Walk through the ruins of the moat to the top of the mountain, overlooking the surrounding coast. There is a lighthouse nearby, you can get a better view if you climb it up, but it is usually only open in the afternoon. There is also a prison below the castle, which is one of the filming locations of many Indian movies, but it is not open.

Even in high season, there are nowhere near as many tourists as the northern beaches, so it's not overcrowded. For purer silence, head south along the coast to the less populated Patnem Beach. It's important to note that many of the recreational facilities in Palolem Beach only open in November.

The beaches are free and relatively clean, with various bars on the sides. You can go there to see the bikini beauties during the day and drink and watch the sea at the beach bars at night. It's a unique experience.
