We booked a group tour through Ctrip, which was very convenient. The meeting point was right outside one of the Nagoya Station exits. The guide took attendance and assigned seats. He gave a brief overview of the attractions and distributed a map. I'd heard colleagues talk about Shirakawa-go Gassho Village as being beautiful, especially in winter after the snow. Although we visited on October 7th, the scenery was still stunning. I hadn't expected such a beautiful village to exist deep in the mountains. It wasn't crowded, and we all had a wonderful time strolling through the beautiful village.★

The trip (in early March) to the Japanese Alps was, overall, very nice. Our guide (Yosi? He gave us his nickname) was really friendly, knowledgeable, and communicative. We even stopped at a convenience store so everyone could buy lunch, which we could eat later on the bus. Due to the weather, he changed the order of the activities, and that was a good thing. The view from the lookout point was spectacular. At the top, you also take a short walk (20 minutes) through the snow. That was really nice. Our group disagreed on the other activities. The caves didn't impress me. There wasn't much to say about them either. They were caves with stalactites and stalagmites. That's it. At the end, there's a small shrine for couples, and in winter, there's also a path with a frozen ice wall, which was very nice, but otherwise, rather mediocre. Hida Folk Village is interesting and beautiful to look at.★

What you need: A cell phone with a working SIM card. How to use: At the Takayama Bus Center, line up directly at the gate for Shirakawago. When the staff member walks around to check your ticket, click on the voucher, then click the link to show it. When boarding begins, click “Use” on the screen that appears after clicking the link, then click “Confirm” and board the bus. The line to buy tickets at the bus center is very long, but being able to line up right away is very useful.★

We took it from takayama to kyoto - it is a long day. Bring lunch/ snacks/ drinks from 711 … Shirakawago was absolutely beautiful (try the fluffy shaved ice if you see it!!
