Mount Hua
Mount Hua, formerly known as "Xiyue", is one of the five famous mountains in China. It is located in Huayin City, Shaanxi Province. Huashan is also known as "Taihuashan". It is the birthplace of Chinese civilization. The "Hua" in "Zhonghua" and "Huaxia" comes from Huashan. The words "strange and dangerous" are the essence of Huashan's scenery. There are many landscapes on the West Peak, including Cuiyun Palace, Lotus Cave, Giant Spirit Foot, Axe-Split Stone, Sheshen Cliff, etc., and there are many beautiful myths and legends. Among them, the well-known story of Chenxiang splitting the mountain to save his mother is circulated here. The South Peak is over 2,100 meters above sea level and is the highest peak of Huashan. The ancients called it the "Head of Huashan". On one side of the South Peak is a thousand-foot cliff, standing straight like a knife, and below is a deep ravine, which is separated from Sangong Mountain and Sanfeng Mountain. The South Peak consists of one peak and two peaks. The east side is called Songhui Peak, and the west side is Luoyan Peak. The golden essence of the White Emperor mobilizes his vitality, and the stones become lotus flowers and the clouds become platforms." The famous story of "Taking Huashan by Strategy" took place here. There are many landscapes on the mountain, including the Zhenwu Hall, Jiaogong Stone Chamber, Changchun Stone Chamber, and the place where Laojun hung the plow. The Middle Peak is the only way to the other four peaks. It is located in the middle of the East, West and South Peaks. The forests on the peak are lush and green, and the environment is quiet. There is a Taoist temple named Yunu Temple on the top of the peak. It is said that it was the place where Qin Mu Gong's daughter Nong Yu cultivated herself in the Spring and Autumn Period, so it is also called Yunu Peak. Skywalk The Changkong Plank Road is located on the east side of the Huashan South Peak. He built it by inlaying stone piles on the cliffs and paving wooden boards. At the end of the plank road, you can see the "Hezu Cave" where Master He practiced self-cultivation. Visitors must stick to the cliff wall, pull the iron chain with their hands, step on the wooden boards, and move forward slowly sideways. Xiyue Temple Xiyue Temple, also known as Huayue Temple, is a temple where emperors of all dynasties worshipped and offered sacrifices to Shaohao, the Great Emperor of Xiyue. It was first built during the Yuanguang period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (134-129 BC) at the entrance of Huangshengu (now Huangfuyu) at the foot of Huashan Mountain. It was moved to its current location during the reign of Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty (147-167 AD) and renamed today. It was rebuilt many times during the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. Canglong Ridge The steps on Canglong Ridge are only 2 feet wide, with deep ravines on both sides, as steep as a knife. The height difference between the ridge and the top is about 500 meters, and the slope is more than 45 degrees. Looking at the green pines and white clouds in the distance and hearing the sound of the wind is dizzying. Jinsuoguan Jinsuoguan is one of the five passes of Huashan Mountain. Xiyue Temple
Xiyue Temple, also known as Huayue Temple, is consecrated to emperors of the past and sacrificed to the Xiyue emperor Shao Hao, having been rebuilt multiple times throughout the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. The main buildings of Xiyue Temple are distributed on the central axis in a north-south alignment. The outer city is a Ming Dynasty building with a turret. Jade Spring Temple
Yuquanyuan is located at the foot of Huashan Mountain. It is the main place for Taoist activities in Huashan Mountain and a must-go place for tourists to visit Huashan Mountain from Huashan Valley. Legend has it that when Chen Tuan played chess with Zhao Kuangyin on Huashan Mountain, Zhao Kuangyin lost Huashan Mountain to Chen Tuan and exempted him from taxes. Since then, many Taoists have come here to practice. Yuquanyuan is a garden building with Huashan Mountain on its back and towering ancient trees around it. There is a spring in the courtyard with sweet and clear spring water. According to legend, Princess Jinxian of the Tang Dynasty drew water from the Jade Well of Zhenyue Palace on the mountain to wash her hair. She accidentally dropped her jade hairpin into the water. After returning to Yuquanyuan, she accidentally found the jade hairpin when washing her hands with spring water. She knew that this spring was the same as the Jade Well, so she named this spring Yuquan. Yuquanyuan got its name from this. There is Xiyi Temple in Yuquanyuan, and its name comes from the title of "Mr. Xiyi" given to Chen Tuan by Emperor Taizong of Song Dynasty. Xiyi Temple is divided into two halls, the front hall and the back hall. On the left side of the front hall is the "Huashan Complete Map Stele", and on the right side is the "First Mountain" stele handwritten by Song Dynasty calligrapher Mi Fu. There is a statue of Chen Tuan in the back hall. Shansun Pavilion was built on a large stone. It is said that Chen Tuan often watched the mountain scenery and wrote books here. There is an ancient tree next to the pavilion, named Wuyou Tree, which is said to be planted by Chen Tuan. The back hall is the main activity place of Huashan Taoism. On the door hangs a plaque with the words "Tao Chong Qing Miao" written by Empress Dowager Cixi. There is an "Itchy Tree" in the middle. Mount Hua South Peak
Mount Hua South Peak, at an altitude of 2,160.8 m, is the highest peak of Mount Hua. It has one peak with two summits. The east summit is Songgui Peak, named for the many pine and cypress trees growing there. The west summit is Mount Hua South Peak, the highest point here. It is said that because the mountain is so high, wild geese cannot fly over it and must rest here, hence the name. Upon reaching the top, you can gaze into the distance with all other mountains beneath your feet. East Peak
Mount Hua's East Peak is one of the main peaks of Mount Hua. It is a great spot to watch the sunrise within the Mount Hua scenic area, which is why it is also known as Chaoyang Peak. The East Peak is composed of several peaks, including Shilou Peak, Botai, and Chaoyang Terrace. Legend has it that Emperor Taizu of Song, Zhao Kuangyin, once played chess here with the Taoist master Chen Tuan. After losing the game, he wagered Mount Hua to Chen Tuan, giving the pavilion its name, "Chess Pavilion." To reach the Chess Pavilion, you must traverse the dangerous cliff path known as "Yaozi Fanshen" (Sparrow Hawk Turns Over). Travelers with acrophobia or those who are faint of heart should assess their own comfort level before deciding whether to proceed. There is a saying about the sunrise at Mount Hua: "Nine out of ten days, it doesn't appear." This trip to Mount Hua left me with many impressions. First, the scenery is truly breathtaking; the sheer, rugged beauty of its steep cliffs is awe-inspiring. Second, the pines of Mount Hua, clinging to cliffs, rock faces, and winding mountain paths, display a myriad of shapes and forms, adding a touch of gentle vitality to the otherwise hard rock face—a harmonious blend of strength and softness. Third, the paths on Mount Hua require the use of both hands and feet; there's no room for carelessness. These are treacherous paths carved from sheer cliffs, a testament to the wisdom and ingenuity of countless craftsmen. Finally, the civilized and orderly management of Mount Hua's tourism infrastructure made visitors feel both warm and safe. From the hotel to the visitor center, and from the visitor center to the high-speed rail station, there was orderly queuing for pick-up and drop-off, without any crowding or anxiety. It was truly a unique service experience.

The West Peak Cableway of Mount Hua truly lives up to its name as an "aerial roller coaster," weaving between sheer cliffs and offering expansive views of the surrounding peaks and deep valleys. The ride is generally smooth, but there's a slight feeling of weightlessness when passing over the support structures—thrilling and breathtaking. It saves a significant amount of energy going downhill while providing a unique, high-altitude perspective of Mount Hua's perilous grandeur. Tickets are relatively expensive, so those with a fear of heights should consider this carefully.

The hotel is right next to the Xiyue Temple, about a 20-minute walk from Huashan North Railway Station, and a taxi to the Huashan Visitor Center costs around 10 yuan. Shopping and dining are also very convenient. The first floor is a bathhouse, and the second floor is for accommodation. Guests can enjoy free showers; a hot bath after climbing Huashan is incredibly relaxing. The only downside is that the hotel facilities are a bit old, but overall it offers excellent value for money.

It's quite a large complex, and inside there's a stele erected by Emperor Wu of Northern Zhou, Yuwen Yong, for his father—worth seeing. Ancient trees stand tall, many over 900 years old. Climb to the innermost Wanshou Tower for a panoramic view of the tower nestled among the trees, and gaze at Mount Hua in the distance, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Once you take the cable car up to the North Peak of Mount Hua, it's not far to the summit. President Chiang Kai-shek and Marshal Zhang Xueliang once took photos here. From the North Peak, you can see the other four peaks: East, West, North, and Central. The North Peak is shaped like a gold ingot and is very magnificent!

Family, I told you that this trip to climb Dongfeng on Huashan Mountain during the day is too worthwhile! The mountain road along the way was steep and dangerous. I was panting and I wanted to retreat several times, but I still insisted on it with a bite. When I arrived at the top of the mountain, the scenery in front of me directly stunned me!
