Oriental Village

7.3
4.3/5
401 reviews
Oriental Villageis located at the foot of Langkawi's highest mountain,Mount Machinchang, and is a resort that combines shopping, hotels, spas, and various entertainment facilities. The famous Langkawi SkyCab and SkyBridge are located here. Additionally, this was once a filming location for the Chow Yun-fat movie "Anna and the King." It takes approx. 15 minutes to drive from Langkawi Airport toOriental Village. The center of the park features a garden with an East Asian flair, containing shops selling traditional clothing and handicrafts. There is also a lake in the middle of the park, surrounded by several nice restaurants with delicious food and reasonable prices that are worth trying. The main purpose for visitors coming toOriental Villageis to ride theLangkawi SkyCab, which is one of the longest and most advanced cable cars in the world, taking you from the flat ground up to the mountain peak over 700m high. You can purchase cable car tickets through the official website or at the ticket window at the scenic area. Bottled water is not allowed on the cable car, and there are often long queues. The cable car has two stations; you don't have to get off at the first one and can ride all the way to the top. The mountain wind is strong, and the cable car ride can be shaky. The cable car and the bridge are closed during rain or bad weather. The temperature on the mountain is 4–5 degrees lower than on the ground. Upon reaching the summit, there are two platforms for visitors to overlook the entire island. The higher observation deck is built on a peak at an altitude of 705m. Along the way, you can see wild animals and plants growing in the rainforest, and you can even see Langkawi's Seven Wells Waterfall. Once at the observation deck, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire Langkawi island and even some islands in Thailand. Those with courage can walk across the skywalk spanning the canyon, commonly known as the SkyBridge. It is a steel suspension bridge winding between two mountain peaks and is also the world's largest curved suspension bridge, with a total length of about 200m. When the weather is good, the dense forest below is clearly visible; when it is foggy, the feeling of being surrounded by clouds and mist is like being in a fairyland. However, because the mountain wind is quite strong, it will still feel shaky when walking, so it is recommended that those who are timid or afraid of heights should not try it lightly. You can also send postcards at the mid-level sky shop, though the prices are quite expensive. In addition to the cable car, there are many other recreational facilities in Oriental Village, such as a 3D museum, 6D cinema, and ATV rides, which you can try if you are interested. Furthermore, there is a shopping center in Oriental Village where you can buy some handicrafts.Langkawi · 14.3km from downtown

No. 17 of Best Things to Do in Malaysia

Langkawi SkyBridge

7.2
4.7/5
1.2k reviews
Langkawi SkyBridge is suspended atop the mountains of Langkawi's main island in Malaysia. This 100-m-long curved pedestrian bridge sits over 600 m above sea level. Its structure is unique among similar bridges: the entire curved span is supported by a single tower fixed to the mountainside, with multiple steel cables extending downward from the tower to suspend the deck midair between two peaks, creating the sensation of crossing a deep valley. During construction, all components were prefabricated below and airlifted by helicopter for assembly—this engineering ingenuity alone makes it noteworthy. The name "SkyBridge" comes from its perpetual suspension among mountain clouds. The bridge's intentional curve shifts perspectives as you walk, with a glass-paneled midsection offering direct views of the valley and primal rainforest below. From the railings, you can see the green ridges of ancient mountains, the vast Andaman Sea, and scattered islands. Triangular viewing platforms at both ends provide ideal spots for photos. To access the bridge, take the cable car to the summit station, then transfer to the SkyGlide inclined elevator or hike a steep 15-min trail. Mountain weather changes rapidly—fog can obscure views, so visit on clear days for optimal panoramas.Langkawi · 15.8km from downtown

It is one of the most beautiful zoos I have ever visited. It is home to a fairly large number of animal species. You can feed various animals (under the supervision of zoo staff, of course)—this was the part I enjoyed the most, especially when I got to feed different species of parrots. It was also very entertaining to watch the zookeeper feed the otters, which are incredibly playful. Also, at the entrance, there was a very charming animal with large eyes, but I have forgotten the name of its species. The staff as usual was very friendly and helpful and you could pet but gently this small animal under their guidance.
