The Cactus Garden
Located in the volcanic rock formations of Lanzarote, Jardin de Cactus was built by local artist Cesar Manrique from an abandoned quarry. The park features a radial terraced layout and is planted with cacti of various shapes. The low walls made of white volcanic stone form a visual contrast with the dark lava background. In the center, an 18th-century stone windmill is preserved, and its wooden blades can still turn with the wind. The trail system in the park guides visitors to observe cactus species from different continents, and some areas simulate desert ecology to set up sandy microenvironments. It is recommended to choose the early morning hours to avoid strong light, when dew often condenses on the tips of cactus thorns.
