Private tours are a great option for first-timers, offering private transportation and a tour guide, plus two days of free time to explore the hotel pool, enjoy the sun, sand, and sea... However, the itinerary at both ends is exhausting, especially the return day. I had to get up at 6 am to pack and check out, then leave for the airport at 7 am to catch my 10 am flight. I had a 6-hour layover in Singapore, but thankfully the duty-free shops there had cheaper cosmetics than in Phuket, so I could browse. I arrived in Beijing after midnight, and getting a taxi at Beijing airport was incredibly difficult; I waited for over an hour, finally getting home close to 4 am. I barely slept a few hours before having to get up for work. Therefore, I recommend resting for a day before returning to work.
