatively low, making it a great place for strolling and playing. Winter is also a great time to visit, offering picnics and leisurely strolls. Seasonal boat rides are available at the falls when the water level is high enough. There are also food stalls where visitors can purchase fresh produce.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a meticulously designed wetland sanctuary for bird and nature enthusiasts, nestled among a cluster of small islands on the banks of the Cauvery River. Renowned for its tranquil beauty and diverse birdlife, it offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and a chance to connect with nature. The sanctuary boasts a remarkably natural setting: the river surrounds several small islands, which are isolated during the rainy season and when the river rises, providing a safe breeding environment for birds. Reeds and riverine vegetation line the riverbanks, while broadleaf and bamboo forests grow on the islands, creating a rich and diverse habitat. Visitors can take a boat trip between the river and the islands, approaching bird nests from the water and observing the lives and flights of various waterfowl, including pelicans, storks, sleeping ducks, waders, and herons. Sightings of waterside and aquatic animals, such as crocodiles and river otters, can also be a pleasant surprise.
