Liqian Ancient City is located at the Liqian Ruins in Zhelaizhai Village, Yongchang County. It is a square castle structure that mainly includes a restored ancient city, Roman-style residences, a Roman temple, a Roman street, and a Roman square. The core building of the ancient city is a Roman-style Pantheon. Surrounding the main building is a city wall that is 300m long, 10m wide, and 5.6m high. The wall has four gate towers on its four sides and four corner towers at its four corners, with the interior of the wall used as housing. In 53 BC, Crassus, the Roman consul, gathered the forces of seven legions to invade Parthia (in present-day Iran) and was ambushed and annihilated at Carrhae. After Crassus's eldest son Publius broke out with the First Legion, he suddenly vanished without a trace. Two thousand years later, this ancient Roman army was suddenly discovered in Gansu, China. Thislong-standinghistorical mystery became the origin and development opportunity of the ancient city. It is said that the ancient city was built according to historical records. The entire ancient city is a temple (Golden Mountain Temple). At its center is a Roman temple with 5 golden domes. Classic Roman stone columns, Catholic cross patterns on the exterior walls, church-style stained glass windows, and bronze doors carved with scenes of ancient Romans and bodhisattvas. Various elements are fully blended here.Yongchang · 11.7km from downtown

The Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple is located in the urban area of Zhangye. It was first built during the Yong'an era of the Western Xia Dynasty and has a history of over 900 years. The temple is renowned for housing one of China's largest indoor clay reclining Buddha statues, along with other distinctive ancient structures such as the earthen pagoda and the Shanxi Guild Hall, which are open for visits. Exhibitions inside the temple help travelers understand Buddhist art and the history of the Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple. As one of Zhangye's iconic attractions, it is a must-see for visitors to the city. The current site of the temple is not large, with a depth of approx. 200 m and a width of approx. 100 m. Visitors can enter from the western square and explore on foot. The main buildings open for visits, from west to east, include the Giant Buddha Hall, the Hall of Ten Thousand Saints (now the Buddhist Art Exhibition Hall), the Scripture Hall (now the Buddhist Texts Exhibition Hall), the earthen pagoda, and the Shanxi Guild Hall. A complete tour takes approx. 1–2 hrs. The Giant Buddha Hall is the temple's most significant structure and the highlight for travelers. It features one of China's largest indoor clay reclining Buddha statues, depicting the Nirvana of Sakyamuni. The statue measures 34.5 m in length and 7.5 m in shoulder width—so massive that a single finger can accommodate a lying person, and one ear can seat 10 people side by side. The hall also houses statues of the Ten Great Disciples and the Eighteen Arhats, along with exquisite murals depicting Journey to the West and the Classic of Mountains and Seas. The Hall of Ten Thousand Saints and the Scripture Hall, located in the central area, now serve as exhibition spaces for Buddhist art and texts, displaying sculptures, grotto statues, scriptures, and other artifacts. Notable among these is a collection of over 6,000 Buddhist scriptures personally bestowed by Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty, many written in pure gold, which are the temple's prized treasures. The earthen pagoda, standing over 30 m tall, is east of the Giant Buddha Hall. Its two-tiered base features four small pagodas on each level, adorned with exquisite carvings and housing solemn Buddha statues. The Shanxi Guild Hall, situated northeast of the temple complex, was originally a merchant guild hall during the Qing Dynasty. This typical northwestern residential courtyard features ancient architecture with intricately carved beams and painted pillars, exuding rustic elegance.China · Zhangye

Tengger Desert is the fourth largest desert in China. Tengger Mongolian means sky, which means the vast quicksand is like a boundless sky. There are hundreds of lakes that have survived for tens of millions of years in the desert, the more famous ones are Swan Lake and Moon Lake. Under the blue sky, the desert is vast, desolate and majestic, the rolling sand dunes for thousands of miles are scattered like frozen waves, and the soft lines show its extraordinary charm. Moon Lake resembles a map of China, half is a freshwater lake and half is a saltwater lake. Swan Lake is about 35 kilometers away from the north and south of Moon Lake. It is surrounded by a vast desert, with rolling sand dunes and rolling sand waves. The scene is magnificent and refreshing. Swan Lake and Moon Lake are big and small. They set off each other and have their own charms, attracting a large number of tourists.China · Alxa Left Banner

The ancient city of Liqian in Yongchang County was a truly amazing experience. The overall architectural style is reminiscent of ancient Rome, and the original inhabitants have distinct physical characteristics that are different from those of other Chinese people. It was a very worthwhile experience!

This is designed by Zhang Li from the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University. In the field of architecture, Zhang Li is undoubtedly one of the authorities. The Jinchang Cultural Center in 2007 is an architectural work that Zhang Li truly presided over and was satisfied with. The southwest interface of the cultural center is decomposed into more than 20 solid walls facing west and glass facing south. The plane is uneven and the facade is not vertical. This design method makes the building produce light and shadows that contrast between reality and illusion, like a forest rising resolutely on the Gobi Desert. Entering the building is like looking for a space to hide in hide-and-seek. "For me personally, the Jinchang Cultural Center project completed my beginner stage. I was 37 years old at the time, but it was the first time that the actual building was very close to my imagination." So, don't you come and see it in person?

The reclining Buddha is breathtaking, and the background paintings behind it are surprisingly profound. They contain the earliest depictions of the journey to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures, so be sure to take a good look. There are also many other Buddhist scriptures in the collection, making it well worth a visit.

A few years ago, my husband's sister came to this place and cried for the desolation of the city where her eldest brother lived. More than ten years later, I came here and found that this city should be rated as a "National Excellent Sanitation City" because it belongs to a water-scarce and drought-stricken area. The fact that there are lush trees and large flowers in bloom in this city and many parks for recreation and leisure in this city is the interpretation of man conquering nature! It does not have unique natural conditions but has green shades. It is surrounded by the loess rocks of the Gobi Desert but is still full of vitality. Therefore, it deserves to be rated as a "National Excellent Sanitation City". If all parts of the country work hard to change like this, there will be no smog and no pollution!

Upon arriving at the Yellow River area, we headed straight there. We wanted to try the famous "Flying Yellow River" (Yellow River Zipline). The package included a round-trip cable car ticket uphill, which was thoughtful, but it was incredibly crowded today. We queued for almost an hour, put on the ropes, and when it was our turn, we were told we couldn't wear glasses! My heart sank. But the ride itself was still exhilarating, and we were even able to ride back up – excellent value for money! Afterwards, we went sandboarding. No long queues! We found a less crowded, steep slope, sat firmly, gripped the board tightly, didn't brake, closed our eyes, and just went down. The sand was fine, the speed was fast, the wind was whistling, and landing with a mouthful of sand was still fun. Finally, a reminder: bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and be careful as dust easily gets into your phone in the sand. Put it in a sealed bag, and wash your face in the Yellow River afterwards – perfect!

There was a student activity going on at Wenchang Palace, so it was a bit chaotic. The 44 plaques here are quite interesting. The statues in Dacheng Hall are all new. The exhibition at the Printing Museum is quite good.
