Yiwu Populus euphratica scenic area is located in Naomaohu Town, Yiwu County, Hami City, Xinjiang. It is one of the only three largest Populus euphratica forests in the world. It is a relatively concentrated Populus euphratica forest in China. It is also the oldest in the world, with unique tree shapes and good road accessibility. Excellent original Populus euphratica forest. The scenic area covers an area of 476,000 acres, and a 38-kilometer tourist ring has been developed. Populus euphratica, also known as "Hu Tong", is called "Tokela" in Uyghur, which means "very beautiful tree". Populus euphratica is a tree species that appeared 135 million years ago. It is the oldest poplar tree in the world. Biologists call it a "Tertiary living fossil." Populus euphratica is cold-resistant, heat-resistant, alkali-resistant, waterlogging-resistant, and drought-resistant. It used its indomitable body to block the invasion of the oasis by sandstorms, forming a majestic green corridor and creating the civilization of the "Silk Road". Along the 38-kilometer Populus euphratica forest landscape road, you can take a close look at Populus euphratica trees that are one thousand to nine thousand years old. It is like entering a time tunnel and experiencing the cycle of life. It can be said that once you walk into the Populus euphratica forest, you can experience ten thousand years of history in one day. Thousands of Populus euphratica trees stretch and sway in the Gobi Desert. Their different appearances in four seasons and changing colors day and night form a vivid picture. Today, the Yiwu Populus euphratica forest has become a creative paradise for photographers, painters, and poets, and it is also the cradle of the birth of excellent film and television works.Yiwu · 62.2km from downtown

On the vast grassland, there miraculously appeared a sand mountain about five kilometers long, made of quartz feldspar. The mountain runs from northeast to southwest, with a gentle slope in the west and steep slope in the east. There is a small river flowing at the foot. When people slide down from the top of the sand mountain, they can hear the sound coming from the inside of the mountain, like thousands of horses galloping and the surging sea tide, so it is named Mingsha Mountain. The sound of the sand in Hami Mingsha Mountain is so loud that it surpasses the three major sand sounds in China (Mingsha Mountain in Dunhuang, Gansu, Shapotou in Zhongwei County, Ningxia, and Xiangsha Bay in Baotou, Inner Mongolia). There is a local folk legend: When the female general Fan Lihua of the Tang Dynasty led troops to conquer the west, a battalion of female soldiers encountered the enemy. The battle was fierce. Due to the disparity in numbers, all the female soldiers were killed. Fan Lihua led her troops to the scene and defeated the enemy. She buried all the bodies of the female soldiers on the sand mountain. The ghosts of the female soldiers were unwilling to give in, and shouts of fighting were often heard from the bottom of the sand mountain. Based on this legend, people named this scenic spot "Shashan Tibetan Camp". Many years ago, archaeologists unearthed ancient weapons, saddles, and bones from the sand. It is said that this was the place where ancient warriors met. A general led 500 warriors to fight a bloody battle with the Huns, and the entire army died here.Yiwu · 83.4km from downtown

Barkol Lake is centered around the highland saltwater lake of the same name, known in ancient times as "Pulei Sea." The lake is nestled between the Barkol Mountains and the Moqinwula Mountains at an altitude of approx. 1,585m, formed by the confluence of meltwater and spring water from the surrounding mountains. A north-south sandbar divides the lake into eastern and western sections. The lake bed is rich in mirabilite and salt, and the lakeshore is connected to vast marshy wetlands and meadows. The lake area is particularly enchanting in midsummer: the lakeside pastures are lush and fertile, with Kazakh herders grazing their livestock along the lake, and white yurts and herds of cattle and sheep scattered across the meadows. When the wind is calm, the lake surface is like a mirror, reflecting the snow-capped mountains, blue sky, and clouds. Due to its high altitude, the lake area is cool in summer, making it a popular summer retreat in the Hami area.Barkol · 19.9km from downtown

Aletun Ancient Street Square is a cultural landmark in Huicheng Township, Hami City, Xinjiang. It is located in the core area of the Traditional Village Protection Area of Aletun Village. This street still retains the traditional pattern and earthen architectural style of the ancient Uyghur village. The gray-yellow exterior walls of the houses and the carved arched window lattices present a strong Western style. The square is particularly charming at night: under the warm yellow light, the century-old Brazilian mahogany on both sides of the street and the painted cultural walls complement each other. The square takes intangible cultural heritage as its soul, connecting the "four business cards" of Hami embroidery, gourd carving, peasant painting and Muqam art. The Muqam Research and Study Hall displays traditional musical instruments such as Ejek and hand drums. Visitors can not only appreciate the production skills, but also participate in improvisation. The intangible cultural heritage workshop focuses on displaying Uyghur flower hats, Edeles silk and other handicrafts, and the open-air seating area is often accompanied by impromptu folk music performances. The square is strategically located adjacent to attractions such as the Hami Palace and the Muqam Heritage Center. This square, which combines ancient architectural textures with modern cultural and tourism experiences, continues to write the contemporary chapter of the Silk Road Oasis with its vivid cultural vitality.Hami · 2.2km from downtown

The lake water is odorless and translucent. Because it contains 3.78 million tons of salt mines and mirabilite, the water has a bitter alkaline taste and is extremely salty alkaline water. The lake has neither exit nor entrance, and is formed by the collection of underground springs. Passing through Yanchi Township, I can see a lake with clear water and sky connected from a distance. I walked along the knee-deep grass to the lakeside. The magic of Symphony Lake is that it will show different colors as the weather changes. On a bright day, the lake is as blue as the sea. At sunset, the sunset glows, and the green is red; when the wind is about to blow, the lake is pink, and when it is about to rain, the lake is purple. Local herdsmen interestingly call it the "weather forecast" lake, which is often said to "go out to see the weather", and the Yanchi herdsmen "go out to see Huancai Lake".Yiwu · 41.5km from downtown

Hami Hui Mausoleum is located in the southern suburbs of Hami City. It is the cemetery of the nine generations of Hami Kings who ruled in Hami in history. In the scenic spot, you can see the original appearance of the mausoleums of the Hami kings in the past, visit the Hami King History Exhibition Hall, and learn about the historical stories about the Hami family. . The area of Huiwang Mausoleum is small, about 100 meters in length and width, and it takes about 1-2 hours to visit on foot. There is a square in the middle of the park. On the east side of the square is the larger mosque in Hami, the Etigar Mosque. There are some buildings scattered on the west side. It is the mausoleum of the Hui kings of all dynasties, all of which are preserved ancient buildings. A Huiwang History Exhibition Hall can be visited. The Etigar Mosque can be entered and visited. This mosque was built in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The scale is spectacular, with a length of 60 meters from east to west and a width of 38 meters from north to south. It can accommodate 5,000 people to worship at the same time. The temple does not enshrine any statues of people and animals, but decorates the walls with some geometric figures and flower patterns, and some symbols are written between the patterns, which is very local. There are also 108 wooden pillars painted with red paint in the temple. These wooden pillars are more than 300 years old and are still intact. There are many cemeteries next to King Gongbai of the 7th and 8th Kings, which are the cemeteries of other Hami kings and their families, as well as the prime ministers at that time, which can be visited one by one. There is also a historical exhibition hall of King Hami in the scenic spot, where items such as the throne of King Hami are displayed. Balikun Grassland is located in Balikun County, Hami Region, which is a larger grassland in Xinjiang. There are eight scenic spots and historic sites including "Songxue in Tianshan Mountain", "Aocheng in Hanhai", "Jingquan Suyue" and "Yuetai Liusheng". Balikun grassland is 1,650 meters above sea level, with crystal clear snow-capped mountains, green pine forests, shrouded in clouds and mist, and unpredictable. People call this beautiful scenery "Song Xue in Tianshan". Every year around the middle of May, the wind is bright and the sun is shining, and the grass rushes to emerge, and gradually grow taller in the comfort of the breeze and drizzle. In June and July, butterflies are flying, birds are chirping, green waves are rolling, and the scenery is very beautiful. The prairie is more lively in August. At this time, traditional Kazakh activities such as catching sheep, chasing girls, and Aken playing and singing will be held. By the end of October, the grassland had been covered with ice and snow, and there were no pedestrians or livestock on the grassland, and calm was gradually restored.Barkol · 2.4km from downtown

Barkol has long been the eastern gateway to Xinjiang. Located on a key transportation route, it has always been a strategically important location. Consequently, an ancient city was built here for defense, leading to the construction of large-scale structures such as ancient city walls, temples, and ancient residential buildings. Today, these structures are very well preserved and are places that many tourists visit when traveling to Barkol. Barkol Ancient City Scenic Area consists of two adjacent cities: Hancheng and Mancheng. Hancheng was named for the Han soldiers and residents who lived there, while Mancheng was primarily inhabited by Manchu Eight Banners soldiers. Today, the city walls are well preserved, and you can overlook the county town from them. However, only one gate tower, Desheng Gate, remains. The gate tower is grand in scale and is a great spot for photos. In addition to the gate towers and city walls, there are other ancient structures here, such as Dizang Temple, Xiangu Temple, and the Barkol ancient residential buildings. You can see Buddhist and Taoist architecture, which is rare in the Xinjiang region. It is a great place to visit to see historical architecture or to pray for blessings.Barkol · 455m from downtown

The Great Silk Road It was incredibly cold today, but the blue sky was beautiful, and I even witnessed a sunset over the Gobi Desert. The Great Silk Road is generally quite nice. Regular cars can only cover half the route (from the East Gate to Hongliutan, a paved road), while off-road vehicles can complete the entire route (East Gate - Hongliutan - North Gate). However, this attraction is a bit inconvenient; it's 400 kilometers east of Dunhuang and 400 kilometers west of Turpan. You need to be determined to drive an extra 800 kilometers just to experience the Great Silk Road.

Barkol Singing Sand Mountain is a sand mountain in the territory of Barkol Kazakh Autonomous County, Xinjiang. In the desert or sand dunes, due to the influence of various climatic and geographical factors, fine sand particles mainly composed of quartz are formed. Due to wind vibration, sand sliding or mutual movement, many sand particles rotate in the airflow, and the holes on the surface cause the "diabolo" effect, which produces a buzzing sound. The Singing Sand Land is mainly desert in western China. These sand dunes are piled up into mountains, so it is also called Singing Sand Mountain.

Starting from Hami, crossing the East Tianshan Mountains, and driving east along National Highway 335 for about an hour, you will arrive at the Colorful Lake. The lake is rich in minerals, and the lake water will present different colors in different weather and light, like a dream, hence the name. There are also a large number of special algae and plants by the lake, which are even more colorful and unforgettable.

A mother with two children highly recommends this place for a family outing! Located just across the street from the Hami Museum, the architecture is unique in China—the interior of the Ninth Hui King's Tomb features an Islamic dome, while the exterior combines a Han Chinese octagonal pavilion with a Mongolian helmet-shaped roof, creating a striking blend of three styles. It's incredibly exotic, and although you can't go inside, the exterior alone is breathtaking! It's a great place for children to learn about the history of the Hui Kings, who submitted to the Qing dynasty during the Kangxi era and helped maintain national unity. I recommend combining this visit with the museum and the Muqam Center; you can see everything in one day without the hassle.

Free to visit. There is no bus in Barkol. It is very hard to walk from the bus station to Deshengmen under the sun. You can climb the tower for free, but you cannot walk on the earthen wall, which is too dangerous. It is better to take pictures in the afternoon. The problem is that Deshengmen is not open. If you want to go outside the city wall to take pictures of the other side, you have to go around a long way to the outside road and then walk along the city wall. Because I was too tired that day, I planned to go again the next day. The next morning, I came back to take pictures of the city wall and the gate, but it was backlit, which was a pity.
