Lake Brienz

102 reviews
Lake Brienz is located at the northern foot of the Alps, named after the village of Brienz on the northeast side of the lake, while Interlaken lies on its southwest side. Surrounded by steep peaks, a boat tour on Lake Brienz offers breathtaking views of the Alpine scenery. The glacial meltwater carries fine rock flour, giving the entire lake a rare turquoise hue that becomes especially vivid on sunny days. Paired with the steep cliffs and dense forests on both shores, every snapshot looks like a postcard—a highly distinctive hallmark of this lake. Themed cruise with rich experiences Lake Brienz cruise offers various types of experiences. In addition to regular sightseeing cruises, it also provides special themed cruise activities, such as "breakfast cruise", "Indian dinner cruise tour", or "fish and jazz tour" on the cruise ship deck, etc. These are worth experiencing for travelers who love Swiss cuisine. Visit the village of Brienz The village of Brienz on the east shore of the lake is a particularly quiet small town, with fewer visitors during the off-peak season, making it perfect for strolling. You can also take the historic steam train—the Brienz-Rothorn Railway—to reach Rothorn. Giessbach Falls Another destination of the Lake Brienz cruise is the Giessbach Falls, where white waterfalls cascade down from 500 m high into the lake, crashing against rocks with a deafening roar, creating a spectacular sight. Beside the falls stands the Giessbach Hotel, resembling a fairytale castle full of dreamy charm. Cycling and hikes around the lake Lake Brienz is also ideal for cycling around the lake, with well-planned bike routes that allow you to experience the beauty of the lake up close. There are significant elevation changes during the ride, and fog may occur in rainy weather, so it is recommended to choose a suitable route based on your fitness level. Of course, there are also popular hiking trails here, such as walking along the southern shore of Lake Brienz, starting from Bönigen and passing through Iseltwald to reach Giessbach.Iseltwald · 1.7km from downtown

Hoheweg

Hoheweg is the main street of Interlaken and a tree-lined thoroughfare connecting Interlaken Ost and West stations. Interlaken serves as the gateway for sightseeing in the Jungfrau region, where travelers from around the world often stop for a transfer, making it the town's most popular spot, bustling with visitors year-round. Shops, hotels, and restaurants are densely packed along the street, with watch shops and souvenir stores side by side, selling Swiss watches, handmade ceramics, and textiles, featuring patterns that incorporate both rustic elements of the Bernese Highlands and modern design. On one side lies the open lawn known as the Hohematte, originally a monastery garden and now preserved as a public green space; on clear days, you can see the snow-capped peak of the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe from the street at the end of the lawn, and paragliders frequently drift down from the mountains, landing slowly on the grass, often causing passersby to stop and look up. There are plenty of benches and outdoor seating; sitting down to rest when tired and watching the flow of people against the backdrop of the distant snow-capped mountains is a typical scene for visitors here.Interlaken · 8.2km from Iseltwald

Hohematte is an open lawn square in the center of Interlaken, serving as the town's green lung. Standing here and looking south, the view is completely unobstructed, with the snow-capped peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau directly in front of you, making it the signature spot in Interlaken for viewing the Jungfrau. It features fountains and benches. During the day, people often picnic, sunbathe, or play soccer here, and it is also quite pleasant for an evening stroll. It also serves as a landing site for paragliders. On clear days, colorful paragliders circle down from the mountains and land on the grass.Interlaken · 8.4km from Iseltwald

Lake Thun is located on the Bernese Oberland between Thun and Interlaken. The lake is deep blue and crystal clear, and there are not only beautiful views of the Alps around the lake, but also traditional Swiss wooden villages. The summer resort Lake Thun is a local summer family holiday resort. There are many holiday houses along the coast, and you can see many people swimming, playing in the water or cycling and hiking, which is very lively. In addition, it is also popular with sailing enthusiasts for its very good breeze. A boat cruise is the best way to experience Lake Thun, starting from the pier next to Interlaken West Station, roaming west through the narrow waterway, and soon looking back at the magnificent scenery of the Jungfrau region. The cruise ships will stop at several stops along the lake, especially the famous town of Spiez. The end of the cruise is the medieval city of Thun on the west bank of the lake. The whole route takes about 2 hours one way. Cycling around the lake Many Swiss people love to ride bicycles along Lake Thun. Although there are more than 50 kilometers of roads around the lake, it is very exhausting, but the scenery along the way will be very enjoyable. Of course, you can also choose to ride one of the distances, and I believe you will have a good experience. Hiking in the mountains around Lake Thun is a great place to go on foot, and there is something special about the panoramic views of Lake Thun from tops such as the Niederhorn.Sigriswil · 18.6km from Iseltwald

The Eiger, located in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, is part of the Alps and is world-famous for its steep north wall. With an altitude of about 3,970 meters, the Eiger is a challenge for mountaineering enthusiasts. Its north wall is famous for its extremely challenging climbing routes, attracting many experienced climbers to try to conquer it. For tourists who do not climb, there are a wealth of activities around the Eiger. The Jungfrau Railway can easily reach the viewpoints near the Eiger and enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery and glaciers. The hiking routes along the way are suitable for hikers of different levels and provide opportunities to get close to nature. In winter, the ski resorts around the Eiger are a paradise for ski enthusiasts. It is recommended that tourists check the weather forecast in advance before going to the Eiger, as the unpredictable mountain climate may affect travel plans.Grindelwald · 15.2km from Iseltwald

Schilthorn

4.4/5
204 reviews
Schilthorn is located in the Alps south of Interlaken, with an altitude of 2,970 meters. It is surrounded by well-known peaks such as Jungfrau and Eiger. Schilthorn is famous for the thrilling fight scenes in the 007 series "The Queen's Order". In summer, you can experience two different landscapes. If you go to Schilthorn in summer, when you reach the foot of the mountain, you can see green grass, local huts, and free-range cattle and sheep; It's another world, full of snow-covered scenes. Climbing by glass box cable car The main way for tourists to climb the Schilthorn is to take the cable car, but the difference is that this is a large glass box that can accommodate 80 people and moves up the mountain at a fast speed. The process of taking the cable car to the Schilthorn is fascinating, first from Stechelberg, 867 meters above sea level, to Gimmelwald, 1368 meters above sea level, and then to Mürren, Birg, and the process of changing the cable car. You will continue to experience the feeling of a real bird's-eye view. Even through the glass of the cable car, the photos taken are still shocking. The exciting ascent experience is a more thrilling section from Murren at 1638 meters to Birg at 2677 meters. In less than 10 minutes, the altitude is raised by 1 kilometer, and people will constantly exclaim at the beautiful scenery outside the window when ascending. I also continued to experience the feeling of weightlessness. From the Schilthorn Observation Deck, you can see the end of the cable car at the Schilthorn Observation Deck, which is 2970 meters above sea level. This is the place where the 007 movie was filmed. There are countless majestic peaks around the Schilthorn. From afar, you can see the Jungfrau, Eiger and Moshi, which are also among the mountains. 360-degree revolving panorama restaurant There is a revolving restaurant PizGloria on the top of the mountain. When the weather is good, you can dine here. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the peaks. Every time you turn a section, there will be an iron sign with a clear icon to tell you who you are facing at this angle. Which are the peaks and their elevations. The restaurant has special recommended dishes every day, which are worth experiencing. Photo with "Bond" There is also a James Bond figure with a pistol on the viewing platform, and you can take pictures with the "celebrity". If you have enough time, you can also enter the octagonal theater in the observation deck to watch an 18-minute multi-view Schilthorn region scenery film, including highlights from the 007 movie.Lauterbrunnen · 19.8km from Iseltwald

Town of Spiez

111 reviews
Town of Spiez is situated on the southern shore of Lake Thun in the Bernese Highlands of Switzerland, nestled in a bay enclosed by two lush, wooded peninsulas. Vineyards on the hillsides stretch down to the lake, a medieval castle stands by the shore, and the Niesen peak on the opposite bank connects to the Bernese Alps. The castle, vineyards, blue lake, and snow-capped mountains framed together create a classic scene in many travelers' photos. The core view here is Spiez Castle and the adjacent Romanesque castle church. The tower was built right by the water and now houses a museum, where the Knight's Hall and period room furnishings tell the history of the local noble families, and the church still preserves Romanesque frescoes. A viewpoint overlooking the entire bay is located by the road above the castle. The hillside vineyards are a rare wine-growing region in the Bernese Highlands, cultivating varieties such as Pinot Noir and Riesling-Sylvaner, and the loop around the bay is easy to walk with expansive views. In summer, you can also swim by the lake, look back at the castle from the water, or take a Lake Thun cruise into the bay for a different perspective.Spiez · 21.9km from Iseltwald

Murren is situated on a cliff terrace on the west side of the Lauterbrunnen valley, where wooden houses, meadows, and quiet streets remain preserved. Next to it is an open viewing area, where the three snow-capped peaks of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe stand in a row directly across the valley. You can reach this place by going up from the Lauterbrunnen side at the valley floor, or by taking a cable car from the direction of Stechelberg, which climbs almost right along the cliff face, with waterfalls and deep valleys sweeping beneath you. From here, the route towards Grütschalp faces the snow-capped mountains the entire way, accompanied by meadows, wooden houses, and valley scenery. There is also an interpretive trail themed around the mountaineering history of the Eiger North Face, allowing you to read about the history of the mountains as you walk.Murren · 17.8km from Iseltwald

The last boat from Interlaken East Station to Lake Brienz was at 15:07, and when we went there, the boat had just left. The staff taught us to take the bus to Brienz, and then catch the boat at 16:40, and take the boat from Brienz back to Interlaken. We bought a second-class Swiss pass, which allows free boat rides. There are not many seats in the second-class cabin, but there are more open-air seats. If you are afraid of the cold, you can get on the boat earlier. I sat in the restaurant at first and thought I had to consume, but after sitting for a while, I realized that there was no mandatory requirement.

Herweg Street is to Interlaken what Chang'an Avenue is to Beijing and Nanjing Road is to Shanghai. Herweg Street is 1,400 meters long. The east end is the East Railway Station and the west end is the West Railway Station. Both sides are full of luxurious hotels, elegant restaurants and various shops. The south side of the middle section of the street is the green Holhemat Green. Visiting Herweg is a must for Interlaken. The happiest thing is to look south on the street. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the Jungfrau often shows its heroic appearance in the mist, inviting people who love it to take a photo together. The most worry-free thing is that there are always tourists speaking Chinese dialects from all over the world on the street, and there are always shop assistants speaking standard Mandarin in shops, especially watch shops. Asking for directions and buying a watch, language communication is not a problem. The most annoying thing is that there are many public toilets on the street, all of which are advanced coin-operated access control, 1~2 Swiss francs per time. If you want to find free ones, it’s impossible in shops and too difficult in restaurants. Don’t forget to bring a few Swiss francs with you when you go shopping.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain destinations, offering an unforgettable experience high in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by magnificent snow-covered peaks, vast glaciers, and breathtaking alpine scenery, the journey to the summit is an adventure itself. The panoramic views from the top are truly mesmerizing, especially on a clear day when the mountains seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon. Walking through the snowy landscape feels like entering a winter wonderland. The impressive Aletsch Glacier adds even more beauty to the experience. Jungfraujoch is a must-visit destination for travelers who love mountains, snow, photography, and extraordinary natural landscapes.

On the fourth day of the Swiss trip, we stayed at the Belvedere Swiss Quality Hotel in Grindelwald. The balcony of the view room faced the Eiger Peak and the Dream Hill. The Eiger Peak felt very ordinary and the Dream Hill was very beautiful, but the room was on a too low floor and the photos we took could not show the perfect view.

I wanted to go to Jungfraujoch, but the weather was bad. It was foggy and hard to see clearly. I took the train and then the cable car. I was a little disappointed. Of course, the scenery should be beautiful when the weather is clear.

The town of Spiez on Lake Thun is an absolutely charming place to visit. It is backed by mountains, faces vineyards and, most magnificently, is crowned by a splendid castle. The Niederhorn mountain range above the lake stretches all the way to the Bernese Alps, creating a magnificent panorama. The mild climate and bright sunshine make it an ideal starting point for exploring the many famous tourist attractions in the Bernese Oberland or Valais. Spiez Castle is a highlight here, as is the castle gardens. From the castle, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the lake and the surrounding area. Likewise, a detour to the castle church is worthwhile. There are many hiking and cycling trails around Spiez. In addition, the neighboring cities of Thun and Interlaken are also great for day trips. Last but not least, the Bernese Oberland is easily accessible from Spiez.
